Famous musician, Harry Connick, Jr’s daughter, Kate Connick released a new song today on iTunes called “A Lot Like Me.” The song was written by her Dad and according to the website, “inspired by Céclie Rey and Marie-Grace Gardner, two new fictional American Girl characters who form a bond of friendship across the boundaries of class and race in 19th Century New Orleans.”
All proceeds from the sale of the song – exclusively on iTunes – will go to support after school activities at the Ellis Marsalis Center for Music in New Orleans which is located in Musicians’ Village in the Upper Ninth Ward. The center has classrooms, rehearsal space, a recording studio, and a state-of-the-art performance hall all created with the ultimate goal of keeping the music community in New Orleans thriving.
Kate Connick is 13 and while she lives in New York and plays lacrosse, ice hockey and basketball, the daughter of music legend Harry Connick, Jr. spends her fair share of time in New Orleans, too.
I just downloaded the song and it’s pretty catchy. I don’t think it will hit the pop charts, but depending on what American Girl decides to do with it in regards to the new Marie-Grace and Céclie collection, it will be a good addition that supports a good cause. I wonder if Kate will be on the American Girl celebration cruise this fall to perform it?
Have you heard the song yet? What do you think? American Girl is definitely working some new angles with this historical release and I can’t wait to see what else they have planned.
