New American Girl Doll School Desk Set

When the new items came out, my daughter and I immediately fell in love with the school desk set. Partially because she is forever playing school with her dolls, and because it seems to be a good size display piece. The box came today – it had the school desk set and the beackpack set in it.

American Girl School Desk

The desk is plastic, but it is a sturdy plastic that is not too big or too small.

Marisol and the American Girl School Desk Set

Marisol offered to be our model. She fits comfrotably in the desk which has a shelf underneath to hold her books. The desk comes with a readable math book, folder with worksheets, and a pencil case. The backpack has a water bottle, a planner, Homework Smarts book, library card, a three ring binder and is just perfect for the dolls!

The backpack and school set

I think these two items are great values – especially from the play standpoint. What do you think? Cute?

Sooo adorable! And it would be even awesome with school outfit, and school lunch!

I hope you show as inside a math book,too,b/c I know how it looks like inside those kind of mathbooks! And I wonder if it looks like real bigger-sized math books!(probably it will. But I can’t just look at them same time so I can’t check! And I wouldn’t buy math textbook anyways….Anyone knows answer to this?)

  14. Lena on July 7th, 2009 9:52 pm

Char, can Marisol sit normal in the desk? I mean, actually bent at the waist? I’m thining about getting it cheeply on eBay in about a year (then repainting it to be more like real desks), but I won’t if dolls can’t sit properly.

  15. AG&FAN on July 7th, 2009 10:25 pm

Okay,I got good reasons for why Samantha and Nellie were retired:

*They live like, only 10 years before Rebecca.
*They have movie(the first ones to have a movie,in fact).
*They were first among the 3 original characters.
    *They have large enough collection.
    *Samantha has a best friend.

And AG would’ve retired Molly if the timeline was 1924 for Rebecca.
They wouldn’t retire Kit because her movie was just released. Next character is Molly, who has a best friend, one of the original characters, large collection…etc

  16. Sara on July 7th, 2009 11:12 pm

YAY!!!! My power is back!!!!!! It’s been out for 3 whole hrs!!!

  17. Char on July 8th, 2009 7:14 am

Lena – yes the dolls can sit up nicely in the desk – I was in a bit of a hurry and didn’t really do a good job posing her.

  18. Lena on July 8th, 2009 7:25 am

Its Ok, I was just wondering, because on AG they show a doll sitting in the desk the same way, and i was worried that they couldn’t sit any other way. That’s a releif, lol. I think I’ll get one of the old blue and white desks and two of these.

AG&FAN, the fact that Rebecca lies 10 years after Sam is not important. Look at Kit & Molly, Kirsten & Addy, Kaya & Lissie. All ten years apart. I thin its more that both girls live in NY, and eventually, both live on Manhattan (Sam’s uncle lives on Gramercy Square).

  19. Lena on July 8th, 2009 7:35 am

    Hey, my K’s fixed! Woohoo!

  20. Chloe on July 8th, 2009 7:50 am

That is SO cute! I’m gonna ask my grandma if she will get it for my cousin and I because we play school with our AG dolls all the time and I think my grandma would buy it for us. Don’t forget to check out my blog by clicking my name!

  21. Sarah on July 8th, 2009 9:16 am

    cute totally!!!!!!

  22. Aaryana on July 8th, 2009 10:57 am

Very cute! I love the desk! I also have the backpack on my want list, but I want to get the rest of Chrissa’s stuff first before it is gone.

  23. Anne on July 8th, 2009 12:40 pm

I agree with you on the 10-year thing, Lena.

  24. priscilla on July 8th, 2009 3:11 pm

alli,i think the desk set is kind of cute, but it’s not really my favorite.i have julie,elizabeth,jess,rebecca,2 jlys named eliza may and tashianna, josefina,
    and 2 bitty twins.

  25. Mims on July 8th, 2009 3:12 pm

    Thirdsy,
It’s so expensive! $42 just for a desk, books, pencil set and back pack. Whew! I like it, but to expensive for my budget.

  26. katherine on July 8th, 2009 5:16 pm

Aaryana i totally agree with you i need to buy the rest of chrissa’s stuff before i get anything else. but i love all the new stuff!

  27. Lilly Hazel on July 8th, 2009 6:12 pm

    sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo cute! : D

  28. Gracie on July 8th, 2009 9:08 pm

I also agree with Lena and the manhattan thing. Char I want to email you some of my doll photos but I don’t know how to get it on the email.

  29. Lena on July 8th, 2009 9:24 pm

Gracie, save the pictures onto your computer. Then on the email itself, there should be a button that says “attach files”. Click that, and it will take you to a screen that lets you choose what files you want to send. Make sure the files you want attatch, then type your email and send them.

  30. Taelyn on July 8th, 2009 9:41 pm

    What a cutie!

I just straightened a friend’s doll’s hair! it looks really good! She was too nervous to do it herself lol
I tried to give her a blue streak w/ food coloring but it didnt work because her hair is too dark

  31. Taelyn on July 8th, 2009 9:42 pm

I wish our school desks looked like those!

  32. Erica on July 8th, 2009 11:11 pm

32nd! I love it all. Those are two items I will consider for Christmas. Oh and also if your daughter loves to play school they just came out with a Doll School book its sorta like the Doll Crafts book. Im so getting the backpack and Doll School book. I like the desk but my mom told me the only furntiture I’ll ever get for my dolls are a bunk bed and table. So i’ll probally just use the table. Sigh.

  33. Erica on July 8th, 2009 11:13 pm

Oh dont ever straighten ur doll’s hair. My friend tried it to hers once. The hair came out and then she gave it a hair cut. Poor Lizzie!

  34. Lena on July 9th, 2009 7:05 am

Mims, what do you mean? This is cheap, especially by AG standards.

  35. Gracie on July 9th, 2009 10:46 am

    Thanks Lena!

  36. Lena on July 9th, 2009 10:57 am

    You’re welcom.

I wish Lily would have explained it though, she explains it much better than me. My explanation was a little confusing, so sorry about that.

  37. Plush Queen on July 9th, 2009 12:11 pm

Char, in the new magazine, it shows a wonderful- looking craft book called “Doll School”. If your daughters play a lot of doll school in their free time, this looks interesting and fun.

  38. Lena on July 9th, 2009 12:29 pm

I bought Doll School yesterday. Its really cool, and useful for a dolly schoolroom. That’s why I want desks, so I can make the a room.

  39. Sara on July 9th, 2009 1:39 pm

    Is Doll School available now?

  40. Lena on July 9th, 2009 1:43 pm

Yes. It was at Micheals yesterday.

  41. Chloe on July 9th, 2009 2:06 pm

Guys PLEASE be sure to check out my blog!

  42. Chloe on July 9th, 2009 2:11 pm

I saw Doll School in the catalogue. It’s weird, because it’s not on the website. I want to get Doll School, the School Desk Set and the Backpack Set.

  43. Lena on July 9th, 2009 2:20 pm

I want the desk (but I will likley repaint), the old school table and chairs, and I’m thinking of getting lunches.

  44. ag doll lover on July 9th, 2009 2:37 pm

so cute!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! im getting the backpack, lunchbox, and the desk!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. sunbeemz on July 9th, 2009 5:09 pm

    so very cute!

  46. AG&FAN on July 9th, 2009 6:09 pm

    I got AG catalogue today!
It’s sort of unfair that Kit got 2 more pages of her own…although she did have Ruthie.
Those 2 pages could have been used for Kirsten or Kaya.
Another reason that Kaya would retire, and Kirsten? She might but I don’t want her to.
    So here’s dolls on my list now;
(NOT by my favorite order. Kit is getting good to me now…)
    1.Julie
    2.Elizabeth
    3.Kit

  47. Lena on July 9th, 2009 6:24 pm

Fourgotte Four likely won’t archive soon. Besides, they often leave them out of catalogs, its nothing new.

  48. AG&FAN on July 9th, 2009 6:32 pm

One thing-do you know how to cancel the catalog thing?

  49. AG&FAN on July 9th, 2009 6:34 pm

But likely,Kaya might be next one to retire;,but I do predict it will be Felicity or Elizabeth.

Haha for me,I thought stable set was retired because…it wasn’t in like, front of AG site.

  50. Holly on July 9th, 2009 6:37 pm

yay!!! im ordering felicity friday!!! its really cool. shes the closest 1 that looks like me. (besides the eyes)

  51. Sarah on July 9th, 2009 7:23 pm

Chloe- i check out your blog its really good!!!!!! that desk is soooooooooooo cute i want it and other stuff but i really want chrissa stuff too before it goes away i agree with all of you guys!!!!!
Char-does your daughter have nicki or wut dolls does she have?
    who else has nicki!!!!!!

  52. Aaryana on July 9th, 2009 7:40 pm

What is “Doll School”? I assume it’s a craft book, but what kind of crafts are in it? Thanks!

  53. Lena on July 9th, 2009 8:00 pm

Doll School has school related crafts in it.

Kaya won’t archive next, as she represents America pe-colonization.

  54. Holly on July 9th, 2009 8:03 pm

    sarah, i have nicki

  55. AG&FAN on July 9th, 2009 10:44 pm

who should i get, julie or elizabeth? please, please comment right now…b/c i’m getting one now! and i just gave up on kit b/c i don’t really want to put 3 dolls on my favorites. so julie or elizabeth?

  56. AG&FAN on July 9th, 2009 10:45 pm

or if there’s no comment popping up,i should decide for myself by doing a little research…

  57. AG&FAN on July 9th, 2009 10:59 pm

i’m really into julie because she is funky, and there is rumor(it is probably true, though)that julie’s hair is so silky. and i want more historical doll too,and one that’s gorgeous, and that’s elizabeth. i have to admit i might be more into julie right now…

  58. Georgia on July 10th, 2009 2:32 am

    Julie! get julie

  59. alexis on July 10th, 2009 6:40 am

    Oh that is sooooo cute!

  60. Holly on July 10th, 2009 6:44 am

i have ivy and her hair is really soft and silky, so i persume julie’s is too.

ive seen julie in person 1ce at Atlanta B&B. her face is adorable!!!!

several reveiwers have said her hair sheds, but not all it may depend on the different dolls. ivy hair very seldom sheds, so i would think julie’s didnt either.

  61. Lena on July 10th, 2009 6:59 am

I’ve heard Julie sheds too. Meh, I don’t like either, but I think go for Julie.

But I’m biased in that “Elizabeth” is not the real Elizabeth.

  62. Holly on July 10th, 2009 7:25 am

im getting felicity!!! im really excited!!!!!

  63. Bookworm on July 10th, 2009 7:26 am

    Get Julie!

  64. Gracie on July 10th, 2009 9:20 am

Holly, Felicity’s hair tangles really easily but otherwise she is awsome.

  65. Chloe on July 10th, 2009 9:30 am

I’ve never had any problem with Felicity, Elizabeth or Julie’s hair. Jess and my JLY’s hair is easy too. I have Nicki and she is a nice doll but her hair was hard to keep up at first. Just get curlers and a hair pick; it should be fine.

  66. Chloe on July 10th, 2009 9:35 am

I don’t know which doll I should get for Christmas. I like Rebecca because she is new and I like her collection. I like Kit because she is like me and I like her collection. I also was interested in buying Kit a few years ago but then didn’t and bought something else. Which girl? I’m having a hard time!

  67. Bookworm on July 10th, 2009 9:50 am

Chloe, there is still a long time ’till Christmas, so you have a while to think about it.

  68. Lena on July 10th, 2009 10:06 am

You really don’t need a hair pick for Rebecca/Nicki curls, or hair curlers. I finger bush Helena’s hair, and twist it around my fingers to curl it.

  69. Holly on July 10th, 2009 10:18 am

thanks gracie!! that shouldnt b a problem w/ me. i take really good care of my dolls, so i shouldnt have 2 worry.

  70. Steph on July 10th, 2009 10:26 am

I have four dolls… Felicity, Elizabeth, Addy, and Samantha. I’ve had no problems with Felicity, Elizabeth, and Samantha’s hair, but Addy’s is a PAAAAAIN! I got her at a thrift store, and somebody cut her hair. It’s even, but so hard to style! Textured hair + cut hair = difficult to work with!!! The only styles that seem to work are a rolled bun or a french twist… I need to experiment more though, and see if anything else will work!

  71. Gracie on July 10th, 2009 10:55 am

Okay! Holly try to keep it in the ponytail.

  72. Lena on July 10th, 2009 11:25 am

Why? My neighbor has Lissie and lets her hair down all the time. As long as you know how to keep it looking nice, its really not a problem.

  73. Holly on July 10th, 2009 11:32 am

i keep kirsten’s hair down. its nice, silky, and not frizzy. so im sure lissie shouldnt be any trouble

  74. Lena on July 10th, 2009 11:44 am

I keep Kirsten’s hair down too. Its really no problem for me, because I know how to take care of it.

  75. Gracie on July 10th, 2009 11:53 am

My Felicity doll is old so that’s might be why I have issues with her hair.

  76. Holly on July 10th, 2009 12:02 pm

    same here lena.

    that must b y gracie.

  77. Sara on July 10th, 2009 12:03 pm

FYI~ I will be gone till Sun 4 a family reunion and my grandpa doesn’t have a computer.

BTW~ has any1 seen Highway To Heaven?

  78. Gracie on July 10th, 2009 12:07 pm

    What does BTW mean?

  79. Sara on July 10th, 2009 12:09 pm

    By The Way

  80. Lena on July 10th, 2009 12:15 pm

Gracie I suggest you buy some braid-spray and use it on Lissie’s hair. My Kit had very bad hair (because I used my own brush when I was younger) and it worked wonders on her. Its like she has a new wig almost.

  81. Sara on July 10th, 2009 12:27 pm

    Leaving! Bye!

  82. Anne on July 10th, 2009 12:33 pm

Lena, when did you get Kirsten?

Holly, I got my Felicity on June 25. You will love her! I have kept her hair in the ponytail, but I always do that with my new dolls until they are at least a year old. I don’t know why I do that. Maybe because I am worried about taking the doll’s hair out of the meet style too quickly…I really don’t know, because I can re-create the meet hairstyles of my other three girls almost perfectly.

  83. Holly on July 10th, 2009 12:35 pm

    thanks anne.

  84. Lena on July 10th, 2009 12:46 pm

I got Kirsten in August 2008.

  85. alexis on July 10th, 2009 12:58 pm

  88. Lena on July 10th, 2009 3:46 pm

    “Only 5 dolls”

That makes me laugh. I have 5 AGs too, but i only really pay much attention to two.

    I have
    Sonali
    Samantha
    Kirsten
    Zoey
    Helena

  89. Aaryana on July 10th, 2009 5:57 pm

    Kirsten
    Felicity
    Josefina

    Lindsey (GOTY)
    Mia
    Nellie
    Chrissa

    On the wish list:

    Gwen and Sonali
    Kaya
    Julie or Elizabeth

  90. pioneerfan04 on July 10th, 2009 5:57 pm

i dont kno which 3rd doll 2 get at ag b&b. historical or goty?

  91. Lilly Hazel on July 10th, 2009 6:44 pm

i guess everyones saying witch AG dolls they have………
right now i have 21 AG dolls.

  92. Lena on July 10th, 2009 6:52 pm

I have ten dolls all together, but only 5 AG. And I’ll be selling Sonali in 2010.

On my wishlist list is Ivy, I’ll get her for my birthday. My mom agreed that we can go to Atlanta for it, and eat at the Bistro there.

  93. AG&FAN on July 10th, 2009 6:57 pm

U R so lucky! I only have 1 doll now(by next week,2. And maybe even three-if I am going to be that lucky next month!)

And oops, sorry about the getting Julie or Elizabeth thing,b/c I’m getting Beckie. And does anyone know if Beckie’s hair is silky and her skin is light? I want to see about that before buying one!

  94. AG&FAN on July 10th, 2009 7:09 pm

And it’s really bad that I am getting Beckie by next Friday!. B/c I am not going to do the thing that makes it come quickly, since it’s expensive compared to other companies(I am NOT saying about buying dolls from other companies such as Amazon,b/c they are really, too expensive, since they cost like 200 dollars without an accessories. I mean about one that does free shipping for anything.).

And no free shipping code yet, right?

  95. AG&FAN on July 10th, 2009 7:11 pm

Aaryana, get Julie or Sonali when you purchase another AG doll. Actually, get Sonali first b/c she’s going to retire next year..

  96. Lily on July 10th, 2009 7:45 pm

I bought Rebecca! In person, she was great and I loved her movie outfit. She was more appealing than Emily. Also, Molly and Emily’s swimsuits are kind of pale looking; I wasn’t a huge fan of them. It felt great to be spontaneous and buy Rebecca!

I also got Julie and her swimsuit. I love that hair and the swimsuit was so bright and pretty. The last thing I got was Kirsten’s b-day outfit. This year it seemed prettier than last, for some reason.

  97. Georgia on July 10th, 2009 7:50 pm

My mum ordered Beckie for me and surprised me with her. She is just beautiful. Beckie’s hair is kinda like Kit’s, but curly and alot thinner. Her skin tone is, well i wouldn’t call it light, it’s sorta tan, she is darker than Julie. But I love her!

  98. AG&FAN on July 10th, 2009 7:58 pm

Julie,Rebecca,Chrissa,Ruthie. Do you know what’s related between them by author, illustrator and names? It’s real easy…

  99. Lena on July 10th, 2009 8:02 pm

Rebecca has longer hair that Kit, but it is super curly and very soft. Her skin is more olivy than my other girls who are white.

  100. Georgia on July 10th, 2009 8:12 pm

I meant that Rebecca’s hair feels alot like Kit’s.

  101. Lena on July 10th, 2009 8:16 pm

Yeah, it kinda does. I have both (they are the only ones I play with), and the hair does feel similar.

  102. Georgia on July 10th, 2009 8:20 pm

I’m going to my Grandma’s for the weekend. Our Winter school holidays just started!

  103. Lena on July 10th, 2009 8:21 pm

Build a snow man for me here in snowless FL!

Lucky. My grandmas live….. 900 miles away? In Poland.

  104. Aaryana on July 10th, 2009 10:07 pm

Build a snowman for me too. Right now it’s 90 degrees (F) and 100% humidity. Have fun on your winter break, Georgia!

  105. Aaryana on July 10th, 2009 10:10 pm

Oh, and to answer A&GFan, my mom asked me tonight what I want for my birthday. It’s in October, but she shops early. I told her Sonali. My grandma is either going to get me Gwen or Julie. I can’t decide if I want Gwen though because she looks just like my JLY doll. Does anyone have Gwen? Is her hair as blonde as the JLY doll?

  106. AG&FAN on July 10th, 2009 11:51 pm

    I will tell the answers now;

    Ruthie+Chrissa=Rebecca
    (Julie’s Illustrator)Robert Gay+(Rebecca’s illustrator)Robert Gay.

  107. AG&FAN on July 10th, 2009 11:53 pm

And I don’t have Kit,so I can’t really feel at least part of Rebecca’s hair..

  108. AG&FAN on July 11th, 2009 12:58 am

it is getting late! Not to mention that I am later than most of you;(I mean for the time)

  109. Lena on July 11th, 2009 6:53 am

I had Gwen and 12 for a week (My aunt bought them for my little cousin as twins) and they looked almost alike. Gwen’s hair is a shade lighter, but it isint noticible unless under flourecent light.

  110. Bookworm on July 11th, 2009 10:07 am

I have 7 american girl dolls, but I don’t want to have more than 9.

  111. Lily on July 11th, 2009 11:35 am

I now have 14 American Girl dolls. I bought Julie and Rebecca at the American Girl Place LA and they’re being shipped to my house right now. So I have Felicity, Elizabeth, Kirsten, Samantha, Nellie, Rebecca, Kit, Molly, Julie, Jess, Nicki, Mia, and two AGT dolls.

  112. AG&FAN on July 11th, 2009 12:22 pm

    I can’t belive shipping takes about 7 to 9 days b/c I just can’t wait to meet Beckie…

  113. AG&FAN on July 11th, 2009 12:31 pm

    List of things AG need;

1.2-in-1 Ice Skating(or figure skating) Outfits for Dolls.
    2.Mini Ivy Doll
3.Julie’s Eagle Rescue Set; including all the eagles, binocular, the feeding stuff, and the tower if possible;it might be made like how treehouse was made.
    4.Rebecca’s Hannuakah Dress
5.Rebecca’s Hannuakah Set(Not to mention that I hate stealing from other characters;like JLY,to refill the blank corners,b/c they need their own unique items.)
    6.Ivy’s and Julie’s Chinese Dolls.
7.RETURN all the Felicity’s retired items if possible.
    8.Kirsten’s beehive thing set.
    9.Kirsten’s dog.

  114. Lena on July 11th, 2009 12:48 pm

I like the fact that Kirsten has cats. Allmost the historicals have dogs.

Ivy HAS a Chinese dress. Its not very accurate, but she has one.

They had a 2in1 skating outfit, I doubt they’d make the eagle rescue set, and wait till fall. That’s when holiday stuff always comes, Beckie will get her Hannukha dress then.

  115. AG&FAN on July 11th, 2009 2:21 pm

    Oh,yes,Ivy does have one,but do you think Ivy should have another one;but wait;
I think they should make Ivy’s gymnastic set. It just popped up in my head. I just can’t wait ’till this fall!

  116. alexis on July 11th, 2009 2:33 pm

I think Ivy needs a gymnastics outfit too! I heard thet by Fall they will possibly have it and its Blue and Green!

  117. alexis on July 11th, 2009 2:35 pm

I was reading what AG&FAN wrote and for the last one Kirsten will NEVER have a dog she has two cats already!!!!

  118. alexis on July 11th, 2009 2:35 pm

P.s. they are getting rid of her soon

  119. alexis on July 11th, 2009 2:36 pm

    :-(

  120. Lena on July 11th, 2009 2:38 pm

Um…. no. You can’t know that Kirsten will archive soon.

Ivy’s gymnastics outfit in the books was red, and I agree, they should make this for her.

  121. Aaryana on July 11th, 2009 2:53 pm

Thanks, Lena! I might still get Gwen. I love her dress, shoes, etc. To buy replacement parts is only about $30 less than the doll itself, so we’ll see. October is a long time away still.

  122. Abby on July 11th, 2009 3:37 pm

Actually Lena, Red and gold. hehe, my school colors.

  123. Lena on July 11th, 2009 3:39 pm

I was just saying the general color. It was red with gold trim. Chinese colors.

  124. AG&FAN on July 11th, 2009 4:16 pm

And PS,Samantha’s archivement was sudden announcement, not that we already know about. And since AG isn’t really planning about new historical character,no characters are in danger. And plus,GOTY dosen’t count because they are always active, which means it will retire, and in addition to it,they make another one. GOTY isn’t really big thing as new historical character; anyway.
But please notice that GOTY whenever can be big one like Mia,and Chrissa. Mia had celebration, and Chrissa has contest, and 2 friends.

  125. AG&FAN on July 11th, 2009 4:18 pm

I agree that Kirsten will probably never have a dog,b/c of the cat,and so will Rebecca. But WAIT,she might have a pigeon kit. Pigeon business was big part of her meet book. But you’ll never know what will appear next day…
    And JLY outfits were suprise,too.

    P.S.They are just my opinion!

  126. AG&FAN on July 11th, 2009 4:24 pm

I don’t know if AG started retiring Sam’s stuff b/4 they turned Sam’s shopping page into one that sells only like 4 or 5 of Sam’s things…

If they did,Felicity/Elizabeth is in danger. But not Julie,b/c AG is saying that they might make her movie, and they have lot to make for her. But there is also a chance that Molly, and Emily will retire, too….Actually, any characters except Kaya,Julie,Rebecca and Kit are in little danger of being retired. NO WAY that they’ll retire Kaya b/c she’s original,Rebecca b/c she just appeared,Kit b/c she just made her movie last yr and Ruthie appeared last yr,and finally,Julie b/c she appeared just like 2 yrs ago.

And does anyone know about when Julie appeared;-spring,summer,autumn or winter of 2007?

  127. Lena on July 11th, 2009 4:34 pm

There are in fact historicals in production right now. Rebecca has been worked on for at least 10 years.

Julie was introduced Spetember 10, 2007.

An Julie & Rebecca aren’t in danger because they are too new, Kaya, Fina, and Addy because they represent different races, and Kit is still newish. The most in danger are Kirsten, Molly, and Lissie.

  128. Chloe on July 11th, 2009 4:44 pm

Check out my blog! There is a new poll! I think the most that are in danger of retirement are Kirsten, Molly and Felicity, like Lena said.

  129. sunbeemz on July 11th, 2009 7:07 pm

    Is anybody on?

  130. Lena on July 11th, 2009 7:11 pm

    I am on.

  131. Erica on July 11th, 2009 7:54 pm

I think they should discontinue the Girls of the Years and have one girl thats modern that could be around all the time instead be around a year then another one comes. They should also focus more on the historical dolls. They shouldn’t retire any and just add more to the collection. No one wants to see the origanal go and the new come. Any one agree?

