Camp Doll Diaries- Fun with Geology and a Rock Collection

Our Ivy loves all things science so she spent a lot of time at the Science Stars cabin this week.  For science week the cabin focused on geology.  They learned about the layers of the earth, the rock cycle, and put together a rock collection!

Let’s take a closer look at the cabin and what the campers have been up to!  There is a printable so you can make doll size geology posters and a rock collection for your dolls!  The printable is fun for science week and would be fun for a doll size classroom.

I love the “Science Stars” printable banner that has been available for the week!  Here is the link to print one out if you haven’t yet.  For the bunting style banner use the tutorial here.  To customize it for science week I cut out the words science, stars, and camp from the weekly theme printable and added them to the camp flags.  The camp flag printable is here.

Geology Posters

Supplies to make posters:

Cut out the geology pictures and glue them to pieces of colored paper to make posters.

Rock Collection

Let’s make a doll sized rock collection!

It would be fun to collect tiny doll sized rocks!  You could organize, label and glue them to a piece of paper and finish the sides just like Ivy’s rock collection!  While you get that mini rock collection going you can make this super quick and easy rock collection! :)   It is so easy because it is a printable with the sides added to make it look like the rocks are in a container.

Let’s get started!

Supplies to make a doll size rock collection:

Glue the rock collection image onto a piece of cardboard.

Take a strip of white card stock and bend it around the corners of the image.  An 8 1/2″ long strip was not long enough so I cut a second strip to make up the difference.

Place a small amount of Tacky glue around the outside edge of the cardboard to attach the strips of paper.  Set aside to dry.

Ivy loves having her very own rock collection!  Now whenever she is out on a hike she wants to keep an eye out for different kinds of rocks!

Just in case you are interested, here is a little more about today’s post.

  • Doll-Ivy is an AG Historical Character
  • Outfit-Sweatshirt and backpack are available on the Doll Diaries Etsy Shop.  Jeggings are from My Doll’s Life.
  • Scene-Lamp is a book light from the dollar store.  Bulletin board tutorial is here.  Pinwheels are from JoAnn‘s.  Globe and bench are thrift store finds.  Rocks on display are from our rock collection.

Enjoy a little science this week with your dolls!
