Camp Doll Diaries Horse Week

Anna here!  I love seeing the horses in our local parades all decorated.  My favorite’s are the horses with the colorful and sparkly accessories.  So, that is exactly what I set out to make for our horse this week.  Join me to make some decorations for your horse fit for a grand parade!

We’ll be making a saddle blanket, leg wraps and a neck sash.

Of course it involves bold colors and shine!

Before we get started I need to mention that this project is full of endless possibilities!  I’m going to show you how I decorated the horse accessories but that is just to get you started!  Be creative and have fun decorating with your own personal touch!

Let’s take a look at what we’ll need.

Supplies-

  • felt
  • fabric (or felt)
  • scissors
  • trim (I am using Bling on a Roll.  You could also use ribbon or even strips of felt.)
  • sequins
  • glue (not pictured)

I decided to use this Bling on a Roll for the trim.  My roll is thick so I trimmed off a thin strip for this project.  You may want to cut strips of felt or use ribbon if that is what you have on hand!

Saddle Blanket

Lay out a rectangle piece of felt.  Glue a piece of fabric along the long side of the felt.  Glue the trim all the way around the outside of the felt rectangle.

Time to try it on the horse!

Leg Wraps

Let’s make decorative leg wraps!

We are going to cut a strip of fabric about 32″ long.  To make it quicker to cut such a long strip, fold the fabric.  Then just cut through the fabric about 1/2″ wide.

Starting just above the hooves, wrap the fabric up the leg.  Tie a knot to finish it off.

Neck Sash

Cut 2 strips of felt 2 1/2″ wide.  Glue the 2 pieces together.  Bring the 2 ends together and glue them together to a point.  Add trim around one side.  Glue on sequins to decorate.

The sash goes over the horse’s head.

All ready for the parade!

Time for Saige to head to the parade line-up to join the other riders for a ride down the main street parade!

Hope you will join them with your horse all decorated for the occasion!
