American Girl dolls will be featured July 26 on QVC. It will be part of their Christmas in July feature. Right now it is not known which dolls will be sold or what kind of discount will be in place. I may just have to watch it Sunday morning to see for myself.
If you visit the QVC site, you can see the promo video that features Chrissa, Elizabeth, Bitty Twins and two horses (Felicity & Elizabeth’s). The dolls will air from midnight to 1 a.m. and again from 10-11 am on Sunday.
I don’t like having critters in my house except for my dog. Oh, I forgot! We have about 10 wasp nests outside my front door. They like to live in our fan palms too.
We have carpenter bee nests all around the house, and, although they never harm us, it is annoying to sit on the porch or deck with them flying past you. We used to have wasp nests in a cheap lamppost that was here when we bought our house in 1997. We had it removed a little while ago, because of the wasps and because of the fact that it never worked in all the years we have been here.
There is a reservation in two surrounding towns, and there have been deer on our block two times that I can remember. We aren’t that close to the reservation, though – those who live closer frequently have deer and turkeys on their property.
Lena, do you get a lot of mosquitoes where you live? My aunt lives in FL, relatively close to the Disney park but I am not sure exactly where she lives. We may go down to visit her next summer. We have never been over her house. She comes up here, as her son and mom both live within an hour of where we do.
My old babysitter, who grew up in Trinidad, once found a tarantella in her house! She was cooking pasta and the tarantella was on the ceiling directly over the pot. When the pot of water was boiling, she took the pole end of a broom and whacked it so that it fell into the pot, died, and shriveled up. I don’t know if I could have been brave enough to do that, but she says that people there are just used to encountering things like that on a semi-daily basis. She often saw scorpions and millipedes so big that you couldn’t kill them by stepping on them!
I saw a scorpion in my grandparents’ house one time. Those giant and/or deadly bugs scare me.
It just got really, really dark here. It has been cloudy all day, but I think we are in for another big storm, like the one we had earlier this week. I like rain if it is a big storm. It it is just a little rain, or a really gray day, I feel depressed. The wind is blowing pretty hard, so I think it is going to pour any minute. My area isn’t a really rainy one, but this year has been an exception. But I think the weather is strange everywhere. I was told that in London, it has been clear and sunny! I wonder what’s up.
The only pet we have right now is a little parakeet with a big personality. I would like to also have a greyhound and a rabbit, but we may get a rabbit this fall! My mom has been thinking about it for years now, and it is something we all really want. A greyhound is out of the question, for now at least. In the past, I (we) have had another parakeet, fighter fish, goldfish, zebra fish, guppies, and two hamsters, but not all at the same time. We also had a dog, but he was put down on Valentine’s Day 1995, when I was not even eight months old.
The rain has started.
My brother has a real dead scorpion in a frame hanging up in his room. A family friend bought it at a store when she was in Mexico, I believe. That thing is huge!
I finished cleaning my closet yesterday! I haven’t seen the floor in years!
It rained a few minutes ago at my house. I like the rain.
I need to get started cleaning my room and closet. Ugh. If I don’t, I won’t be able to open my Julie and Rebecca dolls on my birthday next week.
Does anyone have a house number that relates to something in your life? My house number is 25, and my birthday is June 25.
Yeah, I have mostquitos. But i live in an exclusive neighborhood, and they spray stuff. I’d rather they not, I always get sick after I inhale that stuff.
Tarantullas aren’t dangerous. They’re just hairy.
I live next to a conservation are. There;s a small lake behind my house, then the swamp starts. I always see wild animals. There’s even baby gators in the lake (Aaryana, haven’t taken the pictures of them yet).
It took me all day to clean. Then I had to vacuum and wipe excess dust up with a wet washcloth. I was so tired by the end! And I still have to finish packing, get some new songs on my mp3, finish presents for my aunt and uncle, and do a couple loads of laundry today. I leave tomorrow and I am so excited! I won’t be on all weekend, because we will be in a hotel and I doubt I’ll be on the computer, but I am spending the following 4 days at my uncle and aunt’s house and I will probably use their computer to check/send emails and post on DD’S.
That’s true, about tarantellas. I forgot. I once took an exotic pets summer camp class and we got to hold tarantulas, all sorts of snakes, chinchillas, ferrets…the list goes on and on. It was fun for a younger kid and I would like to hold those animals again! At one point, I really wanted a chinchilla. And then my mom found out that they live 20 years or something like that and that they need really, really big cages. She said no, obviously.
By “exotic pets,” they meant animals that we usually don’t come in contact with on a daily basis.
Like lizards, iguanas, that sort of thing, too.
I come in contact with lizard daily.
I went to camp as a school trip, we also got to hold exotic pets. I did not touch the sankes.
Not here! A salamander is considered odd to find where I live!
I don’t mind snakes. They feel so silky and cool when I hold them. But I would not want to keep one as a pet, especially a big one!
I said animals that are “big and/or deadly” . . . I know tarantulas aren’t dangerous. My science teacher a few years back kept one as a pet in her classroom.
I touched a snake before . . . I forget why. They feel very cool and have an interesting texture.
I wonder why we haven’t been talking about dolls for the last several dozen posts? 😉
I hate snakes.