  132. sunbeemz on July 11th, 2009 8:16 pm

American girl was a little dumb for making the exact same dolls but different outfits like Felicity and that Jly. They have some different features like the nose eyes and lips. I love how the african-american ones are different other than then the skin color I should know because I am African -american. I agree with you Erica.

  133. Lena on July 11th, 2009 8:32 pm

There is currently no JLY/AGT that looks like Lisse – and there never was. Gwen and 12 look very much alike though.

And they have the same mold. AG only has 7 molds
Original (like Felicity, Kirsten, Sam, Kit, Molly, and most JLYs)
    Addy (and all African girls)
    Josefina
#4 (#4is the only one with it)
    Jess
    Kaya
    Sonali

  134. Sitara on July 11th, 2009 8:43 pm

Erica, the reason that they have limited edition modern dolls is because what’s modern changes. For example, say AG made a modern girl, “Louisa” (random name) in 1995. Louisa’s stories wouldn’t feature cell phones, surfing the Internet, iPods, or her own computer. Girls today would wonder why she didn’t have any of these things. And if they kept adding stories for her, she’d be in her twenties by now, and an American Woman, not an American Girl! (This is also totally disregarding the question of changing fashions). With the Girls of the Year, AG can keep up with new inventions and new trends. I hope that helped! =)

    Anyway, on-topic:
Thanks so much for the review of the desk! I will be getting 2 of these, maybe more later. I’d like to have at least four for my doll classroom, and Doll School. I already have the current backpack set, it’s great–and I have the two backpack sets before it.

What are the subjects on the HW assignments? I know there’s an Art one…what else?

  135. sunbeemz on July 11th, 2009 8:43 pm

    yup!

  136. Taelyn on July 11th, 2009 9:17 pm

YAY! I just bought 2 snuggies in sage green!!! No more cold arms!

  137. Lily on July 11th, 2009 9:44 pm

“And since AG isn’t really planning about new historical character,no characters are in danger” . . . AG&FAN, none of us know what AG is planning. They’re always planning. Always. They just don’t tell us until a month or so before the doll’s release.

  138. AG&FAN on July 12th, 2009 12:19 am

I really love the fact that AG is so quiet about next release; I really like being suprised. Not that I don’t really like knowing even a one single thing,b/c of course, you have to know;.

Do you think AG needs dolls that are like, starting middle school instead of a 5th grade? That will be really helpful for 5th grade girls and older…even though they only will go up to 7th grade,of course.

  139. AG&FAN on July 12th, 2009 12:23 am

And one thing I like about AG; they never inspire girls to be fashion-genius,bragger,different you,show-off,or anything bad like that!

And agree with you,Sitara! You have to keep up with modern stuff..not does old…stuff. I guess that’s why some of AG JLY or AGOT things were retired-not modern, just maybe.

If someone will retire,I do not hope it’s any of those trio. I really want them so badly…Espescially Molly b/c she’s so cute!

  140. Lena on July 12th, 2009 6:54 am

Sitara, there’s a spelling worksheet, a comp book, Rebecca’s Meet book, A buterfly study sheet, and some other little things. I’m too lazy to get the book out of the other room right now :D

AG&FAN, that *is* why the retire AGOT stuff. It goes out of fashion.

  141. Chloe on July 12th, 2009 8:35 am

I think Sitara was asking what homework worksheets come with the school desk, but I don’t know the other ones because I don’t have it! I know there is one for Art…

I don’t know when I’ll be getting them. I bought them at the AG Place LA on Thursday and had them shipped to my house.

  149. Lily on July 12th, 2009 4:18 pm

Is Julie’s swimsuit ever mentioned in her books?

  150. pioneerfan04 on July 12th, 2009 4:23 pm

    hi guys.

  151. pioneerfan04 on July 12th, 2009 4:24 pm

    I’m super sick.

  152. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 6:37 pm

I know I said that my winter holidays just started a while ago. And then two people told me to build a snowman, Well it doesn’t snow in most of Australia unless you go to a ski resort. So there will be no snowman building

  153. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 6:47 pm

No Lily, Julie’s swimsuit isn’t mentioned in her books.

  154. Taylor on July 12th, 2009 6:56 pm

Speaking of Julie’s swimsuit my little sister has Julie in it right now and she is “sunbathing” in the living room.

  155. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 6:58 pm

Awwww, that’s cute! It’s too cold to sunbathe here!

  156. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 6:59 pm

    Even for dolls!

  157. Taylor on July 12th, 2009 7:02 pm

lol. It gets warm enough here but the funny thing is that it wasn’t even sunny today.

  158. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 7:05 pm

In the summer it gets super hot here but in winter it’s pretty cold- but no snow :(

  159. Taylor on July 12th, 2009 7:06 pm

    It’s summer here.

  160. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 7:07 pm

I live in australia so it’s winter.

  161. Taylor on July 12th, 2009 7:07 pm

Snow is fun but then it gets boring after a while, then it snows to much and you have to shovel it all the time.

  162. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 7:08 pm

I’ve only been to the snow once in yr six when we had to go with school. It was fun but we couldn’t build a snowman.

  163. Taylor on July 12th, 2009 7:09 pm

Sorry I was just on for a couple minutes but I have to go eat dinner right now and watch “Batman Returns” cuz it is on tv and I haven’t seen it in a LONG time.

  164. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 7:09 pm

    okay cya!

  165. Lena on July 12th, 2009 8:33 pm

Georgia, I was making a joke. I know Australia doesn’t get much snow.

  166. Lily on July 12th, 2009 8:59 pm

    Thanks for the info, Georgia!

When I was in the AG store, there were about a zillion Rebecca displays! One in the front window, one on the first floor, a 2nd floor display near the escalator, and then finally her own booth. She’s beautiful in person. I love those eyes. Her hair looks more maneageable than Nicki’s. After having so many Rebeccas staring at me, I didn’t have much trouble passing Emily over for her! I love her movie outfit.

  167. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 9:22 pm

I thought you must have been joking.
Lily, have you read Rebecca’s books?

  168. Lily on July 12th, 2009 9:29 pm

No, not yet. I flipped through all of Rebecca’s books to see the illustrations when I was at B&N before my flight yesterday. I also read Really, Truly Ruthie in about 20-30 minutes. I can’t believe how short it was . . . only 59 pages!

I started reading Chrissa’s book. It was interesting to say the least. So her mom is a doctor and her dad is a potter? Interesting combination. Nothing wrong with it, just odd. The llama illustration was cute!

I thought it was weird when Sonali brought the gift bag over and Chrissa noted that it was reused and “her family recycles too”. It seemed kind of out of place and forced, like AG was wanting to make sure their characters are eco-friendly.

  169. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 10:03 pm

    I haven’t read Chrissa’s books. I’ve only read the ones i have: Julie’s, Kit’s and Rebecca’s

  170. Lily on July 12th, 2009 10:12 pm

Is it at all strange for you to read books about girls from another country?

  171. Sitara on July 12th, 2009 10:40 pm

    Lena,
I was actually asking about the desk worksheets, but thanks for telling me what comes with Doll School–it sounds really cool. So the Rebecca book is an actual book, like what comes with her mini doll?

    Lily,
The gift bag thing is weird. I don’t like it when authors throw in stuff like that; it feels unnatural. (I read a whole book like that once–it was a sequel, and it was pretty obvious that the author had been asked to make a pro-green book. I think I donated the book to the library.)
To me it isn’t strange to read books about foreign girls. Considering that my mother did everything in her power to prevent me from being American (despite the fact I’ve lived in the US for my whole life), I’m not the best judge, though.

  172. Aaryana on July 12th, 2009 11:01 pm

    Georgia,

I didn’t know where you are from. It’s really cool that you are from Australia. It’s such a beautiful place. I want to visit there again soon!

  173. Lily on July 12th, 2009 11:03 pm

Rebecca the mini doll comes with a small portion of her book . . . if you want the whole thing, you have to read the standard sized book.

Sitara, could you elaborate on why your mother didn’t want to you to be an American? If you don’t want to talk about it, I understand. I’m just curious since most places aren’t as well off as the US.

  174. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 11:07 pm

It’s not really strange to read about another country because im sure it’s probably a bit similar to Australian history. And I like reading about other countries.

  175. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 11:09 pm

Aaryana, have you been to Australia?

  176. Georgia on July 12th, 2009 11:10 pm

And I really like American history.

  177. Sara on July 12th, 2009 11:13 pm

Hey! I forgot to say this, but, I’m back!! Any1 miss me? ;)

Ok, I posted a new link. This one is an episode from a TV show called Highway to Heaven. It stars the late Michael Landon and the late Victor French. But, I do warn u, this episode can scare u.

  178. Lily on July 12th, 2009 11:41 pm

I like the history of other countries too, mostly western European ones. I wish they had dolls, too!

  179. Lena on July 13th, 2009 6:25 am

Sitara, its a paperback version of the mini doll book.

Lily, I beg to differ. Lots of places are better off right now than the US.

Sitara’s mother wanted to retain her Indian herritage, right? Plenty of immigrants do. I speak Polish at home and celebrate Polish holidays. Its just like Beckie’s family still being Russian-Jewish.

  180. Holly on July 13th, 2009 9:09 am

thats really cool that every1 seems to b from a different country, or a different part of the US.
im an anglo-american. i want 2 travel to england where my ancestors are from. the funny thing is, every1 asks me if im part oriental, i have really slinder eyes that slants.
any idea what nationality that may b?

  181. Lily on July 13th, 2009 10:53 am

Lena, a good chunk of the world has been affected by Communism and Socialism, like Canada, England, China, and Eastern Europe. Historically, the US has been better off than most. In this economic climate, I’m not sure. The whole world isn’t doing too well at the moment. But I completely understand wanting to keep traditions from your homeland.

  182. Lily on July 13th, 2009 10:54 am

  183. Lena on July 13th, 2009 11:18 am

Um…. Canada was never affected by communism or socialism.

Funny you say that… because Europe’s doing better than the US right now.

  184. Lena on July 13th, 2009 11:19 am

Canada & England were never affected by it.

    go england!!! :)

  186. Lily on July 13th, 2009 11:36 am

Yes, Canada and England were affected by Socialized health care. But let’s not argue. I found a Nellie doll with no clothes on Craigslist for $45. The seller advertised her as a today doll. I know you’ve been looking for a Nellie. Do you want me to tell you how to get to the listing?

  187. Lily on July 13th, 2009 11:40 am

Lena, click on my name to see the doll.

  188. Lena on July 13th, 2009 11:43 am

Thats not so ci al ism. Its actually a better system than here, because you only pay for the medicine, not the service. But I agree, lets not argue.

I wanted Nellie’s eyes in an original mold…. but GAH!!!!! I find it difficult to pass that up……..

  189. Lily on July 13th, 2009 11:47 am

I knew you might like her. ;)

  190. Lily on July 13th, 2009 11:48 am

I can’t wait for my Rebecca and Julie!

  191. Lena on July 13th, 2009 11:52 am

You’ll love Rebecca even more when she’s your and you can play with her curls.

I’m really twitching. I want that Nellie. I want her.

  192. Lily on July 13th, 2009 11:58 am

I know! I loved her hair in person . . . those curls are perfect. I think they’ll be much more maneageable than Nicki’s. Her movie dress is stunning in person. I couldn’t pass her up, so I didn’t. I also couldn’t pass up Julie’s swimsuit.

  193. Lily on July 13th, 2009 12:00 pm

For some reason, Kirsten’s birthday outfit was prettier this year than last year. I also didn’t give myself a chance to doubt my choice. Poor Kirsten has been neglected while dolls like Samantha and Felicity get every outfit under the sun.

  194. Lena on July 13th, 2009 12:04 pm

Julie’s swim suit is on my wishlist. I have the movie dress, and my only complaint about it is that the hat is too small and sits on her head weird. No, i really don’t mind that the outfit is pink even, it looks that pretty. Helena is wearing it now.

Sigh. There’s a reason Kirsten’s one of the forgotten four. I wish she;d get more stuff….

  195. Lily on July 13th, 2009 12:08 pm

Whenever I think about buying one of Kirsten’s outfits, I think about Felicity’s riding outfit or Kit’s reporter outfit or something that’s just a little bit prettier. It’s a sad phenomena. Kirsten just needs a new outfit or two.

  196. Lena on July 13th, 2009 12:24 pm

Yeah… it is sad. That’s why I promised myself only core seven outfits (the ones on the covers of the old books + Pjs). Kaya’s the exception (obviously and sadly), and I haven’t figured what I’ll do about Julie yet. Beckie thankfully has a different outfit on each cover, so that helps.

  197. Lily on July 13th, 2009 12:28 pm

I can’t wait for Beckie’s summer and holiday dresses. In the books, her summer dress looks a lot like one of LoF Elsie’s outfits.

  198. Lily on July 13th, 2009 12:29 pm

Wow . . . that was the 1st time I called Rebecca “Beckie” without thinking twice about it.

  199. Lena on July 13th, 2009 12:29 pm

Yeah, in different colors. I want that dress so bad. For myself.

  200. Lily on July 13th, 2009 12:32 pm

I was amazed at how much room the JLY dolls took up at the AG Place. They had pretty much the whole first floor and about half of the second. I’m not a big fan of the current JLY outfits, except for the bowling outfit. It’s very nice in person, especially the metallic bowling ball.

  201. Lena on July 13th, 2009 12:40 pm

I like the bowling outfit too…. and that’s about it. I think i’ll go bac to hunting ebay and other such sites for Marisol’s clothes, because I liked them better.

Isin’t it amazing? Its the same in NY. People who aren’t aware come into the store and think its just Barbie stuff and leave. It took me a while to find the escalators to the second floor where the historicals are kept.

  202. Lily on July 13th, 2009 12:49 pm

I’ve been to AG stores in Dallas (2008), LA (2009), and NY (2006) and they’re all laid out so the JLY is the most prominently displayed along with their rip-off styling counter.

  203. Lily on July 13th, 2009 12:52 pm

Well . . . in LA the styling counter is in the back of the first floor. But except for a few Rebecca displays, the whole first floor was 100% JLY and GOTY.

  204. Lily on July 13th, 2009 12:59 pm

So is there a chance you’ll buy that Nellie doll?

  205. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 1:03 pm

    Georgia,

Yes, I’ve been to Australia. I went for a study abroad class to study ecosystems in the Reef. It was a two week class that fulfilled a requirement for my degree. I get my Bachelor’s degree in December! And, it was a lot more fun than sitting in a classroom listening to a professor lecture for two hours!

  206. Lena on July 13th, 2009 1:03 pm

Not likley (I’m bursting into tears… I want that Nellie) because I live in FL.

  207. Lena on July 13th, 2009 1:06 pm

Bleh. The JLY and GOTY are over commecialized IMO. And that hair salon is most definatly a rip off. I’ve hears some good things about them, but mostly bad.

  208. Lily on July 13th, 2009 1:07 pm

You can offer to send a money order or use PayPal. Of course, everyone isn’t comfortable with doing that.

  209. Lily on July 13th, 2009 1:20 pm

Other than the doll salon being a rip off, what bad things have you heard about it?

  210. Lena on July 13th, 2009 1:27 pm

They don’t pay attention to what customers say (ie, my girls want to watch can they? Sure, they’ll get the hair done in 15 min. They come back, the hair’s done.) and do hair badly (like Sam’s they take way too much hair into the ponytail thing, Kailey’s they mae the braids funny). I can’t remeber the rest, but this one lady complained about the service in the MOA store, and this was part of it Others chimmed in that the salon wasn’t good to their dolls either.

  211. Lily on July 13th, 2009 1:36 pm

I feel bad for the girls who didn’t get to watch their dolls while their hair was being styled. If I’m paying $10-25 for a doll’s hair styling, I want to watch it!

  212. Lena on July 13th, 2009 1:44 pm

Me too. Those girls wanted to watch so they’d know how to do it themselves. Thankfully, I never have to use the salon, as I’m good with hair (in general, mine and dolls)

  213. Lily on July 13th, 2009 2:03 pm

Same here. I can braid and french braid easily, so there’s no need for me. Where did you hear the story about the girls who didn’t get to watch the hair styling?

  214. Lena on July 13th, 2009 2:06 pm

    On an adult messagin board.

  215. Lily on July 13th, 2009 2:07 pm

I wish there was something I could do to help you get Nellie. I know what it’s like to find something you want badly on Craigslist and not be able to get it.(remember the Nancy Drew books?)

  216. pioneerfan04 on July 13th, 2009 3:21 pm

    hi evry1

  217. pioneerfan04 on July 13th, 2009 3:21 pm

    is any1 on?

  218. Lena on July 13th, 2009 3:36 pm

Sorry Lily, I got into cleaning out my closet. Yeah, I remeber those books. I really did hope you’d get them.

  219. Lily on July 13th, 2009 3:54 pm

The seller told me that she’d be happy to let the buyer know I was interested. I wonder if she was just trying to get me to be quiet . . . anyway, I hope you get Nellie. You could ask the seller if they have a PayPal account and have them ship the doll to you.

  220. Lena on July 13th, 2009 3:57 pm

I’d have to ask my dad first. And he won’t be home…. till 11;30, or 10:30 going by the time on here.

  221. Lily on July 13th, 2009 4:04 pm

I wish you the best of luck. If you do get her, you have to show us your finished Saoirse (or whichever doll she’s destined to become)!

  222. Lena on July 13th, 2009 4:19 pm

They eyes I want for Saoirse, the face for Chastity.

But I think I’m gonna make a boy instead. Still with that mold, just shorter hair.

  223. Lily on July 13th, 2009 5:01 pm

Right now I’m painting Elizabeth onto a wooden peg doll. She looks good so far. I may do other AG characters too.

  224. Georgia on July 13th, 2009 5:06 pm

Aaryana, can you believe that I’ve never been to the reef? I hope to go in the future though!
I’ve been to the LA and NY stores. Both times I really didn’t bother to look at the JLY’s that much and went straight to the historicals. I love the historicals!

  225. Lily on July 13th, 2009 5:20 pm

I love the historicals too. The only reason why I give the JLY dolls a second glance is because I have two of them from 1998 and 1999 when my parents picked the dolls out, not me and my sister. Other than select athletic outfits (most of which are retired), their clothes don’t appeal to me.

  226. Georgia on July 13th, 2009 5:23 pm

I like dolls that have a personality. Like ones with books have a personality with them. Sometimes it’s fun to make up things but I would much rather have a doll that has a story attached.

  227. Sara on July 13th, 2009 5:25 pm

Any1 take a look at the link I posted?

  228. Holly on July 13th, 2009 5:48 pm

  231. Lily on July 13th, 2009 6:27 pm

Strepsil? I’ve never heard of that before. I’ll google it.

  232. Georgia on July 13th, 2009 6:27 pm

    It’s a throat lolly

  233. Georgia on July 13th, 2009 6:28 pm

I was sucking it coz i have a sore throat and then i swallowed the whole thing!

  234. Lily on July 13th, 2009 6:28 pm

I hope you feel better soon, Georgia!

  235. Georgia on July 13th, 2009 6:29 pm

    thanks!

  236. AG&FAN on July 13th, 2009 6:29 pm

    Hi! When I checked the account that I used for ordering Beckie&her accessories,it said;

it will take 8 to 10 days for it to arrive…

It would be awesome if I at least live near AG outlets; they sell some AG outfits
(probably just some…)and all the AG characters!!! Then I wouldn’t even need to wait like this at all-it’s so boring. And phoeey,I think Beckie might come Monday,Tuesday or Friday; boo-hoo… I’m so sad b/c of it! When would AG even
offer free 1 or 2 day shipping like Amazon?

  237. Georgia on July 13th, 2009 6:33 pm

When my mum orderd Beckie for me it only took about 10 days and i live overseas!

  238. AG&FAN on July 13th, 2009 6:34 pm

    They really should make one in my state(I am not telling which is my state;;;
just the fact that I don’t even have AGP in my state…) or Oregon(which is so awesome idea; b/c they have no tax.)!

Does anyone know how long it takes to build an AGP or AG B&B?

It’s so unfair that northeast gets all the AG stores…I really want to visit one.

  239. AG&FAN on July 13th, 2009 6:37 pm

Oh, then probably,Beckie will arrive sooner. Last time I ordered my JLY in FRIDAY,FRIDAY,FRIDAY,it came in FRIDAY. I ordered Beckie in FRIDAY so hopefully I’ll get her&accessories in FRIDAY.

Actually,it is supposed to be Saturday in central; Ordered her late at night!

  240. AG&FAN on July 13th, 2009 6:40 pm

And; if you actually stay up for New Year’s Day(December 31 or January 1st both)
,and if you live in pacific, you should check new GOTY in like, only in about 11′o clock. Rest is really,in actual time when AG updates stuff. I probably won’t b/c that’s just time for winter break(summer in the middle of the earth or Austrilia.)
    !

  241. Holly on July 13th, 2009 6:46 pm

im goin 2 order the next GOTY the 1st day shes out

  242. Lily on July 13th, 2009 7:00 pm

If I pass up Chrissa, I’ll do the same. I’m not very impressed with her outfits. A lot of them are too dull looking. For Christmas, I think I might just get my current dolls a few outfits and use the leftovers to buy the new GOTY.

  243. Georgia on July 13th, 2009 7:01 pm

What if you don’t like the new GOTY?

  244. Lily on July 13th, 2009 7:04 pm

Then I’ll save myself a couple hundred bucks! . . . If I don’t like her, I may just wait for the next historical doll.

  245. pioneerfan04 on July 13th, 2009 7:32 pm

r there any rumors abt the next GOTY doll?

  246. pioneerfan04 on July 13th, 2009 7:33 pm

when do we usually find out abt the next GOTY?

  247. Georgia on July 13th, 2009 7:33 pm

No and there probably wont be until late this year.

  248. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 7:41 pm

    Georgia,

It’s sad that you have never been to the Reef. It is so beautiful! But, I can understand that. I live in the U.S. and I’ve never been to the Capitol building! I did get to see the towers before 9/11 though.

In other news: I get paid on Friday, and I’m thinking about ordering something for my dolls. Should I order Chrissa’s Warm Up set, Chrissa’s Party Treats, or Molly’s 1944 Swimsuit? Any thoughts?

Also, I agree. I wish there was an AG store closer to me. I probably won’t be in Atlanta (closest to me) again until January 2010! Maybe I can get the new GOTY then….

  249. Lily on July 13th, 2009 7:45 pm

I was going to buy Molly and Emily’s swimsuits last week in Los Angeles. Together, they were kind of bland looking. Molly’s is cute alone, though. I bought Julie’s swimsuit instead.

  250. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 7:46 pm

Oh! That is a good idea! Maybe I’ll get Julie’s. I don’t have Julie yet, but I love all of her stuff!

  251. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 7:48 pm

I want Sonali the most though. I can’t wait until my birthday, even though my mom says 22 years old is too old for dolls.

  252. pioneerfan04 on July 13th, 2009 8:04 pm

i want chrissa sooo bad!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! and gwen and sonali!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! all 3 of them are GORGEOUS! sonali’s hair is so shiny, and gwen’s hair looks so silky, and chrissa’s haircut is beautiful!

  253. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 8:11 pm

I like my Chrissa a lot. Her hair is really easy to manage, but I have to mist it before I brush it because it started to get a little frizzy. Not bad though. The mist fixed it right away.

  254. Lily on July 13th, 2009 8:15 pm

Chrissa is okay, but I don’t want to buy a doll that I don’t absolutely love.

  255. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 8:20 pm

I think the reason I like Chrissa so much is because I can really relate to her story. I was teased a lot when I was a kid, and I like knowing that girls will see Chrissa’s story and think twice before bullying another person or learn that it is okay to stand up for yourself. Her meet dress is just okay. I bought Licorice’s Play Outfit for her to wear instead though.

  256. Gracie on July 13th, 2009 8:32 pm

I just got a Julie doll and she has great hair! Who else has a Julie doll?

  257. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 8:35 pm

The girl I baby sit does. I love her hair too! I can’t wait to get her!

  258. Lily on July 13th, 2009 8:36 pm

I started reading Chrissa’s first book a few days ago in a bookstore and I enjoyed it. Asthetically, she just isn’t top notch.

I’m getting my Julie doll later this week, Gracie. I saw her in person at the AG Plcae and I love her hair too.

  259. Gracie on July 13th, 2009 9:30 pm

I’m trying to find out what colors look the best on certain dolls. ( Ruthie looks great in pink!) I really want to know what color looks good on Julie. This is what I know: Ruthie = pink Felicity = bright red Rebecca= green Elizabeth = blue Addy= neon colors or light pink That’s all I know so far but if anyone knows what any other doll looks good in please tell me!!!

  260. Lily on July 13th, 2009 9:50 pm

Felicity looks great in green. For the most part, dolls look good in outfits that match their eyes. I’d say Julie’s color is also pink. Addy looks great in jewel tones (royal blue, deep purple, forest green).

  261. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 9:58 pm

Chrissa looks really nice in blue. I also have a yellow shirt that I made for her. I like yellow on her a lot. I think Mia looks best in either blue or pink. Which dolls do you have?

