Next up for Camp Doll Diaries Circus Week is McKenna in her Juggling Act! This was a pretty quick and easy play set to put together and remember this is inspiration – use what you have on hand to make it your own!!
McKenna takes her spot in the center of the Big Top. The crowd goes wild as she starts her act.
McKenna’s juggling balls are made out of pom poms that I had on hand, but you could use balls of aluminum foil, yarn, or even clay. For the audience, I looked on Google for an image of a circus audience. I loved this old timey drawing and printed out three copies to hang side by side.
McKenna’s act got more difficult and you could hear the audience gasp as she twisted and turned while juggling – do you think Grace is actually supposed to catch one of the balls on her nose?
I got the idea for McKenna’s skirt from our friend Debra at Kunin felt. She made a whole dress for McKayla using this bubble method (go here to see it and more from Debra coming soon) and I adapted it for McKenna. I used Duck Tape for the waist band and added a few self adhesive gems, too.
Now it’s time for the second part of her act. McKenna is using juggling sticks made from Q-tips that have had one end cut off. I added a thin stripe of Duck Tape to the handles so she could see them better as she tried to catch them.
McKenna finishes with a twirl right into her splits and the crowd roars with applause. Even Grace is ready to take a bow.
I hope you enjoyed today’s play inspiration! I can’t wait to see all your circus creations this week. Email them to me at firstname.lastname@example.org.