Haha… well, I do live on a swamp… and I have cats who bring in said lizards….
I know. This is a doll site, after all!
No doll news for me. Except that I am going to be separated from them for over three weeks! They will be at home while I am out having adventures. I am leaving on the first and coming back on the 23rd, so a little (a day) over three weeks). I am sad about that, but it is in the best interest of the dolls. After all, they could easily get damaged, lost, or stolen. But I’d rather part with them for a short while then have that happen to any of them.
I don’t ever really mind parting with my dolls. I hardly even ever touch them. They’re good eye candy, especially when grubby little six year-olds don’t make them look like wild-eyed witches.
I change their clothes often, but mostly they nust pose.
Really, it has been too long since we’ve had upcoming doll news. Shouldn’t more stuff be released in September? Maybe it’s late August … I don’t know. I’m just ready for Julie and Rebecca to get their new outfits. I guess it would help if I opened my Julie and Rebecca first.
I play with mine, but I keep them in good condition.
But I agree – too many little kids get the dolls and don’t know how to treat them. Myself included. I was 11 or 12 (old, I know) when I cut Samantha’s hair between an inch and an inch and a half. Not that much, but I regret it. I did it partially because her ends were getting dry and frizzy and I didn’t know what else to do, and partially because I didn’t care about her as much as I should have.
I don’t change my dolls often. They mostly wear their meet outfits.
Ya, my dolls r in real good condition. (not meaning 2 brag!)
most of mine are in near mint condiotion, with the exeption of Kit. When I was 8, i didn’t know I couldn’t use my own brush on her, but I got most of the frizz out with braid spray.
Ok, this is really funny!! watch it all the way through and u’ll see wat I mean!! (Michael Landon’s laugh is hysterical!!!!!)
When I was 6, my doll’s hair got frizzy so I gave it a good chopping. Shoulder length with bang trim. Bad idea. I got Molly a few years later and she’s in decent shape. The rest of my dolls look like they’re fresh out of the box.
AG has good reason for suggesting that their products are for ages 8 and up. Little kids will ruin a doll even if they think they’re not! For under that age, I would suggest sticking with Barbies and Our Generation dolls.
Or Bittie Babies…. or I guess the Twinns, but you can still ruin their hair…
But definatly, buy a child a cheap doll, because she will proibably ruin it.
Yeah, I forgot Bitty Babies and Bitty Twins. I don’t care for them, so I generally forget about them in the whole scheme of things. Baby dolls, in general, are great for little kids. When parents think it’s time for an AG, it should be when the kid has shown that she treats her dolls well.
I like bitty clothes for 18 inchers. They look really cute on them.
I am going to clean my doll’s “skin,” finish fixing their hair and get their limbs tightened. Then, they will be in really good condition, but still played with. I love playing with them. I can’t play with my antique dolls, obviously, and I only have two dolls that aren’t AG’s, so it makes sense for me to play with them. I’d play with any doll I can, but I’m not going to go spend more money on cheaper dolls to play with. I play with the AG’s gently.
Do you know of any place/person that/who will re-string my dolls without replacing the limbs? The AG hospital is not an option for me.
I am still puzzled as to why I cut Sam’s hair in the first place. I have always treated my things pretty well, and I was old enough for the doll by the time I got her (I was 11). I guess she isn’t really “destroyed” but I regret what I did every day. It isn’t so noticeable when her hair is curled/wavy but it is when it is straight. Does an inch to an inch and a half seem like a lot of hair to you (on Sam)? I know that the hair is cut, but should I worry about it a lot if you don’t notice it? (If I were to sell her, I would inform the buyer that she does have a little length taken off, of course).
Sorry for all the talk about Sam’s hair – but it is something that bothers me every day.
You might try the AAA Doll Hospital. Just google “doll hospital” and it will be the first result.
1.5 inches isn’t too bad. Sure, it’s slightly noticeable, but I wouldn’t worry a whole lot about her. If it’s bugging you enough, you could just send her into the doll hosptial and end your troubles there. I sent my first AG dolls to the hospital last year. I had reservations about doing it since they wouldn’t be the “same” dolls anymore, but when it comes to the point that a doll isn’t even displayable, it’s time to just send them in. Of course, your Samantha probably looks great and the slightly shorter hair doesn’t detract from her beauty. As long as you didn’t give her a bob haircut, you’re probably okay.
AAA shows 4th for me…
I know some people that will restring privately.
I was about to suggest you check out the Just Magic article on restringing, but it looks a little too complicated unless you’re doing it for a bunch of dolls.
For me, AAA shows 1st and 2nd. They’re probably one of the best in the country. The owner is a chemical engineer and they do a lot of high-profile work. It’s safe to say that your dolls are in good hands there 🙂 I considered sending my AG dolls there last year, but ultimately decided to send them to AG since they were so damaged.
I’d rather send them to private collectors for a restringing. I know a bunch.
I bet it’s also a bit cheaper to send them to a collector to have the job done. High profile places tend to charge high prices.
I watched it. it was ok.
I saw it. It was funny when that lady said Chrissa was Jewish and the ladies are like, “She’s not Jewish”