  262. Gracie on July 13th, 2009 10:05 pm

I have Felicity, Samantha, Kaya, Julie, Ruthie, Chrissa, and 2 JLYs ( blonde hair blue eyes and the other one is blonde hair green eyes)

  263. Gracie on July 13th, 2009 10:07 pm

    Which ones do you have

  264. Lily on July 13th, 2009 10:09 pm

Oh, goodness. I have 14 dolls (Rebecca and Julie are in the mail).

    Felicity
    Elizabeth
    Kirsten
    Samantha
    Nellie
    Rebecca
    Kit
    Molly
    Julie
    Jess
    Nicki
    Mia
    JLY blond hair, blue eyes
JLY light brown hair, brown eyes

  265. Taylor on July 13th, 2009 10:24 pm

I have Samantha and Nellie. My little sister has Felicity, Elizabeth, and Julie. My older sister has Josefina.

  266. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 10:32 pm

    Gracie,

I think dark blue looks really nice on Kaya. Definitely yellow or light blue on Chrissa. Green for Felicity, maroon (or other darker colors) on Samantha. Light pink also looks good on Sam. I like prints on Ruthie. Kit’s Reporter Dress looks great on her. JLYs with blonde hair look great in bright red.

I listed which dolls I have above somewhere in this post. The only two I actually really pay attention to are Chrissa and Mia. I love all my historical dolls so much, but I don’t want to mess them up. I keep them in a glass cabinet where they won’t get dusty.

  267. Gracie on July 13th, 2009 10:32 pm

Cool! And why were people calling the doll hair salon a rip off?

  268. Taylor on July 13th, 2009 10:35 pm

Because you pay $20 for someone to style the dolls hair when you could just do it yourself. And there is a book that has hairstyles in it that is cheaper than $20.

  269. Lily on July 13th, 2009 10:42 pm

$20 for a service that takes between 1-5 minutes is a rip-off, even if it does include a hair ribbon.

  270. Lily on July 13th, 2009 10:48 pm

Aaryana, how long have you been collecting AG dolls? It’s neat to have someone your age on here.

  271. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 10:51 pm

    Hi, Lily!

I got my first AG for Christmas when I was 7 years old. I am almost 22 now, so I have been collecting for 14.5 years! I’ve always loved dolls, especially AG and Barbie. I still collect both.

  272. Aaryana on July 13th, 2009 10:53 pm

My first AG Girl was Molly, in case you were wondering. :) She’s still my favorite.

  273. katherine on July 14th, 2009 12:18 am

that is cool Aaryana that you are older and still like your dolls. i want to keep my historical dolls in perfect condition but i dont want to put them in glass. i got samantha first and she is my favorite historical doll(she is sitting on my lap right now) but i really love Gwen and Jess of the yearly dolls. i do keep my 2nd kit doll on my book shelf because she is old and i dont want to mess her up any more.

  274. AG&FAN on July 14th, 2009 12:50 am

It’s really cool that AG has adult collectors; They really know about AG’s history and is soooo good at collecting AG doll.

I think there’s nothing wrong with adults, teenagers, and of course, young girls playing with AG dolls and there’s NOTHING SPOILED with that.

  275. AG&FAN on July 14th, 2009 12:52 am

Do you think it’s wrong for boys to play with AG dolls…?

    I mean they do have a bitty boy…although it’s for girls….

I am not saying that it;s really wrong for boys to play

with AG dolls…I am just asking for your opinion……..

And I think it;s really cool about daily savings; but

you never can buy stuff from AG so I prefer the weekly ones.

  276. AG&FAN on July 14th, 2009 12:54 am

And here’s my favorites now;1.Julie2.Elizabeth3.Felicity4.Molly5.KirstenLily,looks like u have all my favorites! That’s so cool(even though I just startedcollecting THIS year…so 2 is lot for 1st year collector.)

  277. Georgia on July 14th, 2009 3:06 am

I bought 2 dolls in my first year of collecting (last year) because i was visiting the U.S. and instad of having to pay for the shipping, i bought 2 while i was there. I now have three plus a Gotz doll which i also bought last year

  278. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:43 am

I think dolls with red hair should not be dressed in red clothes (or any shade of red – yes, pink is in here) because it makes them look…. odd. I never liked redheads in red…. most collectors seem to agree.

    For the record, I have:
    Zoey (Kit)
    Helena (Rebecca)
    Samantha
    Kirsten
    Sonali
    ALOF Laylie
    ALOF Elsie
    Karito Kids Ling
    KK Lulu
    KK Pita
    Alix (Madame Alexander)

  279. Chloe on July 14th, 2009 10:28 am

Here are all the AG dolls I have:

Bitty Baby w/ brown hair, brown eyes
Bitty Twins w/ blonde hair, blue eyes
Bitty Twins w/ brown hair, brown eyes
    Felicity
    Elizabeth
    Julie
JLY w/ brown hair, medium skin, brown eyes
    Jess
    Nicki

My sister also has Josefina, Addy, Samantha and Molly

  280. Lily on July 14th, 2009 10:54 am

Lena, I agree with the red thing.

  281. Holly on July 14th, 2009 11:03 am

i dont look good in red, im a red head, so im sure dolls like felicity dont either.

  282. Lily on July 14th, 2009 11:13 am

Red and pink generally clash with redheads.

  283. Lena on July 14th, 2009 11:31 am

I knew I wasn’t the only one who didn’t like redheads in red. It makes them look like walikng tomatoes.

  284. Lily on July 14th, 2009 11:51 am

It’s really funny to see redheads with sunburned faces. I call them lobsters.

Lena, so has the Nellie doll panned out at all? I just got an email from a Craigslist seller saying that she doesn’t do cross-border deals. Yeah, because I’m going to scam her out of $10!

  285. Lena on July 14th, 2009 12:05 pm

I’m not gtting the Nellie (althought I so badly want to) since at the moment, my plans include any light blue eyed doll bough cheap on ebay (or similar) and a blythe wig.

  286. Lily on July 14th, 2009 12:10 pm

    Saoirse, right? Well, good luck!

  287. Lily on July 14th, 2009 12:15 pm

I’m off to read a book!

  288. Lena on July 14th, 2009 12:26 pm

Nope. A boy. I seriously want a boy.

  289. Lena on July 14th, 2009 12:26 pm

Doll, I meant a boy doll.

  290. Taylor on July 14th, 2009 12:26 pm

AG&FAN I don’t think that it is wrong for boys to play with dolls. I am totally okay with that. There are boys who collect and play with action figures which are similar to dolls. Some boys just like dolls. And I’m happy that ag made the boy bitty twins (even though they are meant for girls) so if a boy wanted a doll he could get one that looks like him.

  291. Lena on July 14th, 2009 12:38 pm

In agreement with Taylor. There is nothing wrong with boys playing with dolls.

  292. Lily on July 14th, 2009 12:59 pm

Ho hum. How many business days does it take for AG stuff to get to your house with standard shipping? And when you buy something from the store and have it shipped to your house, do they actually ship it from the store? Or do they just send it from their Wisconsin warehouse?

  293. Lena on July 14th, 2009 1:06 pm

If a doll is included, 4 days. If not, 7.

I’ve never had anyhing shipped from the store, so i can’t be of help there.

  294. Lily on July 14th, 2009 1:08 pm

So orders with dolls ship faster? Do you know why?

  295. Lena on July 14th, 2009 1:08 pm

Actually, no. My PS did pick my Helena out personally, and it still took 4 days to reach my in FL from NY. Did you pick the dolls out personally and ask that they be shipped to you? If you did, then they’ll ship the ones you bought. If not, then I think they ship from the wherehouse.

  296. Lena on July 14th, 2009 1:10 pm

Bigger packages? I don;t really know, but I assume so. Sam’s clothes arrived a day after Sam did (my dad bought them seperatly cause it was a surprise for me) so it may depend on package size.

  297. Lily on July 14th, 2009 1:15 pm

Yes, I took the stuff to the register and had it shipped.

  298. pioneerfan04 on July 14th, 2009 1:19 pm

    hi

  299. Gracie on July 14th, 2009 2:56 pm

    Is anyone on?

  300. Holly on July 14th, 2009 3:12 pm

    me :-)

  301. pioneerfan04 on July 14th, 2009 4:45 pm

gosh it’s awful quiet on here this afternoon.

  302. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 5:11 pm

I am also in agreement about the red hair/red clothes thing. I had red hair as a child, and my favorite color was red. I hated not being able to wear red, so I dyed my hair blonde! It’s been blonde since I was 12. The only exception is that I think Mia looks good in magenta even though she has red hair. Though I like blue better on her.

There are some other young adults that I’m friends with who still collect AG dolls. We’ve formed a sort of AG Collectors Anonymous group. :P She has Felicity and Kirsten and all of their pre-Mattel accessories. She doesn’t play with her dolls much anymore, but I’m guilty of changing Chrissa into her PJ’s every night.

I must be lucky. When I order from AG, I get my packages in 2-3 days at the most. By the way, I did order Chrissa’s Warm up outfit today! Gotta love getting paid!

Question: Can you have a personal shopper at one of the stores even if you don’t live nearby? Lena, I saw where you have a PS in New York but live in Florida. How does that work? I live in Kentucky, so the closest to me is either Atlanta or Chicago. Both are about 7.5 hours away.

(Sorry for long post! I can’t check the site at work. Boo for work! Yay for getting paid!)

  303. Lily on July 14th, 2009 5:28 pm

I love reading long posts. The same goes for long books. When I read Ruthie’s book (59 pages), I was left wondering “That’s it?!”

I don’t know . . . it must be the Pre-AP student in me. Once you read “A Tale of Two Cities”, nothing is too long or long-winded.

  304. Lily on July 14th, 2009 5:32 pm

But don’t worry; that post wasn’t long winded, Aaryana. I love it when people split their comments into paragraphs so it doesn’t look like one big long sentence.

  305. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 5:43 pm

I remember reading “A Tale of Two Cities” My freshman year of high school. It was hard to get through! The books I read for AP English were much better. And, I agree, Ruthie’s book was much too short!

I was an AP student in high school. I wish the best of luck to you, Lily, in your studies. I shaved off a year of college by taking AP classes, and now I’m going to medical school. I want to be a pediatric oncologist (a doctor who takes care of kids who have cancer.)

  306. Lena on July 14th, 2009 5:44 pm

Well, I got to NY twice a year to visit my friends among other things, so last year I got a PS. No, you don’t need to live in that state to have one.

  307. Lena on July 14th, 2009 5:47 pm

Good for you Aaryana. As someone who has MS and went through many bad doctors before finding a good one, I wish you the best of luck in becoming an pediatric oncologist.

  308. Taylor on July 14th, 2009 5:51 pm

That is awesome Aaryana I’ve never heard of a job like that and it sounds fun.

  309. Lily on July 14th, 2009 5:52 pm

You’re going to medical school? That’s what I hope to do down the road. I love learning how people work. When we had to dissect rats in Biology, I was the only one in my group who handled the scalpel. It was quite neat to see its insides. I won’t get into detail because I’m sure squeamish people are reading this.

In the meantime, I’m taking 5 Pre-AP classes this coming school year. Definitely not fun, but I’m not the type to take the backseat when I could be getting through school faster.

  310. Taylor on July 14th, 2009 5:54 pm

I love dissecting! I know a lot of people don’t like it but I really do. This school year I’m taking Zoology and I think it will be fun learning about animals and I heard you get to dissect a lot of stuff.

I volunteer in the oncology clinic right now, and I’ve heard many patients say the same thing. I understand how difficult it can be to have a bad doctor, or one who’s cold or rude. I’ve experienced it too. I love the patients I work with in the clinic, and the girls all love AG. It’s a great conversation piece. One of the girls even has her AG doll set up to receive chemo when she does.

Lena, I’m so glad you’ve found a good doctor. The university I go to does lots of research, and we did a study on doctor/patient relationships. We found that patients who feel good about their doctors respond much better to treatments, so it’s very important that you like your doctor!

  312. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 5:59 pm

    Thanks, Taylor!

Dissections are a lot of fun! I enjoyed my anatomy classes very much. In one of them, I was the only person who would hold the scalpel too.

If anyone ever needs help with chem, bio, or physics, let me know! I loved my undergraduate courses, except ecology. But, that was because my professor was boring and only talked about insects for 18 weeks. Insects are cool for about two weeks, not 18!

  313. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:02 pm

The doctor I had before was so rude… he isisted that I go on medication, and I really didn’t want to… he said I would loose my ability to walk if I didn’t. He was really mean.

The one I have now I nice, and he put me on an organic diet, and guess what? I no new MS signs (any – including new legions on my brain) for a year. And I have a job, and dance, and do tae kwon do… that proved the old guy wrong.

That’s cute about the AG doll getting chemo… not the chemo itself, but that the girl did that to make her feel not so alone. I did that with Zoey, took her to the hospital last year after I rediscovered dolls.

  314. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:02 pm

    Lily,

Study hard! I hope all goes well for you in AP. Getting a free pass on the introductory classes in college will be great, especially because they’re all “busy work” that doesn’t help you much.

  315. alexis on July 14th, 2009 6:03 pm

Is it true that Julies movie is coming out next?

  316. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:04 pm

Thanks, but I’m already done with my science classes, but I am taking marine biology this year, if you can help with that.

  317. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:05 pm

No. There has been no confirmation of a Julie movie other than the article a yaer ago.

  318. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:07 pm

    Lena,

I’m glad you’ve found a great treatment plan. I know a young woman who won her battle with cancer without using any drugs! She started an organic diet as well after her surgery to remove a tumor and it hasn’t come back. It’s great that you stood up for yourself and are pro-active in your treatment. A lot of people, young and old, struggle with that. I must say, I’m proud of you!

The best way to give chemo to leukemia patients is through a chest catheter. The doctor’s put one into her doll’s chest for her and gave her an empty saline IV bag to hook to it. It was so cute, and it comforted her so much.

  319. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:11 pm

I can help with marine biology!

I hope there is a Julie movie sometime in the future. I just checked http://www.imdb.com. (Internet Movie DataBase) There doesn’t appear to be a listing for an AG movie starring Julie.

Speaking of movies… Is anyone going to see Harry Potter at midnight?

  320. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:13 pm

Aww….. dolls help in the hospital. I had severe insomnia for the week I was there (the only time I slept, I was under anestesia) and Zoey and me stayed up playing games on AG (in out matching non-AG pjs).

My grandma had two tumors removed (oddly enough, she still smokes  ) and she’s under chemo right now, so I know the pain of having someone with cancer in the family. My dad’s brother also died last year, but they haven’t figured out if it was from lung cancer or cirrhosis of the liver.

I’m a very rebelious child. My mom says I’m too old for dolls… yet I plan a trip to Atlanta for my 17th birthday… and she agrees.

  321. Lily on July 14th, 2009 6:18 pm

What does an organic diet help with?

The UPS truck just came and Rebecca and Julie aren’t here yet. So far it’s been three business days since I ordered. It might be awhile!

I’m so happy! On Craigslist I found a listing for 45 books and the seller agreed to accept PayPal and ship them to me for just $15 total! The lot includes only 2 books that I need, but I’m planning on selling the extras on eBay for a tidy profit.

  322. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:21 pm

Haha! I’m trying to convince my parents to take me to Chicago for my birthday. I’m going to Atlanta with friends in January. Two AG store trips in less than six months, yippee!

My mom also says I’m too old for dolls, yet she already ordered Sonali for my birthday! She wouldn’t before, so I’m not sure what changed. After I turned 14 she wouldn’t buy dolls anymore, but my grandma still did. She bought them even though my mom told her not to. I suppose I am rebellious too! I found a way around it!

Sorry to hear about your loved ones. It’s so sad when something like that touches our families. I think most of us have some sort of personal association with cancer or other serious illness. My grandpa died before I was born due to brain cancer. That’s part of why I want to be a doctor.

  323. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:25 pm

Good for you, Lily! I love it when I find deals like that. Though, I hope your dolls come soon!

An organic diet can help the body to kind of detoxify. Sometimes something as simple as removing toxins (such as those that are used as preservatives in a lot of food items) can help someone who’s sick get better. Organic diets are also lower in sugar and sodium a lot of the time. This is just over all healthier for someone who’s sick. I could also go into a scientific evaluation of the pros and cons of organic food, but I won’t bore you!

  324. Taylor on July 14th, 2009 6:26 pm

Yeah I think a lot of people do have a personal association with cancer or an illness. It runs in a lot of families and mine.

  325. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:27 pm

Part of me want to help kids with MS, but a stronger part wants to do something artistic.

The organic diet helps in that the foods not filled with pesticides and other poisons.

Nice. I only get one trip to NY this year, so Atlanta will more than make up for that. Next year though, I get to go to Palermo with my NY friends so no NY for me, but hey, I’m going to Italy. I’m not complaining.

  326. Taylor on July 14th, 2009 6:28 pm

I am sorry about your grandpa Aaryana my grandpa on my dad’s side died before I was born also. And my grandma on my dad’s side died when I was only a few months old.

  327. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:29 pm

Sorry to hear that Taylor. My step grandpa died of liver failure when I was 3, so I hardly knew him too.

  328. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:33 pm

    Italy! I am totally jealous!

  329. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:37 pm

Their dad’s from there, and since were good friends I get to go too. I promise to take lots of picture and send them to Char.

Hehe… viva Italia! *goes to practice tarantella* (I’m going for their Aunts wedding)

  330. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:39 pm

I have friends in Paris, so I’ve gone there. Greece, too. Both are amazing, but my next destination is Italy.

  331. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:43 pm

My next destination is Jawor, Poland, because that’s where I’m form (again… pictures will be sent) Then next year Palermo. I have a friend form Glosgow, Scotland, and one is Barcelona, Spain. Hoping Glosgow and Barcelona are next on the travel plan.

  332. Taylor on July 14th, 2009 6:45 pm

You guys are lucky I have never been out of the country.

  333. Lena on July 14th, 2009 6:46 pm

Well, my dad wors for Cirque du Soleil, so it was inevetable that I traveled a lot when I was younger… I’ve been on every continent cept Antarctica, I think. I’ve been to Florence before, but i was 2, and way to young to understand.

  334. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:47 pm

Scotland looks really pretty, but I’ve only been to the airport. I’d love to see pics from Poland! When are you going?

  335. Lily on July 14th, 2009 6:48 pm

I’d love to go to Italy . . . they have my favorite cuisine! Spaghetti and meatballs will do in a pinch for me. I also love the language. It sounds more elegant than Spanish, which I’ve studied for two years.

  336. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 6:49 pm

I saw Cirque du Soleil in Vegas. It was awesome!

  337. Lily on July 14th, 2009 6:50 pm

Taylor, I’ve never been out of the country, either. Not even off the mainland. It’ll probably stay that way too until I get married. My parents dislike vacations.

  338. Lily on July 14th, 2009 6:51 pm

Lena, you’ve been to Africa? So is your dad a performer for Cirque du Soleil?

  339. Lily on July 14th, 2009 6:52 pm

Sorry I’m being a little nosy. I’m curious! My sister and I want to got to Cirque when it comes to my city this fall.

  340. Lilly Hazel on July 14th, 2009 7:08 pm

GUESS WHAT AG is having a HUGE sale on dress like your doll clothes, you could by the whole new years outfit for 22$.

  341. Lena on July 14th, 2009 7:48 pm

Yeah, i’ve been to Africa, but I was really young. Yes, he’s a preformer.

I might go this fall, if not, summer next year (going to Italy in fall)

Lily, you really should. The shows are amazing.

  342. Lena on July 14th, 2009 8:07 pm

Lilly Hazel…. some of that stuff is so very tempting…..

  343. Holly on July 14th, 2009 8:16 pm

what stuff on ag is it?

  344. Lena on July 14th, 2009 8:20 pm

Its on the sale section, for girls 8+.

  345. Holly on July 14th, 2009 8:20 pm

o, ok. ive already seen that ((telling herself DUH!!!))

  346. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 8:46 pm

Too bad they don’t make AG t-shirts for grown ups! I tried on one in an AG store once. The kids XL sort of fit me, but it was too short when I stretched or bended, so I didn’t buy it.

  347. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 8:57 pm

Going to see Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince! Have a good night, everyone!

  348. Lena on July 14th, 2009 8:57 pm

I have the same issue Aaryana. Or at least I wish they’d offer different waist sizes on pants (Large is way to big for me, but good in length) Shirts are too small for me too. I own two PJ sets, but the only thing that really fits is Beckie’s PJ top.

  349. Aaryana on July 14th, 2009 9:11 pm

I figure skate, and therefore have a figure skater’s bottom (i.e curvy hips and bottom!) so I didn’t even try pants. They’d probably fit my waist but look awful on my backside! I do wish they made t-shirts in adult sizes. The moms I baby-sit for have even said it would be fun to have mom, daughter, and doll matching tees. Maybe someday!

  350. Lily on July 14th, 2009 9:51 pm

In the past, My Twinn offered mom-girl-doll sets on some outfits, like snowman PJs and a black velvet dress. I’m guessing they weren’t big sellers.

I’ve never even tried to wear anything AG. At 5′8″, there’s not even the slightest chance that the pants to any outfit will fit me since I’ve got really long legs and a small waist.

It would’ve been fun when I was younger to wear one of the dolls’ meet dresses as a Halloween costume! It’s neat to see what matching girl/doll outfits eBay sellers make. That’s how I got the My Twinn colonial dresses.

  351. sunbeemz on July 14th, 2009 10:08 pm

Hopefully I’ll be getting sonali and chrissa on my the 29th of this month!

  352. sunbeemz on July 14th, 2009 10:12 pm

I probably would fit the shirts well but not the pants because I have wide hips.

  353. sunbeemz on July 14th, 2009 10:19 pm

If any of you have seen stepanswodadancer’s cannel (sorry probably spelled that wrong) she has really helpful how to videos such as taking off stains and stuff like that and now she even has a website now! well ta ta for now!

  354. AG&FAN on July 14th, 2009 11:00 pm

Stephenwonderdancer is so awesome. Good videos, good knowledge…I wonder if someone HERE makes any video for Youtube(and AG fans).

  355. AG&FAN on July 15th, 2009 12:17 am

And I am still on Rebecca and the Movies! I should begin the rest all at once right now…

And Rebecca just got shipped today~!

HOPEFULLY it will come before I know!

  356. Sara on July 15th, 2009 8:25 am

    Lucky!!!! :D

Ya, Rebecca and the Movies was my fave Rebecca book!

  357. pioneerfan04 on July 15th, 2009 8:49 am

oh i wanna read beckie’s whole series! her meet book is my absolute favorite by far! it’s not as small as the others, and seems more mature. i’m getting a barnes and noble gift card this week and i’m going to by rebecca and ana and candlelight for rebecca! i cant wait!

  358. Lena on July 15th, 2009 9:24 am

Beckie’s books aren’t that much longer than the others. Josefina’s and Addy’s were longer. Josefina’s seemed the most mature to me… Rebecca whined too much about the shabot candles.

  359. pioneerfan04 on July 15th, 2009 9:37 am

sara i saw that highway to heaven show and i loved it! it’s on of my fave shows! i like old shows like bewitched and i love lucy and little house on the prairie.

  360. Lily on July 15th, 2009 10:20 am

Yeeeeehawwww! Those 45 books are mine for $15! The PayPal payment has been sent. I saw them only a few hours after they were listed, thank goodness! I’m sure someone else would’ve snapped them up quick if I hadn’t. Pretty soon they’ll be turned into more cash on eBay.

I found Samantha’s middy dress and Felicity’s meet dress with accessories on Criagslist! I hope it works out. Part of me wants to resell them and make a profit, and part of me wants to keep them for my dolls.

  361. Lena on July 15th, 2009 10:31 am

Lily, if you buy and resell them, please let me know.

  362. Lena on July 15th, 2009 10:33 am

Oh, and congrats on those books!

  363. alexis on July 15th, 2009 10:36 am

    Cool!!!

  364. alexis on July 15th, 2009 10:36 am

    does addy have many clothes??

  365. pioneerfan04 on July 15th, 2009 10:39 am

alexis– addy has 5 outfits and 1 winter coat, so that’s pretty good.

  366. pioneerfan04 on July 15th, 2009 10:40 am

oh sorry 6 outfits including pajamas and 1 winter coat. ;)

  367. Lily on July 15th, 2009 10:54 am

Thanks, Lena! My fingers are crossed for the outfits. I really hope I get them. The seller is sending me more photos tonight. I’m hoping I can get them for a bargain. That’s why I love Craigslist. Sellers often don’t know how much stuff is worth and they’re just eager to get rid of it. On eBay, the prices can get pretty steep. Craigslist is like treasure hunting. There’s false alarms and jackpots. Yesterday I hit a jackpot. Today I may have hit another.

  368. Lena on July 15th, 2009 10:59 am

Yeah, I’ve started searching Orlando and NY Craiglist and I was amazed I found a Marisol for only $50. Fully clothed, in good condition, only missing her scarf. I contacted the seller, and he has her on hold, but wow.

  369. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:03 am

On eBay, there’s always several people who are willing to pay an arm and a leg for stuff. It’s tiring. That’s why I don’t have Kirsten’s On the Trail checked dress or Felicity’s town fair outfit.

