When we were at the American Girl store for the BeForever launch, I had given myself a challenge – you can only buy ONE outfit today (Natalie buying Rebecca didn’t count – that was her money she had saved all summer). I considered Kit’s new meet dress, Rebecca’s new holiday dress, Samantha’s Frilly Frock and even Isabelle’s new Sparkle dress, but once I saw Julie’s new Holiday dress up close and personal, there was no question which outfit I was getting that day! Let’s take a look.
Julie’s Holiday outfit includes a pink/purple paisley brocade dress with sheer sleeves and velvet ribbon trim. The tights are a white lace pattern and her shoes are a cross over, double buckle patent leather Mary Jane. It also comes with a matching velvet headband. The cost of the outfit is $34 from American Girl.
The brocade fabric is a lot like the material they used for Caroline’s purple holiday dress too – it is thick, almost like a tapestry. I wish AG would have used snaps instead of velcro on this outfit – not only will the brocade snag easily, but so will the sleeves, so be extra careful when dressing and undressing your doll and be sure the velcro is sealed together when storing the dress.
The velvet headband looks beautiful in Julie’s long blonde hair. I tried the headband on Ivy and did not like it at all.
Take a look at the sheer sleeves. Not only are they sheer, but I love the detail of the ribbon mid way up the arm.
A closer look at the velvet bow and the purples and pinks in the brocade fabric.
Julie’s shoes are cute but nothing special really. They do have a cross over double buckle and patent leather was a good choice, but they definitely don’t steal the show.
Take a look at Julie’s leg – it looks like a bit of extra thread from the production of her tights got left on – I am going to have to see if I can carefully trim that without ruining the tights. It is on the inside and not too noticeable unless you know to look for it.
Ivy wanted to try the dress on, too. Like I said before, the headband just didn’t lay right with Ivy’s short, straight hair.
The pinks and purples look beautiful with Ivy’s coloring as well.
This is one of my favorite Julie photos yet so of course, I just had to share it with you!
The backdrop is from My Doll’s Life and its is the backside of their new beach play scene ($16.95) – I just love using if for photos because you don’t see as many shadows when you are dealing with difficult lighting and the colors seem to compliment just about any doll.
What do you think of this dress?
PS – While I gave myself a one outfit rule for that day, it doesn’t mean I didn’t order something else the next day!! LOL. I have three more outfits on the way and I will share photos of them with you next week.
