UPDATED WITH WINNERS!! Congratulations Julia and Rebekah – please check your inboxes.

Yesterday morning, Megan, Natalie and I headed north to Arlington to attend the American Girl Fashion Show presented by the Junior League of Northern Virginia. If you have never had the pleasure of attending one of these events, visit the Fashion Show page on the AG site and watch for one coming up – they are truly a special way to spend a few hours learning about fashion, friendship and fun through history via the American Girl doll characters and it benefits a non-profit organization near you!

The Junior League of Northern Virginia runs community projects to help prepare children in Northern Virginia prepare for success including Kids in the Kitchen, Kids Can Program, Girls on the Run, School Readiness programs and Leadership Development efforts.

American Girl Fashion Show

Before the show started we had the opportunity to get a sneak peek of the stage, ballroom and go back stage. This was the main stage where the models and their dolls showed off their fashions as the presenters gave us a little background and insight into each look.

The tables in the ballroom were set up with plenty of shine! Each table had a platter of baked goods, strawberry lemonade, water and tea for the guests to enjoy during the show.

Before the show the girls and I went back stage to see all the models and the dolls getting ready. The models were all so cute (we couldn’t photograph any of them) and were giggly, dancing around and even coloring in between costume changes, hair and listening for their instructions. All the costumes were hung on racks with clearly marked tags that matched the instructions hanging on the wall. Very organized all the way around!! The back wall had all the 18″ models lined up in order of their appearance, too. If they had a costume change planned, their second outfit was in a zip loc baggie in the respective box.

American Girl Fashion Show Paper Dolls

Each of the girls who attended got this really neat paperdoll set. It looks like a little tote, but when you open it, it turns into a runway with some nice quality paper dolls and fashions for them to wear. When you are done, just fold it back up and it is ready for another day. Any guesses as to whose paper doll set this is? Yep, Megan’s! Ever since she picked Rebecca to sit with her at dinner at American Girl Place NY she has decided Rebecca is her favorite. She had her paper dolls open immediately and loved the set – it just shows, you are never too old for dolls!!! You could tell all the girls loved these – they were all playing with them before and during the show.

Doll Diaries guest Grace

A few weeks ago, Doll Diaries hosted a giveaway for tickets to the event and our first prize winner could not attend. The runner up was Jana and her daughter Kate. They came to the same showing as we did and sat with us at our table. It was so much fun to meet and spend time with two of our fans! We took a special gift bag for Kate and her doll Grace that included a Camp Doll Diaries outfit (lucky girl – she got the very first one!), some Sophia’s doll sized shopping bags and a set of cupcakes and petit fours for dolls also from Sophia’s. They took some photos when they got home so I will share those with you later.

American Girl Fashion Show Souvenir Outfit

There was a marketplace set up where they were selling the American Girl Fashion Show exclusive outfits, hair accessories, t-shirts for dolls and other goodies. This is the outfit for this year – a top, skirt, hat and shoes for $50. Honestly, I like the previous version better as an outfit, but each of these pieces are cute on their own.

American Girl Fashion Show Raffle

In addition to the show, there were raffles and door prizes. Steps High and Kaya were one of the raffles that were given out at the end of the weekend. They also gave away Caroline, Isabelle, a MyAG, Bitty Baby, Bitty Twins and some accessories.

As for the actual show, they started out by featuring the current historical characters in their meet outfits – talking about the purpose for their fashions, life in the time frame the girls grew up in and some interesting trivia facts, too. Next came sleepwear – for both the historical characters as well as Isabelle, MyAG and Bitties. The models all came out at the end of the segment and had a “sleepover” on stage while teaching the audience how to disco led by “Julie.” Isabelle’s segment was next and they introduced her story and showed off her fashions. The audience participation segment was learning some basic dance moves from the models.

The casual wear segment came next followed by the historical characters and modern girls showing off their special occasion wear. Finally, the audience joined the cast in a song called “I Like Your Style.”

American Girl Fashion Show

It was kind of fun to see Doll Diaries included in the list of sponsors who helped make the show a success! We hope we can be even more involved next year!! Thanks to the JLNV staff for making us feel so welcome and for giving us two extra paper doll sets and hair accessory sets to giveaway to our readers, too!

American Girl Fashion Show Souvenirs

When we got home, Gwen offered to model the American Girl Fashion Show outfit and to help us get the giveaway sets ready for you. You can see the paper doll set looks like a tote.
