American Girl Fashion Shows are a neat way to raise funds for your non-profit organization and make for a really wonderful afternoon of American Girl fun for girls and their parents. A few years ago my daughter and I attended one put on by a local ballet company and it was a perfect afternoon.
The Special Olympics of New Jersey is hosting an American Girl Fashion Show on October 10 and 11, 2009 at the Forsgate Country Club in Monroe Township. Tickets range from $30-$45 a person.
From the flyer:
Peek into the past, and then see what’s new for special occasions, school, sleep and play. You’ll discover how generations of American girls have used clothing to express their style and personality. Come celebrate the sparkle and spirit of American girl style. Enjoy snacks, favors, fashions, a raffle auction and much more! All proceeds to benefit Special Olympics New Jersey.
One of the event’s supporters, Sherie, sent us photos of her daughter modeling in last year’s show – it gives you a great idea as the what the show is like. The girls model fashions from the historical line and the today doll fashions, too. This year’s shows feature Chrissa and Rebecca as well. The door prizes are usually American Girl dolls, their pets, fashions and other related items. The year we went, my daughter won Licorice the cat.

Me neither! For me, weekend starts with pizza for dinner followed by my good old Friday night skate. Always has, always will.
FRRRRRRRRRRRRRIDAAAAAAAAY!!!
No kidding. I have had an awful week (think failing a test) and I am ready to order some books from Amazon and buy wigs/eyes/lashes for the My Twinns I’m giving makeovers.
My box of dolls came today. Thankfully, Nicki is in practically new condition. She has her original curls and everything. Marisol has some glitter on her face and her hair is a little dry and frizzy. The AGT doll has dirt on her face, reaaaaaally floppy legs, and her hair was also dry and frizzy. Right now she’s resting in a pink AG futon bed.
I’m thinking about buying some Downy and baby wipes this weekend to help the dolls out. I would also like to restring a few of my dolls, but it looks so complicated.
I want to restring Kirsten but I’m afraid. Samantha needs her neck strings tightened and I can do that… I think. I’ll clean their “skin” and I want to buy large foam rollers to re-curl Samantha’s hair. Those are the restorations/fixing-ups on my mind right now.
Are you planning to to sell the dolls? If so, which ones?
I plan on selling all three. I already have Nicki, I don’t want Marisol, and I have enough AGT dolls.
Anne, have you tried the Downy dunk? I don’t have any fabric softener; do you think diluted liquid detergent that’s supposed to have softener in it will work?
i might get a molly doll from craiglist.
That’s great, Chrysanthemum. Believe it or not, as much as I’m a bargain hunter, I buy all of my dolls new. That’s doesn’t inlcude the three I bought today, but I’m selling them very soon.
I have not tried the Downy dunk – I’m terrified of getting their hair wet.
I think you should do it with the Downy if you decide to actually do it, to avoid making a major mistake.
I buy my dolls new as well. I like having them new from the year I decided to get them, but that’s just me. I’ll buy outfits from any time. I have some from the ’80′s and some from 2008, and every year in between. That doesn’t matter to me. But good luck with the doll – I hope you get her if you decide you really want her!
Good night!
I’m not particular about outfits either. They don’t age near as easily.
Good night! I am soooo excited for 3:20 tomorrow afternoon. That is when I will get home and a have a weekend!
I don’t really have a weekend. I have 3 games (1 tonite 2 tomorro) and Sunday we leave 4 our class trip 2 Gettysburg and Washington DC. And I haven’t even began packing yet!
Ok, I am off to Atlanta (even though it is flooded) and I will be taking pictures and sending them to Char tomorrow night. Its an 8 hour car ride, so you won’t hear from me any time soon. bye!
How long will you be there, Lena? I hope you have a great time!
One of my friends went to Atlanta this past summer and enjoyed it a lot.
OMG! Kirsten is being archived! There is post at agplaythings.
My friend just called me and I am shocked about it, but excited that we will probalbly get a new historical.
There is no official announcement from AG; I will believe it when it comes from them. Thankfully, there are only 3-4 Kirsten outfits left that I would like.
Lena, Life of Faith is going out of business on September 30. They are having a 70% sale on all of their outfits and books, but pretty much all of the good stuff is gone. I’m quite sad since I never got the opportunity to buy any of it,.
I still want at least Kathleen and the new Millie. Too bad it will be hard to find outfits for them.
I heard about ALOF, but nothing bout Kirsten in my inbox. Thankfully, 1 more outfit and I’m done.
I’m here until Sunday. And if anyone’s wondering what’s in the AG package at the hotels, its a pink fold out bed for dolls and bedding, a cataloge, a magazine, a pamphlet about AG stores, an Ag quiz book, and 2 chocolate cookies with pink M&Ms.
Huh…. someone put up a picture of the letter….. NOOOOO!!!!! Kirsten! Why must you do this Mattel???!
