Camp Doll Diaries – Make Souvenir Canadian Snow Globes

Camp Doll Diaries

Camp Doll Diaries Snow Globes

Greetings from Canada and today my Maplelea Dolls and I thought we would share with you our craft for making Souvenir Snow Globes for your dolls. These WATER FREE Snow Globes are a fun and easy craft you can make with items you may already have on hand or items you can pick up easily and inexpensively at your craft and dollar stores.

Snow Globes have been a world traveler’s delight as you can usually find a snow globe of any country you visit year round in most tourist shops. Today I am making a Vancouver Canucks (my local hockey team) Snow Globe as a Vancouver, British Columbia, Canadian Souvenir. You can make yours to reflect your own home town, travels or place you would like your dolls to go.

To create your own No Water Snow globe you will need:

  • A small container from the craft or bead section of your dollar or craft store, mine came in a package of 6 for $1.25
  • Glitter
  • A small object to use inside your container such as an Eraser, Bead, Stickers or Small Toy
  • A Glue Dot for securing non-snuggly fitting items for the inside of your globe.
  • *if using stickers a clear piece of Clear Plastic you would find on the backing of your sticker sheets or on the inside of windowed food boxes such as Pasta
  • Scissors

Step 1- Assemble your supplies. Open your container and find an object you would like to use in your snow globe, make sure it fits snuggly in your container as the round eraser does in the photo above. If you are using something that doesn’t fit as snuggly use a glue dot to secure your object to the lid of your container.

Step 2- Once your item is in, place add some glitter to your container. I used sliver and blue – the colors of the Vancouver Canucks. The glitter is the “Snow” in your “Snow Globe”

Step 3- Cap your container, make sure it is secure and turn it over. Your Snow Globe is now ready to use and enjoy!

If you do not have an eraser to use you can easily use stickers.

Step 1- Assemble your supplies and open your container. Pick your stickers to use and get a clear piece of plastic sheet from either your stickers or the inside of a boxed pasta.

Step 2- Cut your plastic so that it will fit folded in half inside the container

Step 3- Add your stickers on each side of the plastic

Step 4- Place the sticker covered plastic in your container

Step 5- Add glitter

Step 6- Cap your container and turn over and enjoy!

I hope you have fun making your own no water Souvenir Snow Globes for your dolls. Today I used my Maplelea Dolls  Saila, and My Maplelea Friend Doll “Stacy” and borrowed Maplelea Dolls Leonie and Jenna for today’s photos.

Clothing by Maplelea, My Friend Skippy’s Mom and My friend Jean from Jazzy Doll Duds Etsy Shop. Also shown today were some small Canadian Moose toys from the Dollar Store.

This is a great craft, Karen, and one I will be making for sure. Thank you for featuring the Maplelea dolls, also—Saila looks so beautiful in your pictures and your Stacy has a lovely face. Would you mind telling me from wher you purchased Saila’s hat? I checked the Etsy shop you mention, but couldn’t find the hat featured there.

    How cute!

  12. Karen says:

The Lady who made the hat for me is the same as the Etsy Shop listed. She made one special for me at my request, she may have more of the fabric left, she also sells locally and sometimes runs out before she can list in her shop. It is such a great doll hat!

  13. Sophie T says:

Do you fill it up with water or with baby oil?

A few days ago, I opened (ok, I crashed it open!) a snow globe from Las Vegas that was leaking (I wanted to keep the stuff that was inside, such as dices, mini coins and plastic mini play cards, perfect for doll play!), and this is where I found out that the water isn’t water, but oil like baby oil. I guess it is so that it doesn’t spoil. It is messier, though, if you open it or if your container leaks.

  14. Karen says:

Hi Sophie, no I did not use any oil, Only the glitter. The caps seal well but there is no need for liquid in these. Less mess!

  15. These are adorable! I will probably make one or two of these at Christmas time :D

  16. cordelia says:

Thank you, Karen. The hat is just adorable and Saila is a perfect model.
