American Girl dolls are an investment! While they are designed for play, the more you know about caring for them, the better the investment will be. I haven’t looked closely on the American Girl website recently, but a reader, Karen E., pointed out to me that American Girl now has a whole section called Doll Care on their website devoted to the features of their dolls, doll care, hair styles for dolls, the doll hospital and such.
For example, in the doll skin care section they recommend cleaning your doll using water and baking soda:
- Dampen a soft washcloth with lukewarm water.
- Make a paste of baking soda and lukewarm water.
- Rub the vinyl gently in a circular motion with the paste.
- Wipe with a wet washcloth to remove residue, and rinse washcloth frequently with lukewarm water.
- Towel dry your doll.
If you are new to American Girl dolls or just want to learn more about how the dolls are made, how to take care of them and how to do some simple styles, go check it out. I think it is a great resource and am glad American Girl has added it to their site.
