Barbie Dream House Review

Barbie Dream HouseOur five year old got the Barbie Dream House from Santa this year. She didn’t ask for it, but somehow he just knew that this was right up her alley!

It was a little tricky to set up and there were plenty of stickers to add, but it has held up to serious play already.

Let’s start from the top. The top floor/loft is the entertainment room complete with a big screen tv. The wall unit folds down into an extra bed if Barbie has guests. The loft is also detachable and can be used as a take-along playset.

The second floor has the bathroom – including a laundry hamper, sink, bathtub and toilet that makes noise when it flushes. Next to that is the bedroom. There is a canopy over the bed, a vanity, and bean bag chair.

Take the spiral stair case elevator up or down – it works with the turn of a crank. Barbie loves it.

On the first floor the kitchen is equipped with a washer and dryer set that spin, stove top that sizzles, oven that opens, sink, and fully stocked refrigerator. There is plenty of food for Barbie and her friends; like pizza, ice cream, orange juice, popcorn and such. In the living room Barbie and her friends can hang out on the sofa, listen to the radio (yes, it works) and answer the door bell when their friends come to play.

It was so much fun to watch her face as she figured out all the sounds and what things did. Her Barbies have had some great adventures and fun already. I think she played with it for 3 hours straight one morning. Now they have a car, too, so they are going places as well.

If you have a Barbie girl with a good imagination, this is a great value!

I am glad that there are those out there getting the dream house for their kids. I’ve been trying since the end of December to get one. If I could even start the stories of the journey. From talking to a Mattel pr person who wouldn’t budge from telling me they are available (although she couldn’t locate one for me) to literally calling every ToysRUs in my state, I still can’t get one. I thought I had a glimmer of hope when I received an e-mail from Target telling me it was now available. Well, you bet I purchased it online immediately. The next day I got the e-mail confirmation telling me it would arrive the 12-16 of Jan. Then today received an e-mail telling me it wasn’t available and I could cancel my order. When I called, I was informed that it was expected to be available late-February. To top it off, my husband learned from a sympathetic ToysRus rep that there were 24 dream houses in the warehouse in CT, but that they wouldn’t be shipped the entire month of January due to inventory taking place in the stores. Who are the heads of the sales prevention teams at Mattel, Target or ToysRus?? Please if you do find one of these houses, I’d love to know how to get one. And eBay is not the answer because $500 is a ridiculous amount to pay for any toy. Is there anyone else having this same problem??

Wow Ruth! I didn’t realize these were so hard to find. I bought mine off of Amazon the second week of December. Have you tried them?

  3. Ruth says:

Thanks, Char. I sure did, but as you might know, that links you right up to the ToysRus site, which claims that they don’t have any. The companies involved have been so unhelpful. My little one named so many gifts for Christmas, it was hard to tell what she REALLY wanted. Apparently, it was this house and she’s still asking me for it. Dolls are a beautiful thing and she has been taught to appreciate the things she has as we try not to spoil her with gifts. I wouldn’t say at this point she’s crushed, but I think she will be if she never ends up getting one. We told her that it was too big to fit on Santa’s sleigh and that he would have to mail it. :) I don’t know how long that’s going to last, and this isn’t something she’s going to forget about. (As much as I wish she would in this instance.) If you see one available somewhere, please drop me a line. I would be eternally grateful. It has become a part-time job trying to track one down. My husband drove through CT to NYC for a work trip but made stops all along the way in hopes of coming across one. That includes ToysRus in Times Square. I don’t get why Mattel’s official stance is that they are available. Believe me, if they were even semi-reasonably available, I would’ve found one by now. I’ll keep looking and let you know how it goes. Thanks for the comment.