  370. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:08 am

The key to getting stuff on Craigslist is to pounce when you see a good deal because if you see a good deal, other people are likely to see it too and they’ll yank it out from under you. Here’s a good example:

Last week I saw some books that I really wanted. I emailed the seller with an offer. She replied and said OK. The rest of my emails didn’t go through (weird!) and after I gave the seller the weekend to get back to me, the books were already sold. Boo hoo.

  371. Lena on July 15th, 2009 11:12 am

I saw the town fair outfit go for close to 200 once. Did not want to get in the middle of that bidding.

Right now, my main concern is Sam stuff, then Lissie and Molly.

  372. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:13 am

$200!!!! Was it NFRB complete with that wooden toy?

  373. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:15 am

My problem is that whenever I find a HTF doll outfit that I really want, I’m torn between selling it for big bucks or keeping it.

  374. Abby on July 15th, 2009 11:19 am

Ya, Craigslist is pretty cool. Yesterday I went boating with my friends and I noticed they had a new pontune and I said “Where did you get the awesome pontune?” and there like, “Craigslist for $1000 and it works great!”

    Hi!

  384. Sara on July 15th, 2009 11:22 am

Char~ something won’t let me submit a comment. It says something about duplicate comment or something like that.

  385. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:23 am

Wow. I wonder what the outfit would go for if it included the toy? AG would be very smart to rerelease it. Since its retail price in 1997 was $28, they’d have to sell it for atleast $34, maybe $38.

  386. Sara on July 15th, 2009 11:24 am

Oh, mine are! Hmmm….. wonder wat’s going on?

  387. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:24 am

The same thing happened to me. This page is looking really strange on my computer. The comment box is all the way to the left and the rest of the ads and stuff is way out of whack.

  388. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:26 am

    *are*

I’m going to leave and wait for this problem to be fixed. Bye!

Oops! I posted the same comment about 3 different times!! On accident of course!

  390. Lena on July 15th, 2009 11:29 am

Yeah, mine too. The page is all weird and the ads are on the bottom. I’m gonna do what Lily did and leave for a while

Lily, they would be smart,…. but that’s not how a princess would dress and Lisse is now the token princess of the group.

Got Rebecca and the Movies and trading card set :D ) And my mom is making the cake now. Thought y’all would like 2 kno!!

Ideas 4 party Alexis? (very pretty name btw!)

  396. Lena on July 15th, 2009 11:44 am

Well, the site’s back to normal, so hi again. Alexis, I wrote some stuff on the 4th of July thread.

  397. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:46 am

Okay, this page is working again. Unfortunately, the seller of the AG stuff is wanting to sell it all at once. Ugh. It’s a nice lot, though. I may have to ask my parents to take Rebecca for now and give her to me for Christmas so I can free up that money.

  398. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:48 am

Dang it . . . for all of the stuff it’ll be $170 (including shipping).

  399. Lily on July 15th, 2009 11:51 am

I doubt I’ll get it now . . . I might be able to haggle and get it back down to $150. But there’s no way I can get my parents to go for that.

  400. alexis on July 15th, 2009 1:01 pm

Be sure to check my blog! There is only 1 more day to take the poll: who is your favorite girl of the year? And there’s other drama going on.

Today I bought the Doll Crafts book. It’s really cool. I made a wallet, money and a library card, bus pass and gift card for my dolls. I’m going to write a customer review :P Hopefully I’ll be back on tonight. If not, I’ll be on tomorrow.

Also I’m really excited because I went to my doctor today ( I have diabetes and have to take 5 shots a day) and the results were great! Yay :)

  414. Holly on July 15th, 2009 6:14 pm

    thanks sara!!!

congrats chloe!!! im hypoglycemic, but i dont have to take shots, just eat regularly and heavily.

  415. alexis on July 15th, 2009 6:16 pm

    Hey guys!!!!!

    still need party ideas!

  416. pioneerfan04 on July 15th, 2009 6:28 pm

alexis– what would you like to do 4 a party? like, have a theme.

  417. Taelyn on July 15th, 2009 7:11 pm

Alexis, when I turned 11 I had a very interesting party.
I told all my guests to dress in a costume. Didn’t tell them why. I said it was a surprise party. Then we went in my car-still not telling them why- and drove to the mall. My mom gave us these tasks to do, five dollars and a digital camera for each of the two teams. The task list included ask a cute salesperson for his name and take a picture with him, get a job application, buy a tiara and take a picture with it, stand in front of victoria’s secret and make the “secret” sign with your finger and mouth, ask a complete stranger to take the pic. The person to finish all of them first won. After that we went back home, looked at the pics to make sure no one cheated (=]) and had a cake eatting contest without using hands. It was a lot of fun! And nobody else did anything like it.

  418. Aaryana on July 15th, 2009 7:36 pm

    Alexis,

If there is an ice skating rink that’s close to you, go ice skating for your birthday! I love skating in the summer because it’s so cool inside and so hot outside. Or you could have a pool party. I know a lot of people do that, but it’s usually a lot of fun, and most everyone enjoys it. Tea parties are also fun. You could have a tea party like Molly does in her story. I don’t know how old you are, but one of my favorite birthday memories is the first time my friends and I went to a restaurant all by ourselves. It was the year I turned 12. Let us know what you decide!

  419. Aaryana on July 15th, 2009 7:37 pm

I also like Taelyn’s scavenger hunt idea. That could be really fun.

  420. Gracie on July 15th, 2009 8:21 pm

Alexis, you could have a movie party (games like American Idol and Are you smarter than a 5th grader.) Or an around the world party with food from other countries and a scavenger hunt to look for things that you could see in other counties. Also you could have a time traveling party with party favors that have stuff from different times. Or a mystery party where a person get murdered or something that got stolen and you and your friends have to find out who did it.

  421. Anne on July 15th, 2009 8:25 pm

For my 10th birthday, I had a hiking party. We went on a pretty, scenic-ish (but not difficult at all) trail at a reservation near my house. Before we left, we made crazy sandwiches (like with peanut butter, small candy pieces, bananas, whipped cream, chocolate syrup or traditional sandwiches for people who didn’t like that idea) and we told each guest to bring a water bottle or two from home. We ate by a waterfall and it was really fun and different. Then we went back to my house for cake and talking. The only thing was I could only invite a strict number of friends because my parents drove (1 parent per car) and we had to fit everybody. Also, this is not a party for younger kids – my brother copied me and did this for his 7th birthday and it was a disaster. It is also a party that depends on good weather. All in all, I think it was my favorite birthday party.

Aaryana, I am a figure skater and have “skater’s but and legs,” too! As a fellow skater, are you upset at the way they made Mia and how the books made skating seem like an easy sport – and a joke? I was. I liked the idea they were going for and all, but I think that they could have done it in a way that did our sport some justice.

I bought the town fair outfit for $94 or something. It was one of the cheapest auctions for that set I had seen in a while, and since it was buy now, I went for it and bought it after it had only been listed for a day or so. But I earn decent money and never spend much, so I treated myself. The longer you wait, the higher the prices will go up.

  422. Lily on July 15th, 2009 8:47 pm

Ugh. I wish I earned decent money.

  423. Aaryana on July 15th, 2009 8:51 pm

    Anne,

I bought Mia, and I thought her stories were cute even if they are unrealistic. I don’t know a single ten year old working on a double, even the ones who are REALLY good. Most ten year olds are just learning their axels unless they have serious talent. I think the books did make it seem easier than it is, but I also thought it put a good amount of emphasis on the competitiveness of the sport. Overall, I enjoyed them though.

  424. Aaryana on July 15th, 2009 8:55 pm

To be honest, the ten year olds who are learning axels do have serious talent. im still working on flip and toe loop and stuff. But, then, I am adult who started skating at 19.

  425. Lily on July 15th, 2009 9:36 pm

I agree. Although Mia’s books talked about how hard she worked, they kind of made figure skating seem easy. Sports can be very stressful. I know first hand as a high school cross-country runner who is always having to hit certain times and compete with dozens of other girls for very few varsity spots.

Mia’s books are the only Girl of the Year books that I’ve actually completed, although I have both Jess and Nicki. I started theirs, but got bored and never finished.

  426. Aaryana on July 15th, 2009 9:43 pm

I’ve read them both. Nicki’s book is a little slow to get started, but I liked the ending. I haven’t read Thanks to Nicki yet though. Jess’s book seemed a little childish. Her character seemed a little immature, but I guess that kind of makes sense given that she’s so far from home. I liked Jess’s story better than Nicki’s or Marisol’s. I think my favorite girl of the year story is Lindsey’s. Her’s is so well written.

  427. Lily on July 15th, 2009 9:55 pm

    I haven’t read Lindsey or Kailey’s book.

  428. Sara on July 15th, 2009 10:02 pm

I’ve read Kailey’s. It was pretty good.

  429. Anne on July 15th, 2009 10:17 pm

I haven’t read any of the GOTY’S books, though I want to read Lindsey’s. She is probably my favorite GOTY character, based on what I know about each of them.

I know a 10 year old at my rink who wants to be an Olympic champion. She might have her double axel – either that or she is very close to getting one. She is a beautiful skater with lots of potential, but the chances for even someone like her making it that far are so slim. Getting/working on a double lutz after only one year of skating, like in Mia’s book(s) is almost impossible. I liked that they made skating seem competitive (because it is) and had the rich, snobby girl (because every rink has them), but they could have made it a little more realistic. A lot more, actually. But the doll is stunning. I want to love her completely (though I only collect the historicals) but part of me just can’t.

I have been skating since I was 10 and a half, so it’s now been about 4 and a half years. I have passed novice moves, pre-prelim free, and went through bronze level of dance (for anybody who knows about the skating discipline tests). I also skated on a synchronized skating team for two years. During our second year, we became the first juvenile team from my state to qualify for nationals. That was really exciting! I liked synchro, but the “team” was not a true team and I decided to leave after that year. I am now working on my junior moves and all of my basic jumps/spins. Moves come naturally to me – I try not to rush through the tests because I feel that moves are important in order to spin and jump. They are the foundation of skating, and it is unfortunate that they are very much ignored today. I have even done some figures, and plan to focus on those, even though no one does them anymore, after I pass senior moves. People skated cleaner when forced to do figures. My hardest jump is the flip (???) and my hardest spin is the camel (again, ???). I am working on waltz jump, salchow, toe loop, flip, loop, lutz, and have started the axel. I find edge jumps easier. I recently took 6 months off of skating due to illness and mental health reasons. It was my first break since I first started skating, so I appreciated the relaxation. Feels good to be back on the ice!

  430. Lily on July 15th, 2009 10:25 pm

I completely understand needing to take some time off. I’ve taken most of the summer off from competitive running, which has helped a lot. My body was exhausted from a full school year of running and I was really hating my sport. If you don’t mind me asking, what illness and mental health reasons did you have to take time off for?

  431. Aaryana on July 15th, 2009 10:27 pm

I haven’t read Kailey’s. Either Lindsey or Chrissa is my favorite GOTY. But my favorite doll is Molly by far. I like historicals best too.

I’ve only been skating for 2 years. It’s harder to learn the jumps as an adult, but even so I’m learning. Waltz jump is easy. I’m getting better at flip. I like jumps better than spins though. I’m still struggling with one foot and scratch spins.

  432. Sara on July 15th, 2009 11:43 pm

Chrissa is definitely my fave GOTY!!

  433. AG&FAN on July 16th, 2009 12:43 am

I just looked at Julie’s holiday outfit and it said that Julie had visited a Fairmont hotel-awwww….that’s really cute; but there is 2 of them-one in Ghiradelli Square and one in Mason street. Which one do they mean…?

  434. AG&FAN on July 16th, 2009 12:44 am

It’s really cute that they relate stuff in the history-Ghiradelli,Fairmont,Kodak,and stuff like that. It is so cute!

  435. Lena on July 16th, 2009 6:31 am

AG&FAN, since Ghirardelli is mentioned so much in her story, I assume they went to that one.

Ok, today after work I’m going to get an ice cream from the Ghirardelli shop in Downtown Disney. I blame you for making me want one. (Just kidding, I’ve been looking forward to one for about a week now)

  436. Lena on July 16th, 2009 6:52 am

Ok, they go to the one on Nob Hill, so Mason Street. I was wrong.

  437. alexis on July 16th, 2009 8:06 am

Lena!!!! go to the other thread now it is important!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!(july 4)

  438. Al on July 16th, 2009 9:51 am

OMG!!!! this is the coolest set ever!

  439. Selena on July 16th, 2009 10:39 am

okkkkk… I’ve been on the barbie thread lol!!!!!!

ohhhhhhh I loooovveeee Ghiradelli!!!!!! I wish there was a store around here!!
hehe!!!!! I went to the san fran one, it was really cool, but if they had actually wanted a world famous soda fountain, they should’ve actually made a FOUNTAIN. (we just bought lotz of chocolate!!! )

  440. Lena on July 16th, 2009 10:48 am

That’s not what a soda fountain means…. but that would be so cool!!!

And its GhiraRdelli. There’s a RAR in there.

  441. Lily on July 16th, 2009 12:59 pm

It’s been 5 business days since I bought the AG doll stuff, so hopefully it’ll come tonight.

  442. alexis on July 16th, 2009 1:33 pm

oh we were going to go to theGhirardelli at Chicago while we were going to the ag place! but didn’t :-(

  443. Sara on July 16th, 2009 4:33 pm

    any1 on??

  444. Aaryana on July 16th, 2009 4:41 pm

    I’m on.

  445. Sara on July 16th, 2009 5:40 pm

    Yay!

Any1 else take a look at the link?

  446. Aaryana on July 16th, 2009 5:54 pm

I like him a lot. His kids are really cute. They seem like such a cool family.

  447. Sara on July 16th, 2009 6:52 pm

    Aaryana~ I meant this link. I forgot 2 switch again!!! Oops! :D But I do agree w/ u!!

Anyway, I will post a new 1 soon.

  448. Aaryana on July 16th, 2009 8:09 pm

Haha. Oops! Oh, I got my new AG stuff today. I got Chrissa’s Warm-Up set and the girl/doll backpack that was on sale for $8. I really only want the doll pack so I think I’m going to sell the other one on ebay.

  449. Lily on July 16th, 2009 8:31 pm

My AG stuff still isn’t here (after a week), so I think I’ll just save it to open on my birthday in a few weeks.

  450. Selena on July 16th, 2009 8:42 pm

oops ya I noticed that but, as you know, I’m pretty lazy at times :)
Ya I now that now… but when your mom says we’re gonna get to see a soda fountain… well, moms don’t normally say that!! So I assumed something different than the average soda machine (we normally call it a machine too, not a fountain, and I was 8 or something at the time…)

  451. Sara on July 16th, 2009 8:57 pm

So, Aaryana, what did u think of this link? (After I goofed up!! Oops!)

  452. Char on July 16th, 2009 9:47 pm

I haven’t forgotten all of you! My girls have had a bunch of swim meets this week so we haven’t been home much. I’ll try to get more added to the site over the weekend

    Have a great Friday.

  453. Sara on July 16th, 2009 10:15 pm

    That’s fine Char!!

    Likewise!

  454. Aaryana on July 16th, 2009 10:59 pm

    Hope they did well, Char!

And, yes, I checked out the new link. I give it two thumbs up. ^^

  455. AG&FAN on July 16th, 2009 11:32 pm

Oops,I spelled Ghirardelli wrong! I really like Julie; she’s next on my list.

And I am pretty sure Rebecca will come tomorrow or Monday. Espescially since
UPS does not work on Saturday and Sundday.

And even if you order a doll in Friday morning, they pack it up on Monday-
Saturday and Sunday is pretty much same as Friday-they are packed in
    Monday.

Last time I ordered my JLY(it was Friday night. When I ordered Rebecca it was Friday night; I ordered it really late. So it’s Saturday in central…) it came next Friday
so likely Beckie will come Friday.

  456. Sara on July 17th, 2009 12:49 am

Thnx Aaryana!! (very pretty name btw!!) I luv how Jonathan helps Alan get revenge on his sister! (Although, I don’t think Jonathan wanted 2!!) And, in Mark’s dream, how Jonathan comes out of the refrigerator!! :D Both times as a werewolf!! And, a little trivia 4 u, the movie Mark was watching, Michael Landon (Jonathan) starred in that when he was a teenager!! That’s why Mark kept saying that Jonathan looked like the guy in the movie! (“When he’s a real guy not when he’s got the fuzz all over his face!”)

AG&FAN~ Whenever I kno an AG doll is coming in the mail soon, I get very impatient!! :D

  457. alexis on July 17th, 2009 6:10 am

sorry guys i cant talk later today my party is tommorow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I………..Am…………….Nervous!!!!!!!!!

  458. alexis on July 17th, 2009 6:10 am

sorry guys i cant talk later today my party is tommorow!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  459. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:39 am

You know, AG&FAN, whoever paid for it recieved a confirmation email, and thayt email has a shipping code. You can check where your pakage is by putting that code into the UPS site…. I think, I know I always track my pakages and know when I’ll get them.

  460. Holly on July 17th, 2009 8:44 am

lena, didnt u say once u do taekwondo?

  461. Lily on July 17th, 2009 9:00 am

I never got a confirmation email/tracking number, probably because I bought the stuff at the store.

  462. Lily on July 17th, 2009 9:05 am

Those daily spotlight savings on the AG website are worthless. Today it’s a pair of bitty baby shoes and pants for girls. How about a doll outfit once in a blue moon?

  463. Aaryana on July 17th, 2009 9:40 am

Thanks, Sara! It’s not my real name, but probably what I’ll name my first daughter when I have kids someday. I might even spell it the same way. Who knows?

  464. Sara on July 17th, 2009 9:49 am

Oh, ok. Ya, u never kno!! :)

What did u think of that little bit of trivia?

  465. Sitara on July 17th, 2009 9:59 am

    Welcome, Aaryana! :)

Lily & Lena~My mother indeed wanted me to be Indian and not American. She’s very nationalistic about India even though it has a LOT of problems. (Yes, I’ve been there many times, and no, I’m not one of those people who says that the US is #1 no matter what).

When I was a little girl I wasn’t spoken to in English at all–only in Hindi, the Indian language. I had to pick up English on my own, when I was 3.

I really hate being in India, though. Some of it is because of the pollution but a lot of it is because my mother’s family is like the epitome of dysfunctional and I don’t like them at all. And random men in the streets give me weird looks, and women aren’t allowed to go out of the house gates alone.

(Please note that my experience is tinted by my mother’s family; I don’t think everyone going to India will have an experience as bad as this.)

Sorry for the rant/long post/whining–I’m upset because my mother wants us to go for nearly all December, and I will have to miss a lot of school. And I know this is nerdy, but I love school.

    ~Sitara

  466. Lena on July 17th, 2009 10:06 am

Holly, yes, I take tae kwon do. I’m getting ready to take my purple belt test.

Sitara, I know all about that. Compared to my friend Nashmin, who’s Pakistani, you didn’t complain much. Her family’s much worse (I do get religious differences though Hindu =/= Muslim)

  467. Holly on July 17th, 2009 10:09 am

cool lena!!! im just starting (white belt…) but, give me about two years and i will be about a black belt if i pass each testing. do you have any idea where the next national tournament will be at?

  468. Lily on July 17th, 2009 10:10 am

Is she even allowed to take you out of school for so much time when it’s not even a family emergency? I understand wanting to go to school, Sitara. School kind of used to be fun for me. Of course, that hasn’t been the case for the past 5 years, but I still understand! I hope you get your way.

  469. Lena on July 17th, 2009 10:16 am

No clue about tournaments, I’ll need to ask my friends when i go tommorrow.

It takes 3 years to reach black belt….. I’m done with 1…..

  470. Sara on July 17th, 2009 10:17 am

New link!! These are bloopers from Highway to Heaven. They are incredibly funny!!!!! Check it out by clicking my name!!!

  471. Holly on July 17th, 2009 10:29 am

thanks lena. theres 6 tests a yr, so mayb ill reach it by 2011

  472. Lena on July 17th, 2009 10:39 am

Well, each belt has only 1 test, until you reach brown. That has 2, and red has 4. Then you have to do all your forms and break a cement block with your fist. Fun.

It will take you 3 years. So you’ll make it to black in 2012.

  473. Holly on July 17th, 2009 10:43 am

o joy…. lol…. any idea on 2 help me with my 1 steps?

  474. Lena on July 17th, 2009 11:35 am

Practice. Practice a lot. It gets easier as you go along beacuse they build on each other – I’m on taiga 1, wich builds on poomse kicho set.

You’re on poomse kicho hana, yes? That one’s very simple, only 8 steps. Practice when you get a spare moment, and ask higher belts to help you if you don’t get something, ot just watch you practice and point out your flaws. They all did it, and they should know it.

  475. Lena on July 17th, 2009 11:40 am

Sorry, I meant taiga il-jung. My teacher calls them taiga 1 and so on beacuse he’s lazy.

  476. Holly on July 17th, 2009 1:10 pm

thnx. and i could get mrs.pak maybe to help me after class.

  477. Sara on July 17th, 2009 1:34 pm

Any1 see the newest link I posted?

  478. Lily on July 17th, 2009 3:28 pm

I found a Craigslist listing in which a girl is selling her American Girl dolls and all of their furniture and outfits. Based on the rampant spelling mistakes, I would say she’s no older than 8 or 9. Poor kid.

    “exceseries”
    “excesseries”
    “exsamples”
    “differant”
    “Josephina”
    “variouse”
    “in cluding”
    “barly”
    “pakage”
    “cattalog”

  479. Chloe on July 17th, 2009 3:32 pm

Hey! Be sure to check my blog! There’s a new poll if anybody’s interested…

  480. Lena on July 17th, 2009 3:38 pm

Lily, i’d like to point out that even on here people make the mistake of “Josephina”

  481. Lily on July 17th, 2009 3:59 pm

I probably shouldn’t have included the Josefina error, but that doesn’t excuse the rest of the terrible misspellings.

  482. Lena on July 17th, 2009 4:01 pm

Yes, you’re absolutly right. I mean, parents should at least do a spell check, if the computer doesn’t do it automatically (mine does, not sure who else has this)

  483. Lily on July 17th, 2009 4:22 pm

A kid of such an obvious young age shouldn’t even be selling on Craigslist. Her parents should be making the listing if she cannot even spell the word “barely” correctly.

  484. Lily on July 17th, 2009 4:27 pm

Apparently, my AG order came in two days ago, but my mom hid the box. She won’t give it to me until I get rid of all of the clothes in my closet that don’t fit. I *hate* doing that . . . and I hate when parents do stuff like that.

  485. Lily on July 17th, 2009 4:28 pm

Here’s a couple other Craigslist errors I’ve found. They’re kind of funny.

    Atty (Addy)
    Kirstie (Kirsten)

  486. Lena on July 17th, 2009 5:04 pm

I’ve seen a Josefina (they did spell her name right) and a few lines later, they called her “Josie”. Its a pretty name, but obviously they didn’t read her book (sad, because they were selling her with it)

    I’ve also seen:
    Fulisity (Felicity)
    Marsal (Marisol)

    This one wins though.
That native American one (Kaya, who was being sold with “Meet Kaya”)

  487. Sara on July 17th, 2009 5:13 pm

Wow! That’s kinda funny tho. (the spelling errors)

  488. Sara on July 17th, 2009 5:16 pm

Holly, if u haven’t been on the Doll Crafts post, Char closed the comments (prolly cause u and I r the only ones on there!!)

  489. AG&FAN on July 17th, 2009 5:48 pm

Oh… wow… I will NEVER EVER spell any of the characters wrong-in fact,I memorized their first, and last name(it’s easy if you try; and read them).

    Kaya’aton’my
    Felicity Merriman/Elizabeth Cole
    Josefina Montoya
    Kirsten Larson.
    Addy Walker.
    Samantha Parkington/Nellie ‘O Malley.
    Rebecca Rubin.
    (Margaret Mildred)Kit Kittredge/(Ruth Anne)Ruthie Smithens
    Molly McIntire/Emily Bennett
    Julie Albright/Ivy Ling

Lindsey Bergman(weird last name…but I heard she is Jewish.)
    Kaily Hopkins
    Marisol Luna
    Jess Akiko McConnell
    Nicki Flemmings.
    Mia St.Clair
    Chrissa Marie Maxwell
    Gwen Thompson
    Sonali Matthews

  490. AG&FAN on July 17th, 2009 5:50 pm

    It is really easy if you read every single AG book;

    Yes,I have 3 Rebecca books beside me but I didn’t look inside;
except the fact that I googled Emily Bennett (doll) so I can be sure of her name-
but that’s it…I am pretty sure that almost everyone here can spell AG character’s
    names…

  491. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:00 pm

“I will NEVER EVER spell any of the characters wrong” . . . that’s kind of ironic, AG&FAN, because right after you wrote that you said Nicki’s last name was “Flemmings”. It’s actually Fleming.

  492. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:01 pm

And you spelled Kailey’s name wrong

  493. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:06 pm

And Josefina’s name is Maria Josefina Montoya.

