American Girl Butterfly Twist Outfit

A few weeks ago we took advantage of the American Girl sale code that was available at the time and picked up a few items from their big sale and a few items from the current catalog.  Natalie had really wanted the Butterfly Twist outfit and had some pet sitting money left over so we went ahead and ordered it. The outfit consists of the short sleeved dress, boots, a headband and the ISU charm and is priced at $30 – not one of the best outfits for your money in my opinion, but she earned it so we ordered it.

Miss Nellie offered to model for us today. Believe it or not, this is probably the first time our Nellie has been in modern clothing since we got her. She is loving her new look!

The dress is made of simple heathered purple jersey knit and has a butterfly on the upper corner of the chest. The neckline and twist aspect are interesting and do add to the design.

Here is a closer look at the tied overlay on the skirt. It is a cute detail that adds interest. The American Girl logo is sewn on the bottom edge of the skirt.

The purple boots are pretty much the same boots as they had with the I Like Your Style outfit introduced in 2006 and used for the Meet Outfit for a few years – the only difference is the color.

I really wish American Girl would have added one more piece to this outfit – like a jacket or a purse – something to make it feel a little more worth $30. In this photo I have pulled out my favorite jacket from AG, the white denim jacket from the 2005 Licorice’s Best Friend outfit. Licorice’s Best Friend outfit came with a pink dress, pink sandals, a super cute purse and the very versatile white jacket for $24 – even with a price increase, that would be a better value than the Butterfly Twist Outfit is now. You can get the white jacket again now as part of the True Spirit Set ($28).

This is a great everyday outfit for your 18″ dolls, but I would recommend waiting until AG puts it in a weekly sale or there is a sale code if you are wanting to get your best value.

Something tells me Nellie is not going to want to go back into her meet dress anytime soon!

  2. Delaney says:

    Cute!

  3. Maddie says:

I have Nellie. Yours has bigger bangs and yours the hair flips in. Mine her hair flips out and she has skimpy thin bangs. I hate them. She has only been in her meet dress in terms of historical clothing.

  4. Delaney says:

It’s not my favorite, I like the weekend fun the best, but It’s still cute.

  5. Maddie says:

    @PrettyIrishAG that’s a great idea!! I love sewing.

  6. Delaney says:

Maddie, My doll Riley has thin bangs too! I don’t like them. I like the thick ones better.

Wow, your Nellie really does have thick bangs! I didn’t realize they varied so much.

  20. Char says:

Thanks! I got our Nellie right after they announced Samantha’s retirement. She and Samantha have been used more as display dolls than play dolls.
