American Girl Fashion Shows

American Girl Fashion ShowsAmerican Girl Fashion Shows are a neat way to raise funds for your non-profit organization and make for a really wonderful afternoon of American Girl fun for girls and their parents. A few years ago my daughter and I attended one put on by a local ballet company and it was a perfect afternoon.

The Special Olympics of New Jersey is hosting an American Girl Fashion Show on October 10 and 11, 2009 at the Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township. Tickets range from $30-$45 a person.

From the flyer:

Peek into the past, and then see what’s new for special occasions, school, sleep and play. You’ll discover how generations of American girls have used clothing to express their style and personality. Come celebrate the sparkle and spirit of American girl style. Enjoy snacks, favors, fashions, a raffle auction and much more! All proceeds to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey.

One of the event’s supporters, Sherie,  sent us photos of her daughter modeling in last year’s show – it gives you a great idea as the what the show is like. The girls model fashions from the historical line and the today doll fashions, too. This year’s shows feature Chrissa and Rebecca as well. The door prizes are usually American Girl dolls, their pets, fashions and other related items. The year we went, my daughter won Licorice the cat.

Call their 800 number and they’ll tell you. Some people started calling once they saw the 70% off sale, which is not indicative of a profitable company.

I just don’t think that the LoF dolls were marketed very well. Sure, they’re in those Christian stores, but not everyone shops at those. I think they should’ve put more effort into their website and mail-order catalogs. Yesterday was a sad day. Kirsten and LoF at the same time.