  494. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:08 pm

And “Bergman” isin’t very odd. I know at least 2 different Bergman families.

Also, O’Malley has an ‘ between the O and M.

  495. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:09 pm

    Very ironic ;)

  496. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:10 pm

We’re just picking poor AG&FAN apart, aren’t we Lena?

  497. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:12 pm

    Yeah, we are.

But now that we corrected her, she can start using the propper spelling, right AG&FAN? (My attempt at being nice…. not working huh?)

  498. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:12 pm

I guess the moral of the story is to not make claims (in ALL CAPS) that you can’t substantiate.

  499. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:13 pm

I wish my mom hadn’t hid my dolls without even telling me that they came. I wasn’t going to open them, but it still ticks me off that she’s holding them hostage.

  500. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:16 pm

Maybe we weren’t being especially nice, but we were being very helpful. Live and learn . . . and don’t lie!

  501. Aaryana on July 17th, 2009 6:18 pm

I used to have my mom make spelling quizzes for me for the AG dolls’ names. I wanted to make sure I knew how to spell every one correctly and that I knew their whole name. Aaryana=Nerd. I know. :D

  502. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:19 pm

I have an excuse for not being nice. I just spent 5 hours watching a certain show (that I won’t name).

  503. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:20 pm

So…. there’s nothing wrong with being nerdy!!

(has secret plans to turn 26 into Lt Uhura… shhhhhh don’t tell)

  504. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:20 pm

Why not? And I have an excuse because I’m bitter over having my dolls hidden!

  505. AG&FAN on July 17th, 2009 6:20 pm

    Oooops,sorry about those; I mean,I wouldn’t call anyone like that…Sorry about Fleming,too,b/c I thought it was Fleming then I changed my mind;

And Kaily; I forgot to put e on even though I knew.

*And since AG calls Josefina a Josefina; not Maria,I choose to name her
    Josefina here(I didn’t even know,though*

  506. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:21 pm

Star Trek? That’s just a shot in the dark.

  507. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:22 pm

    Yes…. Star Trek…. my nerdy weakness…..

  508. AG&FAN on July 17th, 2009 6:23 pm

Lena, how many AG dolls do you have? It’s kinda confusing sometimes….

I know how many dolls Lily has since she posted their names(I say she’s
expert collector like Lena and Aaryana, since she knows so much. I don’t know any others; maybe Pioneerfan?)

  509. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:24 pm

Because that show is not very family friendly, and I know Char likes to keep this site family friendly. I’m just using that as an excuse for being rude.

  510. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:25 pm

    I have:

    Samantha
Sonali (Will be sold in 2010)
    Zoey (Kit)
    Helena (Rebecca)
    Kirsten

  511. AG&FAN on July 17th, 2009 6:26 pm

I like the fact that everyone’s helpful around here…

  512. Lena on July 17th, 2009 6:29 pm

I’m flattered that you think of me as an “expert collector”

  513. AG&FAN on July 17th, 2009 6:39 pm

    Lots of people are expert in this website because the collected AG for long times;

    Oh,and I found Samantha for $55. She is wearing a hospital gown,includes
Sam’s book and couple of other outfits. Do you think it’s a good deal?
If so,I’ll post a website here,

  514. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:40 pm

Same here. Thanks, AG&FAN! After you buy the dolls for so many years, you learn a lot about them, whether intentional or not.

  515. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:41 pm

It depends on the outfits. If they’re authentic AG outfits, I’d say so.

  516. Lily on July 17th, 2009 6:53 pm

Lena, so why do you rename your dolls? I already asked you about Rebecca/Helena, but not Kit’s transition into Zoey.

  517. AG&FAN on July 17th, 2009 7:11 pm

I wouldn’t rename my dolls;probably. But it’s cool idea to rename dolls.

    Infact,my JLY dosen’t even have a name!

Do you have any good name for my doll? She is #32 or 3rd one by popularity list.

  518. Lena on July 17th, 2009 7:50 pm

I rename them because I like to give them their own character (they do pretend to be the “real” character once in a while)

Also, be careful about Sam. There is a JLY that looks almost exactly like her. The JLY has no curls and pinwhele eyes, while Sam has decals.

  519. AG&FAN on July 17th, 2009 8:12 pm

Agree with you,Lena. Telling that JLY #12 is Gwen when Gwen retires-sooo not
worth money because you can buy JLY #12 even after when Gwen retires

  520. Lily on July 17th, 2009 8:40 pm

Pinwheel eyes versus decals? Please explain, Lena! I really don’t want to get ripped off someday.

  521. Lena on July 17th, 2009 8:52 pm

Decal, are a sticker. Just a plain sticker with eye details. Rebecca (and all Hazel eye dolls) also has this eye.

Pinwheel is what most dolls have (Kit, Sonali, and kirsten have this). It is kinda like a pinwheel, where you can visibly tell that there’s layers.

  522. Lily on July 17th, 2009 8:59 pm

You’re right. I know Felicity has the decal eyes since they’re a strange electric shade of green. Molly has the pinwheel type (muted gray). I guess the pinwheels are for monochrome eyes, while AG uses decals to create more vibrant, multi-colored eyes.

  523. Lena on July 17th, 2009 9:09 pm

Yes, Lissie’s eyes are the decal type, Molly has pinwheel.

BTW, the only dolls with brown decals are Ivy and Sam. Random AG fact.

  524. Lily on July 17th, 2009 9:12 pm

I bet American Girl made that AGT doll’s eyes different from Samantha’s on purpose. I’m sure that has helped the doll hospital identify dolls when the doll’s hair is cut short.

  525. Lily on July 17th, 2009 9:13 pm

I’ve kind of always noticed that their eyes look different, but I never really thought anything of it.

  526. Lena on July 17th, 2009 9:26 pm

Yes, originaly there were dolls that looked like each of the characters, with slight differences (eyes, earrings, bangs, shorter hair)

  527. Lily on July 17th, 2009 9:41 pm

When I was little, my doll was “Kirsten” because she had the same color of hair and eyes. I wonder why I got an AGT doll. They’re so . . . generic, compared to the historical characters. To this day I wish I had asked for Felicity and her town fair outfit instead.

  528. Lily on July 17th, 2009 10:09 pm

I never see Felicity’s town fair outfit with the windmill. I know it was fragile, but I *never* see it with the rest of the outfit. Surely more than a few scarce people took decent care of it. I wonder how much that outfit would go for NRFB?

  529. Georgia on July 17th, 2009 11:13 pm

why does everyone write NRFB? i thought it was NIB but they’re the same thing, right?

  530. Lily on July 17th, 2009 11:26 pm

They’re not the same thing, although very similar.

NRFB (never removed from box) means just that: the item has never been taken out of its original packaging.

NIB (new in box) is an item that looks new, but has been removed from its original packaging and then put back.

  531. Lily on July 17th, 2009 11:30 pm

Poor Anne. She paid $94 for the town fair outfit without the cap, and this past week the outfit *with* the cap sold for $75. Same for Lena’s bunk bed. She paid somewhere in the $40 range last month and now those things are going for peanuts. I’ve done the same thing before (mostly on books). We did nothing wrong and we can’t control it.

  532. Georgia on July 17th, 2009 11:59 pm

I thought new in box meant that it had never been out of it’s box b4 and it was new…. but anyway.

  533. Lily on July 18th, 2009 12:22 am

It must be tough to catch us at a good time since your time zone is about 12 hours ahead of central time, Georgia. For me, it’s 12:23 am! I should be going to bed . . . and you’re probably eating lunch! :)

  534. Aaryana on July 18th, 2009 12:27 am

I am also flattered to be considered an expert in the AG field. Thanks! It comes with collecting for so many years and being truly curious about how the dolls are made. I’ve done a lot of research over the past few years.

  535. Georgia on July 18th, 2009 12:31 am

It is trricky to catch people. I always try to get on in the morning(here) so that it is a good time for you guys!

  536. Aaryana on July 18th, 2009 12:43 am

It’s really late for me. But, then, I have the joys of no curfew or bedtime! So, I’m usually on this time of day.

  537. Sara on July 18th, 2009 1:57 am

Ya, almost 2 am here! Then again, I’ve stayed up all night twice. It was w/ my youth group 4 our lock ins (but this past year, my youth leader was sick!)

  538. Holly on July 18th, 2009 9:34 am

    sara, yes i did realize.

lena, i did pretty good on my white belt 1 steps!!! :-)

  539. Lily on July 18th, 2009 9:44 am

A lot of the time I’m the last one up on this site because all of the east coast people have already turned in for the night. During the school year, that will change . . . I wish I was homeschooled sometimes. No waking up ridiculously early, nutty coaches, or sitting in classrooms for 7 hours. Dream on!

  540. Lena on July 18th, 2009 12:50 pm

Lily, my PE is tae kwon do. Trust me…. Master West loves to makes us do pointless things. Even pointless to tae kwon do.

Congrats Holly! Do that durring your test and you’ll make it to yellow belt in no time.

  541. Lily on July 18th, 2009 1:03 pm

Our athletic situations are different, so I’m not the one to judge.

  542. Holly on July 18th, 2009 1:18 pm

thnx lena!! i do agree tkd is definately p.e!!

  543. Lena on July 18th, 2009 1:40 pm

I took the black belt class today (cause they are my friends and the forced me) Holly, you’re lucky you are still a white belt.

  544. Holly on July 18th, 2009 2:37 pm

im just gonna take my precious time, and make sure i have everything known by heart. ur lucky to be almost a black belt!! i cant wait to be that far, what an honor!!

  545. Al on July 18th, 2009 2:48 pm

    Hi! <3

  546. Al on July 18th, 2009 2:49 pm

that’s a heart but it doesn’t look like one! hehehehhehehe
    :D

  547. Al on July 18th, 2009 2:53 pm

    hello? anyone there?!?!?!?! hehehe :D
Lena by what you type on here you seem like a REALLY nice person same thing to Taelyn! wow Taelyn you must have had a fun 11th b-day!!!

  548. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:06 pm

I have been to the Ag b&b in atlanta it’s really cool! also the place in newyork! it was a lot of fun! any one else been there? please talk to me no one does because I’m new.

  549. Lena on July 18th, 2009 3:16 pm

Holly, I’m only green belt (2 years to go), but I took black belt class because all my friends are black belts.

Thank you Al! I’ve never been to Atlanta, but I’ve been to NYC a few times. Its cool, but it annoys me the historicals seem so unimportant in the stores.

  550. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:30 pm

Hey Lena do you live in or near Atlanta cause it’s seems you go there a lot!(to go to the agd b&b) I love the historical characters so much and your right they do seem unimportant in the stores. What a shame! I am so glad I won Rebecca! she’s my favorite! out of my 7.if you don’t have her it’s worth getting her! nice to actually talk to some one!
    Al :D

  551. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:31 pm

    this website is cool! :p

  552. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:32 pm

    Hey, Al!You won Rebecca? How?

  553. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:32 pm

:D HELLO?????!!!!!!!!! any one home? hehehehe

  554. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:34 pm

I won her at Barnes and noble

  555. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:34 pm

I just filled out a form, they had one Rebecca for every b+n

  556. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:35 pm

sorry I wrote hello anyone home I didn’t see your comment! hehehehe :D

  557. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:35 pm

You’re pretty lucky! The odds of winning are very small. Lena and I both bought her.

  558. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:36 pm

but now i am wondering if anyone’s there?!

  559. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:37 pm

Of course, I haven’t opened my Rebecca yet because my mom is hiding the box until I clean out my closet. I’m waiting for my birthday in a few weeks anyway.

  560. Lena on July 18th, 2009 3:37 pm

Not every store was participating though.

I live in Orlando FL, 7 hours drive from Atlanta. I’ve actually never been there, I’e been in NY a lot because I have friends there.

  561. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:37 pm

    I’m here.

  562. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:37 pm

    you are there! soooo sorry!

  563. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:38 pm

I remember I entered into a Samantha & Nellie contest several years ago. Last year I saw a contest for Kit & Ruthie at Books-a-Million.

  564. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:39 pm

I know the chances were tiney tiny! but I filled 1/3 of the packet though so the chances were a tiny bit bigger. LOL

  565. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:40 pm

yah, me too! but I didn’t think at the time for kit and ruthie to fill out more forms!

  566. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:41 pm

So, in reality, you had the odds of winning of several dozen people combined? I’ve considered it, but never got the guts in a store full of people. Maybe next year!

  567. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:42 pm

it’s nice now to make friends on here because I am new here.

  568. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:42 pm

    Although it’s not very honest . . .

  569. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:42 pm

Well, I can sacrifice a hair of honesty to save myself over $100.

  570. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:44 pm

yah I am crazy like that! :D lol!!!! I took some and then some more and filled them out at home and brought them back to the store the last day of the drawing! I’ve got nerve! LOL :D

  571. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:45 pm

Hmm . . . that’s on my priority list next year now.

  572. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:45 pm

well it never said how many you could put…. hehehe :D

  573. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:46 pm

so technically i wasn’t lying at all!

  574. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:47 pm

Well, it’s kind of like Halloween candy. Some people set a bowl on their front porch. You can take more than one, but then people after you don’t get any candy.

  575. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:47 pm

GOOD i sorta put something on your list!

  576. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:48 pm

    Any thoughts, Lena?

  577. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:49 pm

i know but think about it, lots of people DID do what I did for the same contest so it wasn’t just me.

  578. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:50 pm

    I don’t think she’s here right now. :( sorry

  579. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:50 pm

I’m sure that for every other store (or more) people did what you did.

  580. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:51 pm

Well, I’m going to go eat a snack now. Bye!

  581. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:51 pm

hey are you older than 11? you don’t have to answer because what if you were 6 years older than me that would be weird to talk to some one that much older!

  582. Al on July 18th, 2009 3:52 pm

    buh bye then!

  583. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:52 pm

Heck, I may take 70% of the entry forms. Because even if you take 1/3 (like you did), the odds of you winning are only 33%.

  584. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:53 pm

No, I’m not 11 and I’m not 6 years older than you. Close, though. Let’s just say that I’m taking Chemistry and Algebra II next year.

  585. Lily on July 18th, 2009 3:54 pm

Well, goodbye for real this time!

  586. Lena on July 18th, 2009 4:09 pm

I’ll be 6 years older than that in September.

Yeah, it is kinda dishonest…. then again, I know 40+ year old who do it (yes, they are doll collectors)

  587. Lily on July 18th, 2009 4:16 pm

If you can’t beat them, join them. My reasoning is that if the doll doesn’t go to me, it has a good chance of going to some spoiled kid. The kids who can’t afford dolls and who deserve the chance to win a free one generally aren’t hopping around a higher-end bookstore.

  588. Lily on July 18th, 2009 4:17 pm

Yeah, Lena is two years older and one grade ahead of me in school (if you’re wondering, Al).

  589. Lena on July 18th, 2009 4:36 pm

Yup. I never said I don’t do dishonest things like that. I went around and submitted 2 forms to Barne & Nobles, Borders, and Books-a-Million. I still lost.

  590. Lily on July 18th, 2009 4:52 pm

I’m going to have to find a Barnes and Noble nearby so I can enter next time. I have no idea where the closest one is. But when I enter, I’m going to take all but a few of the forms from the stack.

  591. Holly on July 18th, 2009 5:55 pm

the closest person on here to my age is lily. ive got algebra this year…UGH!!!

  592. Holly on July 18th, 2009 5:56 pm

i had it last year too, but this year will be harder

  593. Lily on July 18th, 2009 6:20 pm

At your school, do take Algebra I, Algebra II, then Geometry?

  594. Lily on July 18th, 2009 6:33 pm

Or did you just finish taking Pre-Algebra and now you’re taking the real thing?

  595. Holly on July 18th, 2009 6:37 pm

this year is algebra I for me.

  596. Lena on July 18th, 2009 6:47 pm

Lily, it goes Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II (aka Trigonometry), and then Calculus.

Trigonometry takes elements from both algebra and geometry.

    Bleh…. I have trig this year…

  597. Lily on July 18th, 2009 7:07 pm

Lena, it goes differently around the country. Sometimes Algebra II is taken before Geometry. And since you take online school, it probably differs even more.

    For me:

Algebra I, Geometry, Algebra II, Pre-Cal, Calculus

Like I said before, I’m in Algebra II.

  598. Holly on July 18th, 2009 7:22 pm

i spend u luck lena!!! lol

  599. Lena on July 18th, 2009 7:28 pm

That’s how it went at my old REAL school. The sold concrete one that I don’t go to anymore.

  600. Lily on July 18th, 2009 7:32 pm

Did you ever go to a REAL high school?

  601. Lena on July 18th, 2009 7:36 pm

Yes, I did my freshman year.

  602. alexis on July 18th, 2009 8:08 pm

hey guys my party is over so i can talk now my friend got me the wilderness outfit for my JLY doll crystal (blond hair blue eyes)

  603. Lily on July 18th, 2009 8:19 pm

Lena, do you know how to restore Nicki’s curls if her hair has been brushed like regular hair? Maybe I should try steaming it? Don’t worry, it’s not my Nicki. I have never brushed her hair.

  604. Anne on July 18th, 2009 8:47 pm

    That’s cool, alexis!

  605. Anne on July 18th, 2009 8:48 pm

I saw a raffle for a Kit and Ruthie collection set at a B&N last year but I was in my non[fan stage and didn’t enter (I don’t want either of them anyway, though I once did a long time ago, so I don’t regret it).

  606. Anne on July 18th, 2009 8:50 pm

I took algebra 1 this year. I will be a sophomore in September, and since I am home schooled, I am not really sure what type of math I will be taking next year. I think I am going to take it at the community college but I am not sure what branch of math it will be.

  607. Anne on July 18th, 2009 8:53 pm

My stomach feels so gross…my mom, brother and I ate out at a local diner. I had a bean and veggie salad that they give you for free when you come for dinner, and pancakes with a side of egg whites and water. And them my brother and I ran home a mile. On a full stomach. We did it, hill and all, in about 10 minutes, which wasn’t too bad. My current best mile time is 7:30 (and I

  608. Anne on July 18th, 2009 8:53 pm

    (and I’m not a runner).

  609. Lily on July 18th, 2009 8:55 pm

    That’s a pretty good time, Anne. My best mile time is 5:51 . . . but I am a runner ;)

Anne, could you help me with Nicki’s hair? I’m trying to restore it and I’m not entirely sure what to do.

  610. Anne on July 18th, 2009 9:22 pm

Hmmm… I’m no expert on this, but I am going to try it on Sam (even though her curls are different). OK, so I read this on AG Playthings and someone said that they had put curls in Sam’s hair (loose curls) by steaming the hair with an iron (the way I steamed mine) and then steamed parts of hair while they were wrapped loosely around a curling iron that was not on (no heat besides the steam). She posted pictures and they looked great. I would imagine that you can just wrap the hair tighter around the curling iron to make Nicki’s curls, but this is only a suggestion. I don’t know how it works.

5:51 – Wow, that’s amazing! Only one parson in my old school (middle school) got in the 5’s. I was the second-fastest girl in my gym class last year when I set that record. She got it in the 7:10’s and 6:50’s. Actually, my best was 7:26, but that’s so close to 7:30 that I just rounded it off.

  611. Anne on July 18th, 2009 9:23 pm

Who does the Nicki doll belong to, Lily?

Actually, I am not that fast – I can just keep running without slowing down much. Once I’m in the zone, it is harder for me to stop and take a breather (which I don’t need, anyway) then to just keep going.

  612. Aaryana on July 18th, 2009 9:25 pm

Wow! I feel old now. I just realized when I was some of you girls’ ages, you weren’t even born! Old lady power!!!!

I know someone who entered a bunch of times in that contest. Another girl won then complained because she already had the doll. I felt bad for my little friend because her family isn’t wealthy. She really wanted the doll. I would much rather have seen the doll go to my friend than the other kid that has everything, honestly.

  613. Anne on July 18th, 2009 9:28 pm

I am built like a skater (which is good because I am one) – big butt, legs, and reasonable upper body strength. But I am only 5 feet, which is a disadvantage, because my strides aren’t very big. I remember a few NYC Marathons ago, a woman who was 5 ft from Ethiopia came in second place. That was cool because she is short, like me, and some of my cousins (3 of them) are adopted from Ethiopia. It came down to her and Paula Radcliffe, I think, (spelling?), who looked like a giant next to her! Paula (I think it was her) beat her out in the very end.

  614. Anne on July 18th, 2009 9:30 pm

A lot of AG customers, I think, are spoiled. Not anyone on here, but a lot of little girl customers seem to be. It is sad to see people who want an AG but can’t afford one.

Why would she enter if she already had the doll?

  615. Lena on July 18th, 2009 9:33 pm

Lily, you can fix Nicki curls with your fingers and water. twist around your finger, spray with water, and let go. That’s how I fix Helena’s hair.

I entered to make an eBay profit. Free doll + eBay = at least $60.

  616. Anne on July 18th, 2009 9:39 pm

Does Helena’s hair look like-new doing that, Lena? I am only asking because I plan to get her for my birthday in 2011.

  617. Anne on July 18th, 2009 9:42 pm

I am thinking of getting an AG doll in a yard sale for cheap, fixing her up, and selling her for a profit. I only hesitate because I don’t want to get attached to the doll.

I have started making clothes for my AG’S. My current project is a work dress for Nellie. My friend makes clothes for her dolls, and even though I hate sewing, the idea appeals to me. She convinced me.

  618. Aaryana on July 18th, 2009 9:42 pm

My little friend asked her why she entered. She said she didn’t remember that she already had the doll. Then she said, “Oh, I guess I’ll have twins,” and put the doll box in her little brother’s stroller. It made me mad.

  619. Lena on July 18th, 2009 9:44 pm

    Her curls are like new.

I want to buy a cheap fixer upper on eBay and make a boy doll.

  620. Lily on July 18th, 2009 10:22 pm

I found a Nicki doll (with an extra outfit) at a garage sale for a really good deal ($65). Before I resell her, I want to fix up her hair since she was played with. Most little girls ruin Nicki’s hair by running through it with a regular brush. My cousin proudly showed my how well she took care of Nicki’s hair one time, and it was awful.

I agree that a lot of girls who have AG dolls are spoiled. They’re high end play dolls, so it’s bound to happen. Sure, I have 14 of them, but that’s after 10 years of buying them. I wish that girls whose families couldn’t afford the dolls would win those contests every time.

  621. Lily on July 18th, 2009 10:38 pm

Thanks for the Nicki advice, everyone! When I’m done with her, hopefully she’ll have some nice bouncy curls. I shouldn’t get attached to her since I already have my own Nicki . . . with all curls intact!

  622. Lily on July 18th, 2009 10:40 pm

And I think it’s ridiculous that a kid would forget that she already has a certain doll. That’s a true sign of being spoiled. I took my cousin’s Kit doll several years ago and she never noticed she was gone for the one month I had her (I gave her back, obviously ;) )

  623. Aaryana on July 18th, 2009 11:06 pm

I have twelve dolls. Plus a Bitty Baby. And, I’ve collected for 14.5 years. That’s not even one doll a year. I don’t consider myself spoiled. The times I got dolls as gifts, that was all i got other than new clothes for myself that I “needed”.

  624. Georgia on July 19th, 2009 12:27 am

I have three ag’s and i probably won’t end up with anymore until i start earning my own money. I bought my Kit doll with money from christmases and birthdays and my parents bought me Julie(for christmas) and ordered Rebecca.

  625. Aaryana on July 19th, 2009 12:48 am

Good morning, Georgia! I have gotten all my dolls as Christmas or birthday presents as well. Chrissa was purchased using Christmas money, much to my mother’s dismay. However, she agreed, it’s my money, not hers.

  626. Sara on July 19th, 2009 7:26 am

I don’t consider myself spoiled either (although I do have 17 dolls including Bitty Twins and one Baby!)

  627. Bookworm on July 19th, 2009 7:59 am

This is the way I got all my dolls:

    1. Samantha- Christmas present

    2. Kit- Money I earned from a fiddle contest

    3. Mia- Birthday present

    4. Marisol- Money I earned from a fiddle contest

    5. Felicity- Christmas present

    6. Chrissa- Birthday present

    7. Rebecca- I payed 50 for her with some fiddle contest money, and my mom payed the other half. ( I was REALLY sick. Like REALLY sick. I’ve been sick for practically all my life… not gonna say say what I have.)

Plus I have one bitty baby I bought with more fiddle money, and one bitty twin I got for Christmas.

  628. Sara on July 19th, 2009 11:05 am

Same here. I mostly get my dolls as Christmas presents. Some I got w/ my own money, but Chrissa was a surprise gift from my dad.

And, I’m very sad now cause my very very best friend has moved away!!!!!!! :( :( I miss her like crazy!!!!!

  629. Bookworm on July 19th, 2009 12:33 pm

I’m sorry you’re sad about your friend, Sara! I just moved, so I know what it feels like to miss a friend. : )

  630. Lily on July 19th, 2009 1:02 pm

Okay, it looks like I’m not going to get Nicki anymore. Someone got her first. I’m mad at the seller because she sold her this morning after she said that she would give me priority because I asked for her first. Thank you for the tips, though!