The hotel package varies from place to place. Last year, I stayed at the Dallas Hilton Lincoln Centre. I got the pink fold-out doll bed, Emily’s robe, a girl sized robe (poor quality, torn), candy for me, lollipops for my doll, Texas cowboy hat treats (marshmallows and pringles covered in chocolate … ew), and breakfast for two. Overall, it was a lot of fun.
Well, if there’s a letter about Kirsten … I will order the rest of her outfits tonight. No joke. Thankfully, I’m not broke.
Tomorrow I get the last (winter) outfit I want. The letter’s dated Set 28, so there’s still time before the mad rush.
I also got a letter that will get me a free snack at the bistro.
And the girl sized robe was some think plaid flannel one. It’s not Emily’s girl sized robe.
Thanks for the information, Lani and Lena. I think it is time that Kirsten is put out of her misery. Poor girl. I have high hopes for a new 1800s doll next year.
There is only $84 in Kirsten stuff I have left to buy, excluding her nightgown which I don’t think is worth $24. In comparison, Samantha was $235 and I still didn’t get everything I wanted.
i think i may buy kirsten and a few outfits and meet accessories. i mean i realy want to but idk if i have the money. of course i wish i could have a few years ago i mean i can get a moeny order so its not on my parents credit card but how will i explain whati is in the box when ups delivers it?
A money order is from a bank account.
Hey! I’m back!
Lol! I’d love to be in a fashion show, but, umm… I’m kinda too old. LOL!
The closest thing I could probably do to a fashion show is a pageant, but we can’t afford it right now.. I think I could do well. Maybe. I have no clue.
Correction; I’m too old to be in an American Girl fashion show!
K, I ran out and got the rest of Kirsten’s collection I needed, since I can see the store from my window and its 500 feet away. I’ll get the rest of what I want tomorrow.
The cashier looked shocked when i mentioned the archival and said she hadn’t been told yet.
i want kristen and accessories and wreath, cats, red boots, st. lucia, school, birthday dresses, quilt. i have her rag doll sari
bed is to expensive.
think felicity will be archived next year?
most likely though i wont be able to get it but oh well.
to bad lof is going out of business. so much is already gone.
Molly will likely be next. Th books were published Sam, Kirsten, Molly (I think. I know Sam’s were 1st) and they seem to be going by that.
So… in order of comming out…
Samantha
Kirsten
Molly
Felicity
Addy
Josefina
Kit
Kaya
Julie
Rebecca
want kristen and meet accessories and wreath, cats, red boots, quilt, and sweater gloves hat and dresses: st. lucia, school, birthday, winter,. i have her rag doll sari already. i really like htose dresses.
unlike samantha she dosnt tkae up much room. and its sorta cool she dosnt have a million itmes in her collection. she dosnt even have a best friend doll though.
samantha, kirsten, molly were all relaesed at the same time.
molly has a bucnh of stuff.
and glasses.
I realize that. But Sam’s book were published before the other girls’.
BTW, I haen’t taken any pics yet cause my little trip wasn’t “official”, but from what I saw, the street entrance is to the books on one side and Bitties on the other. The mall entrance is to the historical area, but the JLY certainly take up most of the store.
Wait, Kirsten’s being archived??? NO!!! I need her!!!!!!
are they archivng one old doll a year? i guess it dosnt matter but i really would like tkirstne she’s a pioneer doll. i liked how she was an immigrant and pioneer. and i really like her winter outfit and everything else.
and this is official? i want to buy the lcothes and accessoires first just because there will be a mad rush. is there free shipping? i have thirteen dollar off
I’m going to buy her stuff before the mad rush. I should probably try to buy Emily in the next year if I’m going to at all because it looks like there’s a very good chance Molly will be next. It looks like the dolls are lining up for the chopping block.
its so stupid how they are cutting the histoical line. oh well. i think i have a few things i might be able to sell but i have been wanting to buy her for a long time im just sad i havn’t been able to yet.
maybe they will have a twneties doll. though i’d rather see a later 1800′s doll.
is it true they are retiring most of the histoircals because they have less business?
They aren’t cutting the historical line. It’s the circle of life. One doll has to go for a new one to be released. Samantha left for Rebecca, and Kirsten is leaving for _______. Hopefully a Texas independence or War of 1812 or Lewis and Clark doll
Lena, where can I get my doll’s limbs restrung for cheap?
I really don’t know. You’d have to look around, Lily.
My personal hopre for Kirsten’s replacement: a cowgirl (in Texas, possibly 1830-40′s). I want another horse. Just because I love the Jackson horse mold.
FYI~ I will not be on much today because I have 2 soccer games and then I have to pack for my 8th grade class trip to Gettysburg and Washington DC. And we leave @ 6 am tomorro!!!!!!!! So I won’t b on all next week! And, last night, we had a game and I ran into some1 and got a really big bruise. It still hurts!!!! And I fell down and got my knees all muddy!!!