  631. pioneerfan04 on July 19th, 2009 1:46 pm

i’m moving too!!! but i really dont care and im excited, cuz all my friends at my old school moved except 4 1, and shes boring. my 3 other bffs live in a different state, different country, and different city. i know. i have friends spread out all over. ;) so i’m excited. random, i know, but bookworm and sara were on the subject of moving.

  632. Al on July 19th, 2009 1:56 pm

OMG! I need help which one:
JLY doll (dark brown hair bangs blue eyes)
    or
    Chrissa?
    Please tell me which one!

  633. Al on July 19th, 2009 1:59 pm

    anyone there?

  634. Al on July 19th, 2009 1:59 pm

    hello? :D

  635. Lilly Hazel on July 19th, 2009 2:13 pm

    hello!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! : D

  636. Lena on July 19th, 2009 2:33 pm

Is it sad that I can tell which by number, but not by general description?

I’d get Chrissa. If you don’t like her, you can sell on eBay and get a JLY.

  637. Lena on July 19th, 2009 2:36 pm

Is it sad that I can tell which JLY by number, but not by general description?

  638. Aaryana on July 19th, 2009 2:51 pm

Lena, I can’t say that is sad because I sometimes do the same thing!

  639. Lily on July 19th, 2009 2:54 pm

I don’t really even care about the JLY dolls enough to memorize their numbers. I know that the doll that was bought to look like me is 3, but that’s it!

  640. Lena on July 19th, 2009 3:05 pm

I memorized them because I’m just that way. If I ever do buy one (again) she’ll become historical.

See, like if you tell me you want the one with blue eyes and blonde hair, I think wait…. there’s like four of those (I’m pretty sure), and if you tell me oh I want 27, I instantly know who that is.

  641. Lily on July 19th, 2009 3:10 pm

It’s kind of funny that there are four blond hair, blue-eyed dolls. The JLY collection is disproportionate as far as hair/eye color goes, I think. The blonds pretty much mimic Barbie (especially the two platinum blonds).

  642. Aaryana on July 19th, 2009 3:16 pm

I would love to have a JLY that has green eyes, freckles, and short or wavy/curly red hair. That was what I looked like as a child.

  643. Lily on July 19th, 2009 3:24 pm

I like that idea! I wonder why AG has no true red-headed dolls. Felicity used to be a redhead, but now she and the rest of the JLY dolls have auburn hair.

  644. Anne on July 19th, 2009 3:26 pm

That would be so pretty! I think a lot of the JLY dolls look generic – not all that much variation.

  645. Lily on July 19th, 2009 3:36 pm

Personally, I think many of them look like Barbies. JLY dolls are so generic. They have no story, nothing special that sets them apart from each other. Never again will I buy one.

The two AGT dolls that I have from the 1990’s sat in boxes for about 8 years until I sent them to the doll hospital for new heads. Now with their new leases on life, they’re very pretty to look at. I wish AG would release better outfits. All of the good ones from around 2005-2007 are now retired.

  646. Lily on July 19th, 2009 3:54 pm

I know girls want a doll that looks like them, but I think My Twinn dolls are even better in that category. They’re so big and it’s fun to find handmade outfits for them.

  647. Lena on July 19th, 2009 4:30 pm

Cept most Americans are lazy and they just buy the premade AG cloths.

  648. Lily on July 19th, 2009 4:36 pm

I guess I’m not the average American. When I wanted colonial outifts for My Twinn dolls, I asked several eBay sellers who made girl and AG doll sized colonial dresses if they would do it for me.

Pretty soon, I plan on buying some My Twinn sized clothes from dollcloset.etsy.com. I found out about her shop on this site awhile ago and I love some of her designs. When my dolls are dressed, I’ll send in photos to this site. First, I want a red-headed My Twinn doll with green eyes . . .

  649. Lena on July 19th, 2009 4:43 pm

I actually make the clothes myself. Well, some of them. I almost have my non-existant boy doll’s first outfit (Two Hawks’s)

  650. Aaryana on July 19th, 2009 4:45 pm

I like to make clothes for my dolls also. I’m not that great at sewing, but I do buy pre-made doll size shirts and decorate them.

  651. Lena on July 19th, 2009 4:49 pm

I grew up in rural Poland, so when I was little I was sewing pillow cases and stuff.

Fashion designer is one of my (many) dream jobs, so practicing making doll clothes is a good way to start. Plus…. mini fashion models!

  652. Lily on July 19th, 2009 4:51 pm

Yeah, I’m not really into making the clothes myself. It’s hard to find decent enough fabric at Hobby Lobby (the only place remotely nearby). I have no problem with shelling out $15 to get custom made outftits made with designer fabrics.

  653. Lily on July 19th, 2009 4:52 pm

I’m considering selling all of the doll clothes that I bought from My Twinn. For the most part, they aren’t very attractive.

  654. Al on July 19th, 2009 6:56 pm

Yeah y’all are right! I think I am just settling with Chrissa. if I don’t like her I’ll sell her, no big deal. I wish they’d make some JLY’s with brown hair, brown eyes and freckles.

    Miley Cyrus isn’t dead, right?

  656. Lily on July 19th, 2009 7:22 pm

    Errr . . . I’m pretty sure she’s alive and screeching.

  657. Georgia on July 19th, 2009 7:27 pm

Same. I just was on youtube and everyone was like “RIP Miley” and stuff so i was just wondering.
I didn’t think she was dead

  658. Anne on July 19th, 2009 8:07 pm

“. . . I’m pretty sure she’s alive and screeching.” That made me laugh really hard. Wasn’t there another “death scare” of hers not too long ago?

    I’m with you, Al.

I looked at the clothes MT currently has available for their dolls and I was not impressed. Then again, I am not impressed with most of the clothes in the AG JLY line, either.

I make my doll clothes from scraps of fabric. I like doing it that way – cost free, and I get some pretty interesting fabrics that way. I am in the process of making my first dress, but I previously made one with my old babysitter for one of my antique dolls (though I keep her in her original dress – she and the clothes are to fragile to move around). The dress fits my AG’S pretty well, though I have to put it on them in a strange way for it to work.

Lena, I think that it is so interesting that you grew up in rural Poland. Not many people I know have stories like that. My old babysitter, who is in her 30’s now, grew up with her mom, 5 sisters and 1 brother and extended family in Trinidad. Some of her family came here before she did. She started babysitting my brother and I in January 1999, only a few months after my brother was born. She stopped working for us the year I went into 8th grade but babysits one of my best friends and her brother (she is 3 years younger then me and her brother is 4 years younger then her) two days a week so I am always over by them.

  659. Anne on July 19th, 2009 8:19 pm

    Anyone on?

  660. Anne on July 19th, 2009 8:29 pm

How was the weather by you guys today? It was gorgeous today, as it has been for a while now. It felt like Spring – barley a cloud in the sky, breezy, and cool. It is such a nice change form the rain we had almost all of May and June,

  661. Lily on July 19th, 2009 8:43 pm

Hey, Anne! I’m glad to have made you laugh with my Miley Cyrus comment. Needless to say, I’m not terribly impressed with her singing voice ;)

I agree . . . neither the JLY or MT clothes are very impressive. They’re nothing special or creative. That’s why it’s so much fun to find custom stuff. I like to request fabrics and styles.

The weather today was hot and humid, like every other day this summer. We had some rain clouds, but no rain. Right now it actually feels mildy nice and breezy outside.

  662. Lily on July 19th, 2009 8:45 pm

But I do like some of the old JLY stuff. I liked the purple cheerleading outfit, pink and navy tennis outfit, on the go outfit, sightseeing outfit, etc . . . pretty much stuff from around 2005 and 2006.

  663. Anne on July 19th, 2009 8:56 pm

Nor am I. That voice makes me cringe.

Yeah, the old stuff is ok. Much better then what is currently available.

Hot and humid? Really? We have had all of two cloudy and humid days this summer. It has been overall spring-like since the beginning of the month. I can deal with a little rain now and then if it means more days like today! We only turned on the AC once this month. It was 90 degrees with nearly 100% humidity. We never ever put our AC on lower then 72 degrees. Between 72 and 76 is the norm for us.

  664. Anne on July 19th, 2009 8:59 pm

I say the old stuff is only ok because I was always more drawn to the historicals and their collection. I really like Addy’s collection. It’s a shame that most of it has been retired. Addy’s collection, overall, is probably my favorite because of how simple it is. Simple but very pleasing to the eye.

  665. Lily on July 19th, 2009 9:02 pm

I live a long ways from the Northeast and this has been one of the hottest summers on record for my area. It hasn’t rained much at all either.

I’m really hoping AG releases some nice historical outfits this fall, especially for Rebecca and Julie, my two newest dolls. I haven’t opened the box yet. Only about two more weeks!

I’ve all but given up on decent clothes for the JLY line. Year after year, they’ve consistently released loads of mediocre (or downright ugly) outfits. Looks like my dolls will be wearing retired stuff for awhile.

  666. Lily on July 19th, 2009 9:05 pm

I liked Addy’s school and Christmas outfits a lot. Her Cape Island dress is one of my all time favorites. Too bad two of those three are retired and expensive. If I do buy Addy, I will shell out the money for the school dress. I love royal blue and other jewel tones.

  667. Aaryana on July 19th, 2009 9:12 pm

I agree. All my favorite AG outfits are pre-2005.

  668. Anne on July 19th, 2009 9:20 pm

Everything in my area is so green (and we have loads of big, old trees, as it is a historic town) because of all the rain in the spring. It has been one of the coolest summers for us.

Yes, I am hoping for some new Rebecca outfits, too. I plan to get her in 2011 and Addy in 2010, both for my birthday. I doubt they’d retire any outfits for Rebecca so soon – 2011 is 2 years away and Julie has been out for 2 years and no outfits of hers have retired.

I know what the wait feels like. Most of my dresses (I bought many with my own money) and Lissie, her current outfits, and Kirsten’s baking dress came weeks before my birthday on the 25th of last month and I stacked them all up by one of our fireplaces and stared at them every day, imagening what’s inside.

My mom won’t take me to Target until I

My mom won’t take me to Target until I clean out my closet completely. She promised me some new clothes, since it has been ages since I got new clothes and she said she would buy me a few things off of the clearance rack. There was about 4 feet of junk on the floor and now there is about 1.5 feet, so I am almost there.

  670. Anne on July 19th, 2009 9:23 pm

I like Addy’s meet dress a lot. All of her dresses are nice, but she looks so special in that outfit (to me, anyway).

  671. Lily on July 19th, 2009 9:28 pm

That’s funny how your Mom won’t take you to Target until you clean out your closet, because my mom won’t give me my AG stuff until I clean out my closet. I haven’t even started! I have clothes shopping tomorrow . . . I’m not terribly excited because it’s so hard to find clothes that fit me.

I love Addy’s meet dress too. That pink cinnamon is a nice color. I wish some of Addy’s outfits were designed for Kirsten instead. I know they’re historically accurate, but a lot of Kirsten’s stuff is dull-colored.

  672. Lily on July 19th, 2009 9:29 pm

I think I might ask for Addy for Christmas . . . or maybe Josefina. All of my dolls are white, so I want to add a little color into the mix.

  673. Lily on July 19th, 2009 9:34 pm

Heck, I might get both :)

  674. Anne on July 19th, 2009 9:35 pm

So do I – only I absolutely love Addy’s character, too.

I mentioned that closet thing because I remember reading your comment about that earlier :)

Pants, particularly jeans, are hard for me to find (ones that fit me, I mean) because I have to wear petite sizes and people think that “petite” is a synonym for “small frame.” That’s really annoying, because I have naturally bug bones (which isn’t a nicer way to say “fat,” as some people think) and big muscles on top of that, particularly in my butt/leg region. Shirts, sweatshirts/sweaters and other pants are easy, though. My favorite clothes are hand-me-downs, my second favorite are odd clothes found at second-hand stores, and my third favorite are Target clothes.

  675. Anne on July 19th, 2009 9:36 pm

A lot of Kirsten’s stuff is dull, but from what I have seen of prairie dresses, hers come very close to the real thing. I like her collection.

  676. Aaryana on July 19th, 2009 9:37 pm

Josefina is absolutely gorgeous. She’s probably my second favorite doll (after Molly.) I think either Addy or Josefina would be a great choice. Addy’s books are my favorite book set.

  677. Anne on July 19th, 2009 9:40 pm

I love Addy’s books, too. They are my favorite. And Josefina is stunning. My current list is Addy and all of her outfits (birthday 2010), and Rebecca and all of her outfits (birthday 2011). On my “maybe” list are Kaya and Josefina. I have to read their books and learn more about them before I can decide. If I decide to get them, I would get them after the two on my for sure list.

  678. Lily on July 19th, 2009 9:42 pm

I believe you when you say that you’re big boned. Some people also naturally have more muscle than others. However, I believe the term “big boned” is overused as an excuse for overweight and obese people.

Jeans are hard for me to find . . . for exactly the opposite reason as you. I have really long twig legs so it’s hard to find jeans that are long enough. I can never wear the regular sizes; I have to get a 0 or 1 long.

  679. Lily on July 19th, 2009 9:43 pm

I would maybe like to get Kaya eventually. I wish that AG had not retired her Today dress with the tasseled red cape and indigo bodice. I loved that outfit!

  680. Lily on July 19th, 2009 9:45 pm

Aaryana, Molly is my favorite doll too. She was the first historical doll that I bought. Her stories are my all-time favorites. She’s a schemer (and a tad bit whiny) just like me. One major difference is that I’m good at math. I’m not sure why she couldn’t learn 7×8=56!

  681. Anne on July 19th, 2009 9:55 pm

I don’t really care for the historical “of today” outfits, despite the fact that they are (or were) all very pretty.

The 7’s were the first set of times tables I learned after the basic ones (0, 1, 2, 5, 10…) and they are still the ones I know best! Weird, because 7’s are considered one of the harder ones.

I, too, believe that “big boned” is over-used. My wrist and ankle bones, for example, are much larger then my friend’s. My bones are almost as big as my mom’s, and she is 5 inches taller and has big bones herself. My dad and all of his family is puny. He is 5′6 and 135 lbs of pure muscle. He has tiny, frail bones, though. Looks like I missed out on those genes (not necessarily a good or a bad thing, though). The rest of his family are like that, only not as strong as he is.

I like Molly fine now, but when I first got into AG at 8 1/2 years old, I hated her. I thought she was too modern. Now, I’m glad they have her. WWII was such an important time in our history. I don’t mind Julie now, only I wish they had released more 1800’s dolls and Rebecca before her and Ivy. I understand why they did it, though. When the dolls came out in the 1980’s, a girl’s mother could easily have been born in Molly’s era and could explain their childhood through the doll. Now parents of this generation can do the same with Julie.

  682. Lena on July 19th, 2009 10:01 pm

I feel left out. I have the body of a model, so clothes aren’t hard to find. But I do agree that “big boned” is used way too much as an excuse for obesity.

  683. Anne on July 19th, 2009 10:01 pm

    Lucky you!

  684. Lily on July 19th, 2009 10:04 pm

What exactly is the body of a model? I’m sure I’m too scrawny to have that figure!

  685. Lena on July 19th, 2009 10:18 pm

I mean random people have asked me if I’m a model, and I was mistaken for one in NY last year at a photoshoot.

  686. Lily on July 19th, 2009 10:26 pm

That’s funny. People sometimes think that I have an eating disorder, which is totally not true. Being a runner burns off a lot of calories, even if you do eat in the school cafeteria everyday and have healthy appetite for cookies, chocolate cake, and brownies like me. I’m just kind of waiting for my figure to “fill out”.

  687. Aaryana on July 19th, 2009 10:46 pm

Give it a few years. You’ll wish you had your high school body back, especially when the sweets all settle in places you don’t want them!

I like Molly’s stories, but they are not my favorite. She is my favorite because she was my first AG doll. I didn’t pick her out. My mom did, and I think the reason she picked her was because she was somewhat modern. After she saw how interested I was in the historical dolls, she and my grandma let me choose historical dolls.

  688. Lily on July 19th, 2009 10:51 pm

My parents picked out my first doll, AGT #3. I wish I would’ve had the sense to ask for Felicity and her town fair outfit! But what 5 year-old is capable of picking out a doll she’ll like 10 years later? I’m telling you, AG would do well to re-release the town fair outfit.

  689. Lily on July 19th, 2009 11:07 pm

Aaryana, is college better than high school? What are the perks to both?

  690. Sara on July 20th, 2009 12:23 am

Thnx Bookworm!! Ya, my BFF and I have been friends practically our whole lives!!! And she’s just 6 months older than me! :(

  691. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 12:47 am

Honestly, I hated high school. I love college.

College perks: more diversity (and people who are similar to you even when you are different), it’s actually cool to be smart, all different people hang out together, you get to learn how to be away from home, college ministries (for me, anyway), longer summer/winter breaks, you can eat what you want whenever you want it (so long as you go to a school like mine in the middle of a somewhat large city), really cool professors, you get to pick your classes (next semester, I only have class 3 days a week!)

College cons: it’s a big adjustment being away from home sometimes, lots more homework, weight gain (from eating what you want when you want it!), really horrible professors, 8 am classes

High school perks: parents pay for everything (mostly), easy work

High school cons: well, I hated high school, so I’ll just leave this one blank so as not to discourage future high schoolers. ;)

Personally, I think college is much better than high school. The classes I have actually somewhat pertain to my chosen field. There is a lot less “busy work”, and I have real friends. I’m not into the party scene though. I know a lot of people would say parties is the best part, but I don’t recommend it. I’ve seen lots of young adults get so messed up in the party scene.

  692. Georgia on July 20th, 2009 2:33 am

Some times Miley Cyrus is alright at singing. I have large bones but i find it really easy to buy clothes.
What’s the difference between college and uni?

  693. Abby on July 20th, 2009 8:16 am

*Sob* hey guys. good news and bad news.

    1. good: I got a our generation bathtub for Kirsten and Ivy and clothes for Julie!

    2. bad: I won’t say it yet because can somebody please tell me they will listen?

  694. Abby on July 20th, 2009 8:21 am

I didn’t technically buy mine or win it. my parents bought her for me for doing something millions tried and didn’t make it.

  695. Lena on July 20th, 2009 8:47 am

    Abby, I’ll listen.

  696. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 9:30 am

    Georgia,

College and university are the same thing.

    Abby,

    I am also listening.

  697. Holly on July 20th, 2009 10:05 am

    ill listen abby.

  698. Lily on July 20th, 2009 10:05 am

    I’m listening too, Abby.

Aaryana, thank you for answering my question. I hate high school too. There is way too much busy work, unreasonable coaches, and little freedom. Too bad I have to get through three more years. And don’t worry; I will never get in on the party scene. That’s just the fast track to ruining your life.

  699. Al on July 20th, 2009 10:40 am

    hiya! :D anyone on?

  700. Lily on July 20th, 2009 10:57 am

    I’m on, Al :)

  701. Holly on July 20th, 2009 11:22 am

me 2. im having a serious problem w/ choosing a doll that looks like me :/

  702. Lily on July 20th, 2009 11:45 am

Holly, are you choosing between the JLY dolls or between JLY and My Twinn? I can help you since I have 14 AG (2 of them JLY) and 3 MT.

  703. Holly on July 20th, 2009 11:53 am

i have a my twinn. i love her 2 death!! :) but no, im looking for an american girl. i have shoulder length auburn hair, and gray eyes. my skin tone is olive.

  704. Lena on July 20th, 2009 12:04 pm

Too bad AG retired all the gray eyed dolls. You can still find them floating around on eBay.

Holly, seeing you reminded me of my ideas for Ivy that I stupidly forgot.

  705. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:07 pm

Holly, I don’t really think you have olive skin. I saw a photo of you on your blog and I’d say you have fair/light skin. Olive is often used to describe people like Jessica Alba and Hallie Berry. It generally applies to people who have darker eyes and hair. It’s not interchangeable with light skin.

  706. Holly on July 20th, 2009 12:13 pm

thnx lily!! since those pics, ive got a pretty good tan(which im definately proud of) ;)

    what do you mean lena?

  707. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:14 pm

Holly, I think that JLY 17 would be a decent match for you. She has auburn hair and blue eyes. She’s still available from AG.

None of the JLY dolls ever had auburn/red hair and gray eyes. If you’re bent on gray eyes, you could go with JLY 9, which is now retired. She has brown hair and gray eyes. Of course, you can always rewig her.

Holly, I’d love to see your My Twinn doll! Could you put a photo of her up on your website?

  708. Lena on July 20th, 2009 12:15 pm

I remembered you take tae kwon do, which is Korean, and I had the idea last night to make Ivy Korean. Then I went to sleep and forgot the idea until I saw you.

  709. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:15 pm

Also, you could find a Molly doll with bad hair for a low price on eBay and give her a new wig.

  710. Holly on July 20th, 2009 12:20 pm

lol lena!! i thought u were commenting on me having slanted eyes. lol

ill will try lily!! im sure little rebecca would love the spotlight!! :)

  711. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:21 pm

If you don’t want to rewig the doll yourself, you can send her into an independently owned doll hospital anywhere in the country. Unfortunately, the AG doll hospital only replaces doll heads, not wigs. You can click on my name to see the AAA doll hospital. They will give your doll a higher quality wig than the AG ones and they’ll ship your doll back to you (they’re located in Texas).

  712. Holly on July 20th, 2009 12:29 pm

    cool. i think i may get #17.

  713. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:31 pm

I can keep an eye out for a cheap Molly (not necessarily from eBay) for you, if you like.

  714. Holly on July 20th, 2009 12:35 pm

thnx, but i rather just buy i new 1 and make her in2 my mini- me.
i cant figure my camera out 2day, so ill try to get my mum to fix it when she gets home.im puttin rebecca in her holiday dress.

  715. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:41 pm

That’s kind of confusing how you named your My Twinn doll Rebecca! Of course, that was before we knew anything about Rebecca the AG doll. My doll’s name is Lily after my pseudonym for this wesbite. The other two My Twinn dolls of mine don’t really have names. I’ll going to rewig one of them to look like Kirsten and I’ll buy a custom outfit that looks exactly like her meet dress.

  716. Gracie on July 20th, 2009 12:42 pm

Kaya has the number 1 worst hair EVER!!!!!!!!!!!!Once you take it out of the braids it gets all tangled and blah!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Same with Kirsten!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  717. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:42 pm

Once it’s all said and done, I will send in photos :)

  718. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:43 pm

Gracie, I learned my lesson 8 years ago when I took Molly’s hair of her braids. Kisrten and Jess both have never had their braids taken out.

  719. Holly on July 20th, 2009 12:52 pm

I took Kirsten’s hair out of the braids, and she looks great!! I like Kaya’s braids, so I’m not taking them out.
I’ll call Rebecca(my twinn) Becca on here, so there’s no confusion.

My dad said #17 is probably the closest,so that’ll probably be the one. Now just choosing the name…. lol.

  720. Lena on July 20th, 2009 12:54 pm

Gracie, if you spray it with waterm it helps detangle it. Actually, water helps with all doll styling.

I also like Kirsten’s hair better out of the braids.

  721. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:55 pm

I think a name that rhymes with yours would be cute.

  722. Lily on July 20th, 2009 12:57 pm

I’m just afraid of never getting Kirsten’s braids back the way they were before. I like to make my dolls look just like they do in the catalogs, so she needs her braids!

  723. Holly on July 20th, 2009 1:07 pm

If thats the case, the only decent name is Molly. lol

  724. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:10 pm

I’ve never had a problem with my dolls’ hair. Chrissa does shed a bit, but it’s not terrible. I always spray it with a little warm water before I brush it. As far as braids go, I’m pretty decent at braiding, so I get the braids back in fairly easily. My mom figured out how to tie Kirsten’s braids back up when I first got her, and she showed me how to do it. I’ve taken her hair down lots of times, and it still looks really nice.

  725. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:13 pm

    Holly,

What about a name that starts with the same letter as yours? The kids I baby-sit are Sophie and Sarah. Or, just go with something really unique or a name that you really like. That’s what I do with my dolls. I name them whatever name I happen to like at that moment. For example, if I get a new JLY in the future, she will be called Aaryana. Though, I don’t see that happening as there isn’t a nice red haired JLY yet.

  726. Holly on July 20th, 2009 1:14 pm

I really like the name Helena, so I might name her that. :)

  727. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:17 pm

Hehe… go ahead, my Helena’s not the only one in the world I’m sure LOL

  728. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:17 pm

I do, too. I think it’s because I’m on a Harry Potter kick though, and Bellatrix Lestrange (played by Helena Bonham Carter) is my favorite character. :P

  729. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:19 pm

I love Helena Boham-Carter. She’s a good actress (not a good singer though, IMO)

  730. Holly on July 20th, 2009 1:22 pm

I’ll make sure I’ll put my Helena’s middle name too so there’s no confusion. ;)
Now for the middle name…. lol. I’ll make that something probably unique and different. My other two JLYs are named (#4)Emerson-Sophia Brooke, and (#22) Amy AnnLee.
Both of them look nowhere at all like me, so I think it’s time for one that does.

  731. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:23 pm

I agree. Her singing in Sweeney Todd felt a little forced. You could tell she really had to work at it. But, she’s one of my favorite actresses.

  732. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:24 pm

How about something Gaelec? That’s different.

  733. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:26 pm

Yeah, but Johnny Depp’s singing made up for it. I actually own the sound track.

  734. Holly on July 20th, 2009 1:29 pm

Gaelic is very well different. I will check into some names… I love how unique they are!!
    Lena, any suggestions?

  735. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:35 pm

Oh, I agree. I burned a friend’s copy of the soundtrack, so I have it as well.

  736. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:36 pm

Fion (not a typo. it has no A)
    Myfanwy
    Rhianon
    Llinos

go to behindthename . com to see more, especially under Welsh.

  737. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:39 pm

I work at Disney, so I had a major discount at the Virgin store there, so I got the soundtrack for cheap.

  738. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:40 pm

I’m doing some Gaelic name searching. So, far, I like: Cayleigh, Cailin, and Keely. One of the girls I baby-sit named her doll Calyanni. That’s pretty different, but I like it a lot.

  739. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:42 pm

My favorite is Myfanwy. I know someone named that, and it sounds really pretty when pronounced properly. She goes by her middle name, Nick, because no one can pronounce Myfanway right.

  740. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:42 pm

My favorite is Myfanwy. I know someone named that, and it sounds really pretty when pronounced properly. She goes by her middle name, Nick, because no one can pronounce Myfanwy right.

  741. Lily on July 20th, 2009 1:43 pm

Here’s a Gaelic name: Aisling (pronounced ASH-ling). I remember because that was the name of one of the Irish doctors on Air France 447, which crashed last month in the Atlantic Ocean with no survivors. Kind of morbid, but well, you wanted to know a Gaelic name.

  742. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:43 pm

Yay for cheap stuff! And, yay for Disney! I would love to work there, but I bet it can be a challenge.

  743. Holly on July 20th, 2009 1:44 pm

Thanks Lena!! I think I may choose Aleksandra. It’s Russian.

  744. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:45 pm

I know someone named Ashling, and it kind of bothers me that the name is actually spelled the way Aisling is pronounced. Aisling looks so much prettier to me.

  745. Lily on July 20th, 2009 1:45 pm

Lena, I googled how to pronounce that name.

    Muh-VAHN-wi (short i)

    Is that right?

  746. Holly on July 20th, 2009 1:45 pm

But Myfanwy is pretty too… hmmm….

  747. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:48 pm

Aleksandra is also Polish, Romanian, and I think Hungarian. Works well with the name Helena.

Working at Disney can be a pain. Especially if you sell their cheap dolls… that go for 50$…. and hear little girls and parents arguing about getting an AG instead…..

  748. Lily on July 20th, 2009 1:49 pm

    Here’s another: Cairine

    It’s pronounced (Ky-reen)

  749. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:49 pm

That’s as close as you can get.

  750. Lily on July 20th, 2009 1:50 pm

Lena, I didn’t see any of those dolls at Disneyland. But again, I didn’t go into any of those tourist-trap shops. What do they look like?

  751. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:50 pm

Haha!! I bet that does get annoying. Personally, if I worked at Disney, I’d want to dress up as Belle or Cinderella and take pictures with the kids.

  752. Lily on July 20th, 2009 1:52 pm

For Christmas, I plan on finding a My Twinn doll with green eyes and giving her curly bright red hair. I may give her a pretty Gaelic name if I see one I love.

  753. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:52 pm

You know the cheap dolls at Walmart? Plastic rooted hair, soft, shiny vinyl, big eyes? That.

I think jasmine has the sweetest deal. Why? It gets to 110 here with humidity. But the get more professional actresses to do that.

  754. Lily on July 20th, 2009 1:55 pm

Here’s the last one: Cayleigh (Kay-lee)

  755. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:55 pm

I once asked for one of those dolls when we were at the Magic Kingdom. My mom told me if I would carry it the whole day and not ask someone else to we would buy it. She said if I asked then we’d take it back to the shop. I didn’t get the doll, but later that night I told mom I wanted an American Girl instead. Even at 9 years old, I argued that I should pay more for a doll I really wanted instead of less for a doll I didn’t care much about. I got Samantha for Christmas that year! (Sam was my 2nd AG doll.)

  756. Lily on July 20th, 2009 1:56 pm

Lena, are the dolls comparable with the Our Generation dolls at Target?

  757. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:57 pm

Oh, I agree. Jasmine does get the best deal, but I wouldn’t want to show my tummy anyway. I’ll take the ball gown over a huge, furry puppet head though!

  758. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 1:58 pm

We have a condo in Daytona, so we spend a couple weeks every year in Florida. Humidity is insane there, but at least you get the ocean breeze in Daytona. Orlando is much hotter.

  759. Lena on July 20th, 2009 1:58 pm

Yeah, OGs are good too. I couldn’t think of a different store at the moment.

Well, the dolls were cheaper back in the day. I have one I got for 20$

  760. Holly on July 20th, 2009 2:00 pm

I’d like to be Ariel. But that’s just because she’s been my favorite since I was little.

I’ll tell yall the middle name for my Helena when I get her. ;)

  761. Lena on July 20th, 2009 2:01 pm

Ariel and Jasmine have the best costumes for Florida heat. But Ariel’s costume you can’t move your legs much.

  762. Lily on July 20th, 2009 2:02 pm

I’m right there with you, Lena. I’m along the Gulf Coast and it’s roasting with extremely high humidity around here, which puts the heat index up around 108 quite a bit. It’s been one of the hottest summers on record here, but again, I don’t work outside.

  763. Lena on July 20th, 2009 2:04 pm

I’m happy to work in an air conditioned store.

  764. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 2:08 pm

I agree. I enjoy the air conditioned gym I work in.

Yeah, seems like the doll was about 20 or 30 dollars back then. My mom just didn’t want to get stuck carrying it around all day. I think that’s because one time I wanted a giant Scooby-Doo, and she actually got it. After that, someone always had to stay off the rides to hold onto the Scooby. Lesson learned: buy souvenirs at the end of the day when traveling with little people. :)

  765. Lily on July 20th, 2009 2:08 pm

Any ideas for my blond, blue eyed My Twinn doll who looks like Kit and will soon look like Kirsten?

  766. Lily on July 20th, 2009 2:09 pm

    I mean name ideas.

  767. Lena on July 20th, 2009 2:15 pm

You could look up Swedish names.

  768. Abby on July 20th, 2009 2:35 pm

Ok peeps. its sad. :( my dad just told me he and my mom are getting divorced….. *SOBS*

  769. Lily on July 20th, 2009 2:39 pm

I’m so sorry, Abby. Remember that we’re here to talk if you want to.

  770. Holly on July 20th, 2009 2:41 pm

Abby, it’ll be ok. Things happen for a reason. You just have to want both of your parents happy. Alot of my friends have divorced parents. They took it really rough at first(which is normal), and then they just got used to the fact and accepted it. I wish you the best of luck that everything will work out.
If you ever need to just talk, your more than welcome to get on my website and chat about whatever you need to.

  771. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 2:54 pm

    Abby,

I’m really sorry to hear that, sweetie. I know that can be a really tough thing to go through. My parents have considered divorce a couple of times, and it’s still scary even now that I’m grown. If they are fighting a lot, it may seem like a relief once you get used to the idea of them being divorced. The most important thing for you to understand right now is that your mom and dad both really love you even though they may not love each other as much anymore. Their divorce has nothing to do with you, and it is not your fault in anyway. You can’t prevent it from happening. Talk to your parents about what you want as far as living arrangements go and other important stuff. If you want equal time with both parents, be sure to tell them that. It’s okay to be sad and hurt by all of this, but make sure you find some healthy outlets for that. Go outside and enjoy the summer, and know that you have good friends to lean on when it seems really tough. *E-hugs*

I don’t know if there’s a way to do this or not, but I could give you my e-mail address, so you can ask questions or just chat if you need to. I just don’t want it posted on here for the random stranger to see. Char? Lena? Any advice on that one?

  772. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:01 pm

I wouldn’t suggest it on here.

  773. Lily on July 20th, 2009 3:04 pm

Aaryana, that was a very nice thing to say. You are great with words and I enjoy reading your comments. Hopefully Char will find a way to let you give Abby your email address.

  774. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:04 pm

I can let you comment on my LJ with it. I you don’t have an LJ, be sure to tell me who you are so I can say who’s adress it is, and i’ll delete the journal when Abby gets it.

  775. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 3:04 pm

Yeah. Maybe I should make a blog or something.

  776. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 3:05 pm

I have an LJ from a really long time ago. I’m not sure I even remember the info for it.

  777. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 3:05 pm

    Thanks, Lily!

  778. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:08 pm

I’m posting an entry on my journal, you can leave a comment there.

  779. Lily on July 20th, 2009 3:11 pm

I was going to comment on your entry, but I don’t have a LiveJournal account.

  780. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:13 pm

You don’t need one. Its open to all coments, or at least it should be.

  781. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 3:14 pm

I actually remembered the info! Oh my gosh!

  782. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:15 pm

Ok, yeah, you can’t. I’m working on it.

  783. Lily on July 20th, 2009 3:29 pm

I just made an Live Journal account :)

  784. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 3:29 pm

Okay. I made a new LJ. The other one isn’t appropriate for this site. How do I get the website address to put in the box?

  785. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:29 pm

Ok, now it should let anyone comment, LJ or not.

Lily, if you could be my test subject, I’d be very happy.

  786. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:30 pm

Funny you guys make one…. when I figure out how to let everyone comment.

  787. Lily on July 20th, 2009 3:34 pm

I’ve kind of been wanting one anyway.

  788. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:40 pm

K, I added it to the main post… now I just have to HTML it.

  789. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 3:41 pm

I’ve been thinking of making one myself. I might post a Harry Potter fanfic I’ve been working on there. I’m still deciding if it’s good enough for fanfiction.net or not.

  790. Lily on July 20th, 2009 3:44 pm

I added you as a LJ friend, Lena. I might start an entry now.

  791. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:44 pm

You clearly haven’t read some of the stuff on fanfiction.net. Its scary how bad people can write. (I know I’m one of them, that’s why I’m revising my story)

  792. Lena on July 20th, 2009 3:46 pm

    I added you too.

  793. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 3:48 pm

Add me! Add me! I posted on your LJ, Lena.

  794. Aaryana on July 20th, 2009 3:49 pm

Yes, I know some people write poorly, but when I post on fanfiction.net, I want my work to be my best work.

  795. Lily on July 20th, 2009 3:52 pm

    I added you, Aaryana.

  813. Lily on July 20th, 2009 8:43 pm

I couldn’t figure out how to do it. I edited the title and a few things here and there.

  814. Anne on July 20th, 2009 8:48 pm

I am truly hear that, Abby. When you said you had bad news I didn’t expect it to be something so severe. As other before me have said, we are here for you and wish you the best of lick during this difficult time. Stay strong and you will come through this ordeal even stronger then you already are. Sorry I can’t offer more advice – I can’t possibly imagine what you are going through. You have my deepest sympathy.

Lily, I enjoyed your story, too.

  815. Anne on July 20th, 2009 8:51 pm

Just a general question: if I were to sell my Samantha (which I’m NOT), how much of a price deduction could I expect being that her hair has been cut maybe an inch to an inch and a half (over-estimating to be on the safe side)? It’s not too noticeable when curly but it is when it is straight, and it is a fact. I don’t want to send her into the hospital. Anyone know?

  816. Anne on July 20th, 2009 8:55 pm

She is otherwise in pretty good condition. Gently used. How much would be deducted and how much would it be if not for the haircut (same question, I know)?

  817. Lily on July 20th, 2009 8:56 pm

Did you cut her hair? Why?

  818. pioneerfan04 on July 20th, 2009 9:03 pm

it’s okay lily, i just made another one! if you want to read my livejournal, click on my name!

  819. Lily on July 20th, 2009 9:13 pm

That was a great entry, pioneerfan04! I can’t wait to read what happens next.

  820. Lily on July 20th, 2009 9:26 pm

I think I’ll add Part 2 to my story tomorrow. The most I’ll say is that the story takes two unexpected turns.

  821. Anne on July 20th, 2009 9:38 pm

Yes, I did, when I was 11 or so. :( I wasn’t a serious collector then, and the ends of her hair were getting ratty and I didn’t know of any other way to deal with the problem. I regret doing that now, but she is my Sam and I won’t replace her head; I have grown too attached to this one.

Two unexpected twists in the plot…hmmmm…you have me guessing! Please do add the next part tomorrow!

  822. Lily on July 20th, 2009 9:42 pm

I understand, Anne. When I was 6 or 7, I gave my doll (AGT 3) a short hair cut and I cut her bangs. She looked awful! I finally sent her into the doll hospital last year . . . 8 years after the fact!

  823. Anne on July 20th, 2009 9:45 pm

I can’t wait to go away on the first of next month! I know this is a kind of random comment, but I can’t get it out of my mind! It is only the second big vacation I have taken (out of the cluster of states in my area) that I can remember (the first one being a trip to Colorado when I was less then a year old, the second being a trip to Colorado in February 2007 for a skating competition – the rest were just YMCA family camps and trips to the states that border my state, but those were only 1 or 2 day trips) and I am so psyched! It is going to rock!

  824. Anne on July 20th, 2009 9:47 pm

My parents didn’t want to be hassled with big trips when my brother and I were younger, but it was a good year to start being that I am in my middle teenage years and my brother is turning 11 late this year.

  825. Anne on July 20th, 2009 9:58 pm

By the way, this is my first year posting on sites and stuff, and my mom thinks this site is really cool (same with AG Playthings and some other doll collecting sites I go on). I’ll be writing a review on Playthings or posting here and she’ll come up and ask for me to explain how it works and to see what I have posted out of curiosity! It is quite funny. She likes my dolls but she doesn’t understand what a bunch of older girls are doing chatting online about them! She doesn’t discourage me, though, which is nice.

Lily, how’s that closet coming? I am going to do loads of work on it tomorrow. I really am in need of a few new clothes for my trip. Old houses have a funny closet layout. Since people didn’t need big closets (think of how many clothes the average person needed) and there was no need for a “master suite” in simple houses, the larger upstairs (bedroom) closets are found in odd places. My bedroom, which was originally one of 4 bedrooms (not counting the large third floor, which could have been another bedroom), was the second-to-smallest out of the 4 yet it has the largest closet. Actually, the smallest bedroom, which was previously converted into a bathroom, had no closet at all! My closet is long but narrow, which allows for an easy build-up of junk. When it is totally cleaned out, my parents said that they would but some proper shelving for it, since what is currently in there doesn’t optimize the space, and have promised a hanging system for my AG dresses! :) That means no more dresses squished into a laundry basket! Once upon a time, when I just had Kirsten and most of her dresses, I was able to get away with hanging them all on a small hanger system mounted on my wall. I couldn’t even get away with doing that when Samantha and most of her dresses came into the house two years later, let alone now!

  826. Anne on July 20th, 2009 10:07 pm

Who was your favorite Hopscotch Hill character/doll? Mine is Skylar. My friend has her and she is such a pretty doll. I don’t know anything about the general personalities of the dolls. Never read the books – they were aimed at an even younger audience then the historical books are and I didn’t see the point in reading them.

  827. Holly on July 20th, 2009 10:51 pm

I have Hallie and Gwen. I think my favorite would have to be Hallie.

  828. katherine on July 20th, 2009 10:58 pm

i liked halie (i think thats how its spelled) my sister has her and 2 other Hopscotch Hill dolls. my mom and sister really liked them cause they were like for the middle daughter (which that sister was) i liked american girl and my sister liked Hopscotch Hill and we tried so hard to get my little sister to get into bitty baby but she would rather get a stuffed animal.

  829. Anne on July 20th, 2009 11:01 pm

Isn’t it odd that they had a HH Gwen and now a GOTY Gwen? Couldn’t they have thought of a different name? I dislike the name Chrissa, love the name Sonali, and think that they should have picked a different name for Gwen. It’s an OK name, but kind of blah because it has already been used.

  830. Lily on July 20th, 2009 11:22 pm

Anne, I dislike the name Chrissa also. It’s like AG invented their own version of either Kristen or Christy. And I think AG reused the name Gwen so they wouldn’t have to pay to register an extra name. Gwen, I think, is a boring old lady name.

I actually haven’t even started cleaning out my closet, Anne . I’ve been too wrapped up in creating my LJ and reading a book that I didn’t do it today. My goal is to start after lunch tomorrow!

  831. Anne on July 20th, 2009 11:37 pm

Yeah, Gwen is kind of boring. Gwendolyn is an OK name, but it is too bland for a doll who has no real spice to her looks. She is pretty but typical and the name didn’t do her any good, I think.

  832. Anne on July 20th, 2009 11:39 pm

Sonali is gorgeous, though – both in name and in doll.

What do you guys think of the name “Sonalia” with “Sonali” or “Nalia” as nicknames?

  833. Anne on July 20th, 2009 11:46 pm

For the other GOTY dolls and their names, in my opinion:

Lindsey – OK, nice, classic, suited her very well
Kailey – OK but not my favorite, OK for her

Marisol – LOVE it! My favorite GOTY name (tied with Sonali), OK for her

Jess (I’m assuming short for Jessica – anyone know that for sure?) – OK, not a favorite, very nice for her

Mia – Not a name I like, but fits her pretty well.

Chrissa – Horrible, worst GOTY name so far, would suit no one (to my knowledge), at least not her

Gwen (I’m assuming it is short for Gwendolyn) – OK name but not for her

Sonali – LOVE it! Tie w/ Marisol for first place. Suits her well.

  834. Lily on July 20th, 2009 11:53 pm

I like the name Mia. It’s very cute. I wish Jess would’ve been advertised as Jessica. I love that name and AG just chopped off half of it.

Yes, the name “Chrissa” is truly awful. No one has ever heard of it and it sounds like a weird hybrid name. Lena and I both said this awhile back, but it really is a fitting name for a loser.

  835. Lily on July 20th, 2009 11:54 pm

I think a good name for Gwen’s character is Lily! :) I don’t know why I’m hooked on the name Lily.

  836. katherine on July 21st, 2009 12:09 am

lily would have been a good name for Gwen but i like Gwen and Chrissa’s names. american girl take a long time to make the dolls so they must have a good reason for the names.

  837. Anne on July 21st, 2009 12:10 am

I actually do think Lily would have been a better name for her! I do wish they hadn’t made her a blond, though – it seems like Mattel is trying to release AG Barbies whenever possible. I would have rather seen her with short, layered, light brown hair, no bangs, muted green eyes, freckles, and named something different. I think that combination would have been more unique.

Yeah, Chrissa does kind of sound like a loser’s name.

  838. Anne on July 21st, 2009 12:11 am

When we first heard about Chrissa, I was unsure of how to pronounce her name!

  839. Anne on July 21st, 2009 12:13 am

In contrast, I love all of the historical dolls and their names!

My mom was born in 1960, so she is from the same era as Julie. Just the other day, my mom was saying that when she was 9 or 10, she wished she had long, straight blond hair and that her name was Julie! But she also said that she didn’t wear clothes like Julie did, but that they were a fair representation of the time.

Does anyone know if Julie is short for Julia? Or Jewel? Or is her full name Julie?

  840. katherine on July 21st, 2009 12:21 am

i love Gwens bangs because they are like nellies but since her hair is longer i can do more styles on it

  841. Sara on July 21st, 2009 12:24 am

I agree w/ katherine. I think Chrissa is a pretty name!

  842. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 3:58 am

Julie is her full name. My mum’s sister’s name is Julie, she had long blond hair and a necklace exacly the same as in Julie’s accessories!
btw Anne, when you were telling ur opinion about the GOTY names, you missed out Nicki!

  843. Lena on July 21st, 2009 6:34 am

Jess isn’t short for anything in the book, neither is Gwen.

  844. Lena on July 21st, 2009 6:42 am

I think the books give her full name as Jess Akiko McConnell.

  845. Bookworm on July 21st, 2009 7:33 am

Anne, Chrissa’s name is NOT a loser name. No offense. : )

  846. Lena on July 21st, 2009 7:57 am

Its called an opinion. People are allowed to have it.

I personally don’t like the name Chrissa, but unlike Lily said, I never said it was a loser name.

  847. Holly on July 21st, 2009 8:45 am

I’m not very fond of the name Chrissa. I have her, and I just call her Chrissi most of the time. I hope the next GOTY is of a different ethnic group, a unique pretty name, and doesn’t have all pink.
Maybe she could be part of a martial art. I’d love to be able to get her gi. :)

  848. Lena on July 21st, 2009 9:08 am

I want a real dobok. That’s what is worn at the olympics for tae kwon do. If i don’t get one, I’m making one out of my old doboks.

My Ivy will be a girl who does tae kwon do (excuse to get a dobok) from Korea (excuse to get a hanbok) who moved here and goes to a private school (excuse to mae a unioform).

  849. Anne on July 21st, 2009 9:42 am

Oh, right – I had a feeling that I was forgetting someone. Is Nikki short for Nicole? Or Nicolette? Regardless, I like the name and think it was good for her.

  850. Anne on July 21st, 2009 9:44 am

I agree with you, Holly. And Chrissi does sound prettier.

  851. Holly on July 21st, 2009 10:03 am

    Love the idea Lena!!!

  852. Lena on July 21st, 2009 10:23 am

Thanks Holly. Its a GOTY idea sort of, but since I want the next GOTY to be black, I’m making my Korean girl myself. But if this 2010 girl has a dobok or even a gi…. I’m stealing it.

And I haven’t decided on a name for my Korean girl, but I have a few ideas.

  853. Holly on July 21st, 2009 10:37 am

I wish for the next GOTY to be an African American also. (you should know that ;) )
I really hope for new, different stuff for this GOTY. I wouldn’t mind a best friend (WITH HER OWN STORY!!), but not two. I also want her to be from the south.

  854. Lena on July 21st, 2009 10:46 am

I’d love a black girl from FL. Hopefully, she’ll do some sort of martial art (tea kwon do’s the most popular here from what I see, but now AG she’ll do karate).

  855. Lena on July 21st, 2009 10:47 am

*knowing AG she’ll do karate* sorry for the typos.

  856. Holly on July 21st, 2009 10:52 am

I would love to see her with maybe shoulder length curly hair, and dark brown eyes. But I’d like her skin tone to be like Addy’s, not like #28.

  857. Holly on July 21st, 2009 10:53 am

    **#26.

    My bad… :)

  858. Lena on July 21st, 2009 10:58 am

Yes. Like the girl bitty twin’s hair, Addy’s coloring, her mold obviously, and Ivy and Sam’s decal eyes.

  859. Holly on July 21st, 2009 11:00 am

Exactly!!! I think she’d be really pretty!!

  860. Lena on July 21st, 2009 11:02 am

I would love her. Maybe even buy her.

  861. Holly on July 21st, 2009 11:07 am

I’d most definately buy her. lol IMO, I think AG is kinda using the same things over and over, and Mattel is trying to turn AG into Barbie.

  862. Lena on July 21st, 2009 11:19 am

Look at Elizabeth. That’s all the proof I need to see the Barbiezation of AG.

Not that I don’t like Barbie, but in recent years she’s been way too pink. I like classic doctor and austronout Barbie.

  863. Lily on July 21st, 2009 11:20 am

I think the platinum blond JLY dolls are the proof of the Barbiezation of AG. That sweetheart skirt too. It looks cheap, electric pink, and it has hearts.

  864. Lily on July 21st, 2009 11:25 am

I think I might be getting a Kirsten doll and several outfits from 1991 or 1992 for $90!

doll (good condition, missing socks, hair ribbon)
    accessories (?)
    birthday outfit (complete)
    school outfit (missing hair ribbons)
    school lunch (complete)
    school supplies (?)
    work dress (missing hair ribbons)
    work boots
    Samantha’s slippers

  865. Lena on July 21st, 2009 11:29 am

Notice that the platinum blondes all have blue eyes…. hmmmmm….

Even Julie, who is platinum blonde, was prototyped with blue eyes.

  866. Holly on July 21st, 2009 11:38 am

    Exactly my point.

  867. Lily on July 21st, 2009 11:40 am

Julie would’ve looked great with blue eyes, I think. But that would’ve been too stereotypical to have 3 platinum blonds with blue eyes.

Where did you hear that she was prototyped with blue eyes?

  868. Lena on July 21st, 2009 11:45 am

I have pictures of her in prototype clothes, but am not at liberty to share them.

Also, she looks a lot like the not!Elizabeth with blue eyes.

  869. Holly on July 21st, 2009 11:46 am

I’ve heard that she was meant to have blue eyes too. I think she would have looked good with hazel eyes myself.

  870. Lily on July 21st, 2009 11:49 am

Do you like her prototype clothes? How different is she from the one available for sale (and the one sitting in the box downstairs for me)?

I think atleast one of the platinum blond dolls should have gray eyes. One of my friends is a true platinum blond and her eyes are gray. Other people are the same way.

  871. Lily on July 21st, 2009 11:51 am

I can’t wait for my birthday! I’m excited to open Julie and Rebecca. For some reason, I can’t wait to touch their hair.

  872. Lena on July 21st, 2009 11:52 am

I like some prototype clothes better, but other not so much. I really can’t discuss what they look like though.

  873. Holly on July 21st, 2009 11:53 am

Some red heads have gray eyes too. ;) But I do have to agree, platinum hair and gray eyes would be pretty….

  874. Lily on July 21st, 2009 11:53 am

So are there several prototype outfits? Does she have more than one meet outfit prototype?

  875. Lily on July 21st, 2009 11:54 am

Yeah, Holly, that stinks that AG never made a JLY doll with red/auburn hair and gray eyes.

  876. Lily on July 21st, 2009 11:58 am

But AGT 17 is a good match for you, I think.

  877. Lena on July 21st, 2009 11:58 am

I have 3 pictures (all with blue eyes) of outfits that have not been made.

  878. Lily on July 21st, 2009 12:01 pm

That’s cool. Why won’t AG release them to the general public?

  879. Lena on July 21st, 2009 12:02 pm

    Because they don’t.

  880. Lily on July 21st, 2009 12:03 pm

    Figures.

  881. Lily on July 21st, 2009 12:03 pm

And I guess you got them through your cousin?

  882. Holly on July 21st, 2009 12:04 pm

#17 is good enough. My Helena, well, is the closest one to my mini-me.

  883. Lena on July 21st, 2009 12:04 pm

    Yes.

  884. Lily on July 21st, 2009 12:04 pm

My Twinn beats AG in the “just like me” race by a mile. I love my Lily doll.

  885. Lily on July 21st, 2009 12:06 pm

Yeah, Lily needs a new outfit. Maybe next month.

  886. Holly on July 21st, 2009 12:09 pm

I love my Becca too. She is so pretty!!!

  887. Sara on July 21st, 2009 12:25 pm

FYI~ I will not be on tomorrow – Fri. I will be gone w/ my youth group 4 our servant event!! I’m so excited!!!!!! I can’t wait!!!!!!!! Sry! I’m just really excited!!!

  888. Holly on July 21st, 2009 12:40 pm

Coolio Sara!!! Hope you have a blast!!!

  889. Lily on July 21st, 2009 12:59 pm

Holly, let us know when you get the photo of your Becca doll up on your website!

  890. Holly on July 21st, 2009 1:42 pm

Ok Lily. I will. She doesn’t look hardly like me now. ( I had dyed hair and highlights at that time)

  891. Lily on July 21st, 2009 1:47 pm

I guess that’s why your hair looks golden brown in one of the photos on your website/blog.

  892. Holly on July 21st, 2009 1:48 pm

Yea. I dye my hair a good bit. Right now its most definatley red though. :)

  893. Sara on July 21st, 2009 2:06 pm

I got tints of red in my hair. I get them from the sun. Anybody see the bloopers I posted?

  894. Holly on July 21st, 2009 4:47 pm

What color is your hair Sara??

  895. sunbeemz on July 21st, 2009 5:15 pm

Yay my birthday is in 8 days!

  896. sunbeemz on July 21st, 2009 5:18 pm

was anybody else’s birthday this month?

  897. Lily on July 21st, 2009 6:00 pm

My birthday is in two weeks. Then school starts. Whee.

  898. sunbeemz on July 21st, 2009 6:07 pm

I can’t wait to go to school again although its a whole different school.

  899. Aaryana on July 21st, 2009 6:39 pm

So, I ordered the retired edition of Molly’s Lunch on e-bay, and it is adorable!

  900. pioneerfan04 on July 21st, 2009 6:46 pm

aaryana, i’m going to add u as a friend on LJ, and my username is katie kenelly, my great-great-great-great-grandmother’s name. :)

  901. sallie on July 21st, 2009 6:53 pm

Hi everybody! I am back! We went on a long vacation to Maryland, for my cousin’s Bat Mitzah! I think that’s how you spell it!!
    Teee hhheee!
And I have bad news. I have to get surgery in a week!! YUCK! BLUCK!!
    I HHHHAAAAATTTTTEEEE SURGERY!
It makes me want to

  902. sallie on July 21st, 2009 6:55 pm

    pioneerfan!! hi!

  903. Aaryana on July 21st, 2009 7:08 pm

    Okay! I’ll add you back!

    Sallie,

Sorry to hear that you have to have surgery. What kind of surgery? If you don’t mind sharing, that is. I ask because I’m going to be a doctor soon. I might know what the recovery is like. :P Good luck! I hope it goes well for you.

  904. Lily on July 21st, 2009 7:10 pm

Hey, Sallie! I’m sorry you have to have surgery. It’s no fun to be in the hospital. I’ve had my fair share of stays with broken bones. I hope the surgery is fast and painless and that you recover quickly! By the way, how do you do the devil emoticon?

  905. Lily on July 21st, 2009 7:13 pm

Aaryana, I was about to ask Sallie the same question. Whenever someone on here mentions that they’re sick or need surgery, my curiousity is piqued. Of course, I don’t have a plethora of medical knowledge to share in return :)

  906. Aaryana on July 21st, 2009 7:27 pm

I just can’t help myself. It’s the doctor thing.

  907. Anne on July 21st, 2009 7:36 pm

Lily, I recall you asking what illness and mental health reasons that caused me to take 6 months off of skating. I was not avoiding your question, but it is a pretty long story. So in the very beginning of the year, I got what we thought was a case of the flu. 102 degree fever and all. Strangely, though, it went away in a few days. But then it came back, only worse. It was like the first illness, only with breathing and mucus problems. I was diagnosed with asthma at age 3 or 4 and, though it was never really severe, it has gotten better over the years, including no symptoms for over 2 years. So at first it didn’t feel like asthma, probably because I had forgotten what it felt like to have it. But there was constant mucus in my lungs, tightness in my chest, lots of coughing, and I couldn’t do something as simple as walking up the stairs without a great deal of difficulty. Over a few days it worsened, and my mom and I finally realized that something wasn’t right, so she took me to the pulminoligest (spelling?). He concluded that it may or may not have been asthma, but the treatment was the same regardless. I was to take one medicine every two hours and another one three times a day. At this time I was still otherwise ill, but not very much. I wasn’t eating at all, though, and lost 6 pounds. Soon after I began the medication, my illness ended and my appetite came back. Though I was still limited because my breathing still wasn’t so good, I was able to do some things and that was a relief. For a while after that I remained on medication for my breathing, but everything else was fine. At about that time, my mom got really sick and had what I had. She went to the doctor right away, and she was diagnosed with pneumonia. Since her symptoms were almost the same as mine, we concluded that I may have had pneumonia, too, and since I didn’t get antibiotics right away like she did, it just got worse and worse. Then, when everything, including my breathing, was back to normal (mid-April or so), I decided that I was burned out form skating 4 hours a day for so long and decided to take a little more time off. I got back on the ice in early June, and my health has been fine. My mom still has a nursing licensee, though she works as a psychotherapist and a medical counselor (she works for herself) now, so we are still stumped as to why we didn’t detect a problem earlier.

No, but my birthday was late last month.

  908. Anne on July 21st, 2009 7:43 pm

I hope that wasn’t too confusing!

pioneerfan, you mentioning your ancestors reminded me of the work my dad, uncle, and cousin are doing on my family history. I am very fascinated by it and am so glad that we are finally putting it all together. That 1/2 of my family is pretty interesting, and we have a really long family tree, documents, and photos all together in our computers and on ancestry.com. We have things from my dad’s mom’s mother’s parent’s wedding, which took place in 1886, which I think is pretty cool. We have a few really old photos. An early one I know of is that of my great-great-great grandparents.

As of now, I have nothing like that form my mom’s side. None of them seem to be interested in that sort of stuff, and my family members from that side of the family tend to die early of health problems. I hope we can put it together some day.

  909. Anne on July 21st, 2009 7:49 pm

My mom ordered my two new pairs of L.L. Bean Crocs and they came in the mail today. My mom got me my first pair for Valentine’s Day 2008 and since then, I have worn them EVERYWHERE! I can climb/play in the park in them, run in them, play kickball in them, and so much more! I have worn them do much that they are now completely molded to my feet…complete with a huge hole in the bottom of the left shoe! My two new pairs are magenta/rose colored (same as my first pair) and orange (because orange is my favorite color). I won’t throw my old pair out, though – too much sentimental value. Same reason why I can’t bring myself to send Sam to the hospital, even though her hair has been cut 1.5 inches or so.

  910. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 7:51 pm

My french teacher is really interested in stuff like that and he has this family tree thing with like 2000 people on it! it has all his wife’s family and his family and cousins and stuff. it’s really cool.
I know this is random, but my tongue really hurts!

  911. pioneerfan04 on July 21st, 2009 7:53 pm

anne that is so cool about your family history! unfortunately, my family history only goes back to 1811, and that document is the marriage certificate of my great-great-great-great-grandmother. we dont know how old she was then, because she was irish and the english burned all the birth certificates and such. know idea about anything else before 1811. not even her parents. that’s on my mother’s side, and on my father’s side, his family history only goes back to the 1860s, and nothing else before that. hi side of the family is a mystery. no one knows who my dad’s mother’s father was, so we don’t know anything about her either. it makes me mad sometimes when all my friends are talking about their family history and stuff, and then i have nothing to talk about except 1811 and the 1860s. but, i also kinda like how it’s a mystery and stuff. :)

  912. Anne on July 21st, 2009 7:54 pm

By the way…does anyone have the answer to my question I asked yesterday?

“Just a general question: if I were to sell my Samantha (which I’m NOT), how much of a price deduction could I expect being that her hair has been cut maybe an inch to an inch and a half (over-estimating to be on the safe side)? It’s not too noticeable when curly but it is when it is straight, and it is a fact. I don’t want to send her into the hospital. Anyone know?

She is otherwise in pretty good condition. Gently used. How much would be deducted and how much would it be if not for the haircut (same question, I know)?”

  913. Aaryana on July 21st, 2009 7:55 pm

    Your tongue hurts?

  914. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 7:57 pm

1811 is a very long time ago! I’ve never really looked into my family history. I know the names of all my grandparents parents, but that’s about it. If i looked into it, i might find out more.

  915. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:04 pm

yes my tongue is killing me!

  916. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:04 pm

My dad’s side goes back pretty far, but we don’t even know the dates that many of the people were born. I’m guessing it goes back to before the 1800’s. My dad showed it to me once and I’ll have to take another look at it to understand it. It might go back pretty far, since many on that side of the family waited until they were in their 30’s to start having children, which was very uncommon to the era.

Opposite for my mom’s side. The trend was married at 21 and kids at 24, until my mother, anyway.

But my maternal grandfather, who died when I was 2, was an orphan, so that cuts off that part of the tree. I only know that his mother died giving herself a self-abortion (which was a common cause of death during that time), that he was abused (emotionally, physically, and sexually) by the owners of the orphanage, that he grew up in Canada and is native to that country (I think), that he ran away from the orphanage when he was 16, and there is something about a sister of his that I can’t remember. Overall, he lived a very sad life and never got over the abuse he suffered as a child.

My brain hurts from just thinking of the family tree and all of the missing links!

  917. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:06 pm

My tongue was hurting yesterday, but that was because I sneezed and bit down on the edges really hard. Ouch. I hate when that happens!

  918. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:10 pm

I rekon! that would have really hurt! I think there is a cut on the bottom of my tongue, near the edge. It really hurts.

  919. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:13 pm

We took my dog out for a walk before, and we let him wander without his leash on. he was doing really well but then when we almost got home, he got into the lake. So then we had to come back and wash his les coz they were all dirty and gross.
Then my other dog rolled in some dead lizard in the garden so then we had to wash him! He stunk! He really hates being washed so it’s really hard to wash him. Plus, he bites you when you try to pick him up! so we picked him up with a towell.
    Anyway, they’re both clean now!

  920. pioneerfan04 on July 21st, 2009 8:14 pm

that must stink georgia!!!!!!!!!!! 1811 IS a long time ago, but not really compared to a bunch of other girls. some people have traced their family tree back to the 800s!!!!!

  921. pioneerfan04 on July 21st, 2009 8:15 pm

i mean it must stink that ur tongue hurts

  922. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:15 pm

Anne, I do not know the answer to your question about Samantha’s hair. Prices on eBay flucuate, so sometimes it’s hard to gauge prices, especially when you’re comparing the same doll in different condition.

Thank you for sharing your story, Anne. It wasn’t confusing at all. That must’ve been awful to have pnemonia without a diagnosis. I’m glad you’re feeling well enough to be back on the ice. I think Mia should’ve had some injury or health issue! In sports, injuries are a fact of life. In running, a lot of people get shin splints, and they hurt.

Georgia, I’m sorry your tongue hurts. I bite the edges of mine all the time. Sometimes I burn it on food that is too hot, which leaves your taste buds stunned.

  923. Lena on July 21st, 2009 8:15 pm

Since you’re talikng about family history, my great-great-great grandfather was nobility. He rose aginst the government, and was banished.

  924. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:17 pm

Ooh, tongue cuts. Those hurts. One time I swiped a piece of paper close to my nose, and the papercut gave me a nosebleed!

  925. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:18 pm

*Those hurt* . . . I’m not sure what happened to my grammar just then!

  926. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:18 pm

    “and wash his legs”* oops!

  927. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:20 pm

like a serious nosebleed lily? or just coz u cut ur nose?

  928. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:20 pm

That’s neat, Lena. I know very little about my family history. Neither side really cares. I do know that I have Irish blood on both sides, French on one, and Native American (Cherokee) on one. I don’t look Indian one bit, though!

  929. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:21 pm

maybe the cut is on the top….

  930. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:21 pm

I think I just cut my nose, but there was far more blood than your average papercut-on-the-hand.

  931. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:22 pm

most of my family comes from England

  932. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:22 pm

The cut was up my nostril, but I have no idea how far up.

  933. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:23 pm

    Wow that’s weird!

  934. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:25 pm

Well, I guess you’re bound to have a lot English ancestry since you live in Australia. Aboriginies are the exception to that, of course

  935. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:27 pm

Heaps of people in australia are from China and india. At my school, in my grade, there are 120 people and 12 of us are anglo-saxon Australian

  936. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:28 pm

Yeah, it was. The worst part was not being able to do anything but lay on the couch for months! The breathing was the worst part. I couldn’t even take a walk at a snail’s pace around the block! And the cold air would cause my lungs to close up even more, so no going outside, not even to sit down. Then there was the nausea and vomiting, fever, chills, headaches, aches and pains, stuffy/runny nose…and coughing up green mucus every two minutes. That was horrible!

I agree – an injury/health problem would have made Mia’s story more interesting.

I was prepared to not get an answer for the same reason you mentioned. Too bad.

I always burn my tongue on hot food because I am to impatient to wait for the food to cool down. I love food, which is good because my mom is a good cook. Although all of my grandparents and great-grandparents are dead, I have been told that they were excellent cooks, too, beck when they were alive and kicking. My maternal grandparents both died very early (68 and 72 or 74), my great-grandpa before I was born, and my great-grandma when I was in 6th grade. She was almost 94. I knew her because my mom’s side is the “young side” of my family.

  937. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:29 pm

Well, I probably need to go running in a few minutes. Ugh, official practice starts very soon. The beginning of a new school year is barreling toward me. I wish I was homeschooled!

  938. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:31 pm

My mum’s dad died when my mum was 2, but we know about his side of the family because his mother(my great-grandmother) lived to be 96 and died when i was about 7. she came from England (literally).

  939. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:31 pm

do your school years strat in the middle of the year?

  940. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:31 pm

Anne, I had grandparents die in their 50’s, 60’s, and 70’s. It looks like one will make it to 80, but she’s so sick it doesn’t even count.

  941. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:32 pm

I am Polish and Hungarian on dad’s side, and Italian, German, French-Canadian, and possibly Dutch on mom’s side. I am mostly Polish, though – by far. I only know 1 other person who is part Hungarian, and she is one of my best friends. Our family backgrounds and origins are very similar, though some of her family came here in the late 1700’s/early 1800’s and no one from my tree came here until the late 1800’s.

  942. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:33 pm

My best friend and i both have english ancestry.

  943. Holly on July 21st, 2009 8:33 pm

My family on my mom’s (my great-great-great grandmother)side immigrated from England in 1764. My great-great grandfather is from France.(On mom’s side also.)
My dads side is Irish and Cherokee.

I’m still trying to find out where I got my slanted eyes, though.

  944. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:34 pm

For me, school will start around August 24. A few years ago, it started around August 8 or 10. I think that the school year is too long. We missed probably 2 weeks total this past year due to a hurricane and an ice day and I didn’t even notice.

  945. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:34 pm

My only grandparent left is my maternal grandma, who turns 89 this year. She is in good health and we think, though anything can happen, that she should have another 5 good years of life left in her.

  946. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:35 pm

how many holidays do you have?

  947. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:35 pm

    as in school holidays

  948. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:36 pm

Oh, I nearly forgot! I have some Balkan (Eastern European) ancestors, according to a blood relative who took participated in some National Geographic genome project.

  949. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:39 pm

3 days off for Thanksgiving, about 2 weeks off for Christmas, 1 week for Spring Break, Memorial Day, MLK day (?), and no more than 3 other days.

Total, I think we have 174 total days of school. It might be a little higher (but no lower)

  950. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:39 pm

our school year starts late Jan. early feb. and then we have term one which goes for about 10 weeks, then 2 weeks of holidays, then term2 for 10 weeks then 2 weeks of holidays, then term3 and holidays then term 4 and then we have 5-6 weeks of Christmas holidays. we also have the occasional long weekend.

  951. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:40 pm

Case and point, I’d rather be in college. Three more years!

  952. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:41 pm

I guess the school year works a little bit differently for Aussies! Here in the states, we generally go from late August to early June.

  953. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:42 pm

i have 4 more years and one term till high school is over. thank goodness!

  954. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 8:43 pm

I can’t work out who gets the better deal! (with holidays)

  955. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:44 pm

Last year, when I was still in public school, we had a mini-tornado touch down in my town. Areas around us got hit badly, but we had the most damage. The scariest part was that the street/area with the worst damage was only two blocks away from my house! This was damage that I had never seen before. All (or most) roads, even the busier ones, were blocked off, tree limbs were everywhere, trees and big branches that fell on and crushed cars and sun rooms, chimneys snapped in half, sidewalk slabs pulled up at 45 degree angles, big trees uprooted from the ground…the list goes on, but you get the idea. Some streets were hit so badly that they didn’t even let people walk there! This was in the beginning of June. I remember walking around with my mom and brother, speechless at how much damage had been done. We only had 1 pretty big branch down in our yard. We were lucky. It took time, but everything was cleaned up and fixed. Everyone is still bummed at the amount of old, big trees we lost, but new ones were planted in their place and there are still plenty of them left. The schools were closed for three or 4 days, and my friend referred to those days (and still refer to them) as “wind days.” No one had expected this kind of weather – our area never had anything like that happen before.

  956. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:45 pm

So if you were an American, which grade would you be in? Do you have more than 4 years of high school? We have 6 years of elementary school, then two or three of junior high, then 4 or 5 of high school.

  957. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:45 pm

School was extended a few days but not many, since we get little snow these days and snow days always go unused. We had 1 pretty good snow when I was in second grade, but that’s all. We just get a light dusting.

  958. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:47 pm

I’ve always wanted to see a tornado. I’ve been through a hurricane. It wasn’t that much fun. We lost power for 5 days and it was very hot, humid, and miserable. Besides, the only part of a hurricane that you can “see” is the wind and rain outside.

  959. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:48 pm

    That’s really interesting, Georgia.

  960. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:50 pm

8th grade – start age 13, turn 14 during the year
9th grade – start age 14, turn 15 during the year

    This might help, Georgia ;)

  961. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:50 pm

Oh, power was out for a week or so in some parts of town. Luckily, it wasn’t too hot or humid, though I don’t know how they prevented their produce from going bad.

I missed it – I was in the shower (probably not the smartest thing). Ironically, my friend who lives in my town (her area was hit the worst) was in the shower then, too!

  962. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:51 pm

And to think, I could have watched it from my porch! I would have, but I had no idea how big it was. I thought it was just another storm.

  963. Anne on July 21st, 2009 8:55 pm

Holly (you are the one looking for a middle name for a JLY, right?), I like the combination Helena Fion a lot. That gets my vote. I love all of the suggestions for middle names, but I think that that one goes very nice with Helena. Just a suggestion!

  964. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:57 pm

I would’ve been disappointed too if I’d missed it. When I lived in Oklahoma years ago, we had a bunch of tornado scares and I got interested in them.

  965. Lily on July 21st, 2009 8:57 pm

I’m also sorry I didn’t add anything to my story. I was busy cleaning my room today and organizing some books I’m going to sell on eBay. I haven’t gotten to my closet yet! But a clean room comes first so you can mess it up again by throwing clothes and hangers everywhere when you’re trying on clothes to give away!

  973. Lily on July 21st, 2009 9:39 pm

I think we need a new post to comment on! This is the 971st comment on this article. Too bad the My Twinn dolls of mine don’t have any new handmade clothes to show off at the moment :)

  974. Anne on July 21st, 2009 10:18 pm

I left, too, to talk to my mom and dad.

    I think so, too!

Funny, I didn’t get around to that closet today, either.

A nightly run. That’s cool. Sometimes I go for a really long bike ride at 5 in the morning. It is cool to be practically the only one up and to have all of the streets to myself! Also, I used to skate at 5:30 in the morning, but that doesn’t really count.

In Australia, we have primary school (Kindergarten, yr1,yr2,yr3,yr4,yr5,yr6) and then high school (yr7,yr8,yr9,yr10,yr11,yr12).
If i lived in america i would probably be in either yr 7 or 8. I could be in either 7 or 8 here too, but i’m in yr 8.

  977. Lily on July 21st, 2009 10:29 pm

I think running might be fun for me during the school year if I wasn’t always under pressure to go faster and harder. Hitting certain times per mile is all it takes to kill the mood. And maniac coaches, but that’s another story.

  978. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 10:31 pm

we don’t really get tornadoes in NSW. they get some in Queensland and Northern territory but not down here!

  979. Lily on July 21st, 2009 10:31 pm

So you’re a couple of years younger than Anne and I. The two of us are about a month apart.

  980. Anne on July 21st, 2009 10:33 pm

So I guess the grades/years aren’t too different where you live, Georgia. Different, but not as different as I expected it to be, based on how different our school years are. :)

When my parents were in school, elementary was k-6, middle was 7-9, and high was 10-12. For me, it is k-5, 6-9, 9-12. I only tell you the “for me” because it is different is some places in the U.S.

  981. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 10:33 pm

Wow that’s cool, I’m thirteen but i could be mistaken as about 15 or 16.

  982. Lily on July 21st, 2009 10:34 pm

So what is the weather like where you live, Georiga? I know that the interior of Australia is mostly arid because of continentality, but not around cosstal cities like Perth and Sydney.

  983. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 10:34 pm

Yer some other states don’t have Kindergarten

  984. Lily on July 21st, 2009 10:34 pm

*Georgia* Sorry I mispelled your name! I was typing quickly.

  985. Anne on July 21st, 2009 10:36 pm

In skating (not elite level, just regular, human skating), the worst things are the rich, spoiled rink brats, obsessed skating moms (dads usually aren’t like this), and the pressure to be considered one of the best in the rink, but not necessarily in that order. By the way some of the moms act, you’d think the girls were going to be Olympic stars or something! It’s really annoying.

  986. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 10:36 pm

It gets to about 30, maybe more, in the summer. It normally sits at about 14 in Winter but it’s been a bit colder this year
and i just realised u don’t have the same degrees as us so u will think it’s much colder than it really is!

Yeah, I read your post quickly and thought “wow” before realizing that you measure temperature (and other things) differently.

I guess that can get pretty annoying. I think you see your spoiled brats in all of the agility sports like ice skating, dance, and gymnastics.

Georgia, I guess you’re talking about the climate in degrees centigrade. I was going to say, 30 degrees Fahrenheit in the summer is below freezing!

Yep. It’s weird how we measure things differently, but sometimes we stil measure things in feet and inches, and when we weigh babies when they are fist born, we use pounds, not kilos

  990. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 10:40 pm

for us, freezing is 0 degrees.

  991. Anne on July 21st, 2009 10:41 pm

Makes more sense for freezing to be zero degrees, doesn’t it?

  992. Lily on July 21st, 2009 10:42 pm

    Okay, I converted that

    winter: 57 degrees (F)
    summer: 86 degrees (F)

That’s pretty good weather, I think! Is is very humid?

  993. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 10:42 pm

    I think so!

  994. Georgia on July 21st, 2009 10:42 pm

It sometimes is humid but it’s not bad

  995. Anne on July 21st, 2009 10:43 pm

That’s cool, the bit about when babies are born. But we are the ones who measure differently.

  996. Anne on July 21st, 2009 10:44 pm

    Wow, that’s perfect!
